  1. Correct me if I am wrong but this is what I show. Evansville comes out on top. New Castle got some great matchups with Fort Wayne that closed the gap.

  2. All of the tickets for Saturday should have been allotted to the wrestlers - there are 112 of them left so if you give 20 tickets each then that is 2240 seats filled I'd love to see Banker's Life packed with family - not fans (I am a fan, but will happily watch from home) People scalping extra tickets for a profit - completely wrong. This is not the wrestling community These kids get sometimes only one chance to be on the big stage - should have let them give the tickets to friends and families and let them come along for the ride I'm sure one or two schools got the jump on everyone else - way to go! Sure, some long time wrestling fans will be sure to not break their streak of watching the championships - way to go! Just know that you are denying family the opportunity to see their son or grandson wrestle

    Morning Session

I went to the first session. Now i am here at the second. Crazy observation... and don't take this the wrong way. The parents were smaller this morning!

I’m sure he was a little of both. The kid recovered from a head injury and got cleared by medical professionals in a week. That means he most likely took extra caution with his body, most likely couldn’t practice, found a way to make weight, and beat a really good semistate champ. Congratulations to the champ. I will be rooting for him all weekend (regardless of how he looks to others). Great win kid. Keep it up!

  6. Quite a different feeling than usual for state. Not having the parade, barely any fans. Pretty quiet atmosphere. A couple big negatives. First having the wrestlers and coaches staged in the hallway at the top level, luckily they let them come out and watch In some seats. Waiting for a weight class to end before starting the next one. I understand minoring the amount of people on the floor, but there is still plenty of room and they could keep the flow of action continuous. Finally. They could fit so many more people!! Half of the top level didn't have starting open, plus the mid level on the end that they never have open could be used. They also were leaving two empty rows at the top of the mid level. I know I shouldn't be complaining. I am truly happy we are having the event. I just feel like they could reevaluate after this session to improve this evening and tomorrow.

    Friday Upsets

Awesome job by Mike and the rankers. Even with all of the craziness this year, there were only 14 (plus one unranked vs unranked) rankings upsets. 9 over 5 20 over 14 15 over 9 5 over 4 25 over 14 10 over 9 18 over 11 12 over 4 UR over 14 UR over 8 12 over 9 15 over 9 10 over 4 Ironically, all 3 unranked place winners are at 182!

  20. He uses his length very well on his TD D and that uncanny leverage he has with his body type assists him in those 50/50 poositions very well.. Especially if he gets in a switch scenario or is defending a crack down On a hi c, he is so long that he can do what many can't and Scoot and get the corner.. Much like Parkinson would do if you got in deep on a hi c and tried cracking him down and finishing on the mat didn't usually end well because he's blocking your arm off from changing off to a Double while he's utilizeing his length angling himself into position to get the corner aka score off his TD D .. It's much harder IMHO to finish TDs on the mat when the strong and long guys that have great TD D can create funky scrambles down on the Mat, usually it's much more likely to finish the TD if you can get the corner (I prefer lifting them to control them better) while changing off to your double (always coach my Wrestlers that you always turn your Singles into doubles on Offense and Doubles to singles when your defending TDs) and finish the Takedown up on the feet negating a lot of their adv they'd have if you try and do otherwise. That's why ppl have can't hardly finish on Eierman or Yianni, they create Hysteria on the mat and will almost give you a single to draw you into a scramble they are comfortable in and most of their opponents aren't...

  32. The school thing is weird and no rhyme or reason why they do the things they do as far as absorbing records or splitting them. I just go by how the IHSAA designates it for record purposes. For instance if you look at records for Bloomington South they also include the former Bloomington high school and the old Elkhart's records were merged with Elkhart Central. However, Franklin Township is considered a different school than Franklin Central for what reason I have no clue.

  44. Man considering Mitch Robb had 4 or 5 matches against me(Pinnick) and Hunter Hughes id love to hear his take on this considering he is a State Champion. I had a few matches against state champs or runner ups in high school that just shows outside of 1 year I had the worsr ticket round draws in semi state history probably lol. I'll try to remember to the best of my knowledge. Freshman year. - lost 8-6 in ticket round to top ranked and state champ or runner up Brian Smiley.(hit him with a lay drop but only kept 1 foot in bounds. I have the tape still that shows 1 foot only lol) I also Beat Derek Black that year and i believe he was a placer) Sophomore- I lost to state champ or runner up David Combs 2-1. I pinned Matt orchell in the regional finals and I choked in ticket round against Breedlove. I couldn't stop 1 move. Finished 38-3 i believe. Junior year- I beat 4th place finisher Demetrian Cole and 3rd or 4th place finisher Bubby Chambers and 4th place finisher Derek Black. I drew Derek Black first round of regional and won. Then beat Cole in finals just to draw defending champ or runner up Travis Beech in the ticket round and lose 8-6. Senior- Beat State Champ(and good friend) Mitch Robb 12-4 at Jeff Classic finals and got hurt anf came back at sectional and lost to Mitch Robb 5-3 giving up 2 caution points lol. Then i lost again to Mitch Robb in finals of regional i believe 6-3 and reinjured my shoulder and drew state champ or 2 time Greg Schaefer in the ticket round of Semi State.. So bottom line is a little bit of bad luck and some choking equals no state for Joe Pinnick lol.

  46. Ferguson jumped out to a big lead and dominated the 1st 2 periods, leading 13-2. Ferguson ran out of gas and Reitz made a mad comeback, but it wasn't enough. Ferguson, who had been out most of the year, won 17-13 over the reigning State Champ (106). It was a helluva match and would definitely be on my list of favs. Off the top of my head, I would add.... - 2015 182 lb Semifinal match with Frosh Mason Parris losing a 11-10 decision to Undefeated Senior Chase Osborn. IMO, if that match lasted :20 more, Parris wins. - 2015 138 lb Semifinal match between Joe Lee and Brandon James - Lee winning by fall - 2017 285 lb 3rd/4th match Robert Samuels 12-11 over Rickie Clark. One of the most exciting 285 lb matches ever! - 2017 Quarterfinal and Semifinal matches with Kyle Luigs. In the QF, Luigs beat Jeremiah Reitz 6-4 SV1 and lost 6-4 in the Semi to Breyden Bailey. Both matches came down to the end had close calls that could have gone either way. - 2018 Quarterfinal at 113 - Blake Boarman wins 8-6 SV1 over Brayden Lowery. Boarman, wrestling with a bum knee hurt in the SS Final, gutted out a tough, tough match. Both would become State Champs in 2020.
