  2. Should I say class wrestling now and get booed out of the room? Or should I start toward the door and say it on my way out?

  5. Bradbury Portage vs Birge Frankfort Birge was the returning state Champ, Bradbury was going to War with Alex Ramos every week. Bradbury lost to Ramos beat him for a regional title, setting up the match. Bradbury got the W, then went on to continue his rivalry to Ramos losing to him Under the lights.

  7. Schuyler Phillips (Yorktown) and Forrest Glogouski (Fairfield) was a rough one both were ranked top 5 I believe and Phillips lost to LJ Mosier of South Adam’s in regional finals. I believe they also wrestled in the round to go to nationals at D2 regionals as well.

  8. 3 vs 8 is a tough one but not horrible. I think Watson would be a clear favorite. I would say Conway vs Rust would be a much closer match and a worse draw.

  10. I'd guess the cost would outweigh the possible ticket sales, even with whatever fans they could allow now. That said, I wouldn't mind watching from one of the Ford Center suites.

  12. I agree completely about both the 106's and Tristen Hood. These are some hammers that could cause some interesting matches. I think 7 from Logan is where I'm landing.

  13. Mike, Im counting 8 from Logansport in your picks. That would be a windfall year for Logansport. Whats going on here? Is the Cold air or are those steel mills in the Region emitting that clean air. Id really be surprised with 8. 6 is real, 7 would be good. If they get 8, @Region Rat would have that "Whats happening to the neighborhood" look and would blame the refs or covid. But i can see from your perspective, the rankings are much more difficult thie year with less certainty because most of the Lafayette area (everybody else) cancelled a big chunk of their schedules this year, especially the big tournaments like the Tom Cameron and Harvest Connersville, Etc. I think you're mostly right, but the 106 little guy Logansport kids are solid with Siburcrist and Stall creating problems for Cruz and Bennett. I could see one of these guys getting through and at least provide some ticket round drama.

  14. Cause Fort Wayne has more small schools. There’s no Warren Centrals or Merrillville up here. And there’s no big wrestling private/parochial schools like a Cathedral or Mater Dei. The Fort Wayne semi state has been held up by mostly smaller schools, outside of Carroll. Doesn’t help that Yorktown has fallen off, and even they are 2A. And while RTCs like the one at Indiana Tech are trying to get a foothold, there’s nothing in the area like a Red Cobra, CIA, Mauer Coughlin, or RWA.

  16. East Chicago has 68 state ranked wrestlers. Fort Wayne has 71 state ranked wrestlers. New Castle has 88 state ranked wrestlers. Jasper has 103 state ranked wrestlers. --however-- East Chicago has 27 wrestlers ranked in the top 8. Fort Wayne has 12 wrestlers ranked in the top 8. New Castle has 29 wrestlers ranked in the top 8. Jasper has 37 wrestlers ranked in the top 8. --HOWEVER-- East Chicago has 5 #1 ranked wrestlers. Fort Wayne has 1 #1 ranked wrestler. New Castle has 5 #1 ranked wrestlers. Jasper has 3 #1 ranked wrestlers. These numbers probably aren't exact but I think it gives accurate enough to start forming an argument on which semi-state is the toughest, it really all depends on how you judge the toughness of a semi-state. If you go purely by ranked wrestlers, there could be a semi-state with a lot of lower ranked wrestlers, but more overall than a semi-state with less ranked wrestlers but more quality wrestlers. And of course, if you go strictly by the amount of champs that a semi-state produces, there's an argument to be made there too.

  17. Congratulations to the 258 Freshmen and Sophomores who qualified for their IHSAA Semi-States ... of the 896 Semi-State spots. Good luck on Saturday at your respective IHSAA Semi-States. They have been imported into the Indiana Frosh-Soph State Championship with a "3" Separation Criteria (similar to seed). These wrestlers are not permitted in the North or South Frosh-Soph Qualifiers. Advancement to the Semi-State Quarter-Finals changes the Separation Criteria to "2", and State Qualifiers become a "1". Congrats in advance to any IHSAA State Place-winners ... they will be removed from the Frosh-Soph event. Good luck to all.

  22. Matt Jaggers, New Castle vs Russel Smiley, Warren Central. Both returning SQ, Smiley had placed and was a returning SS champ. FCfighter might correct me but I believe Smiley was up 2-1 and jaggers hit a reversal or TD plus 2 NF and won 5-2, went on to win SS and take 5th.

  23. Somewhat biased but Jacob Simone last year (2020) vs Zeke Seltzer. One of Jake’s 3 losses (non inj forfeit) on the year was a 2-1 OT loss to eventual state runner up Carson Eldred the week prior for the championship at regionals. Anytime you’re drawing into a nationally ranked kid is brutal.

I don't know about the rest of you but this year seems to be about the toughest one to pick.

  33. The denial point is true but understandable. You've still got a good amount of high-end star power to distract from the extreme drop-off in depth. Also, the drop-off has happened rather rapidly in the last 5 or 6 years, so owning the "little brother" role probably hasn't fully happened yet for a semi-state that was so loaded in the 2000s and early 2010s.

It would be cool if you got an overall win this year. You, @BrokenTowelRack, and myself would all have 3 overall titles. I'm of the TB12 mindset....semi state and state wins are cool but unless it's an overall win, its a disappointing year of pickems.

Come on @X_R A T E D I gotta hold it down for EC semi state, these Region Rats keep me on my Toes. Only The top 1 % can stomach the pressure of doing all semi states and state. I have to make a strong run at overall this year. I am chasing @BrokenTowelRackfor that 7x

Nothing matters but overall wins. I'd take never winning semi states or state but winning overall every chance I could get. Especially since you have won twice overall already.... I know anything but an overall win is a disappointment for you

  43. 103...out of a possible 224.... So almost 50% of the time you are getting a ranked wrestler. I think this by far makes it the harder tournament. Yes kids ranked #1 will have an easy road (or should) and they make it hard on everyone around them... but if every kid you wrestle is ranked... thats like being at state already. Mooresville regional is what kills it. Having so many studs forces people that would normally win regionals to take 2nd or 3rd and set up death draws

  44. @devildog47959 would have had a least 10 guys coming through the Logansport Regional. I miss the good ole days when the Logansport regional at least had a strong presence on Indianamat. But 4 seems like a low number. Ill add Its harder to predict this year with so fewer big matchups due to Covid schedule curtailments Logansport averages 6 or 7 traditionally., Is this year different?

    Semi-State death draws

Hayden Watson has not had a lot of luck with the Semi-State Ticket Round. In his freshman year, he lost 2-1 to Gavinn Alstott, Last year he cruised on to finished 3rd at State. This year it appears he'll face MD's Ashton Hayhurst. While he'll be favored to win, it's not a pretty draw for either. You can easily argue that Chris Newman got a better draw losing in last week to Hayhurst. Looking forward to seeing that matchup and I expect to see a ton of action!
