Concur. Along those lines, and this only works if there's just a couple of you.. 1. wear a neutral color shirt..gray/white/black..most teams have a variation of those colors somehow. 2. Know at least one name from about 6 of the larger teams that are the ones usually hoarding the seats..you know who they are! 3. Just tell the nice lady/man with bed sheets/coats/tape that you are Jason Tsirtsis (random name to protect the innocent but use the name from #2 above of whichever team section your in) aunt/uncle and drove to watch him and just need a couple seats. 4. The mean seat lady/man will then become super nice, welcome you with open arms, ask about insert name from team section here and you plant your arse in their section. 5. Upon wrestling commencement, shed your neutral color shirt..throw on your loud and proud #PainTrain, Jimtown new State 2018 shirt. 6. Stand up and start the #PainTrain, Jimtown chant or my fave..Unleash the Giant saying!! 7. Duck from flying debris. Just a tip from your UncleJimmy.4 points -

Sprinting to get seats
base and 2 others reacted to bbulldog152 for a topic
The sad part is there are fans that wait in lines for hours just like others and get to the seats to find 2-3 people in front of them saving seats for 15+ people who's probably aren't even in Indy yet. There for people that got in line before 4 have to sit in none preferred seats while preferred seats go empty until the parade of champions sometimes later. This is the problem most people are speaking over. I agree with you the ones that get there early should get the best seats but thats not happening when people save seats for those that don't plan on getting there early. Now I've seen some workers try to put a stop to it until someone points out that it's going on in other sections so the worker gives in. I love going to state, this will be my 16th straight year going, but this always seems to bring down the experience.3 points -

My predictions 1. More people will be disappointed in their shaved ice than ever before 2. There will be a group of fans from Northwest Indiana that will refuse to do the wave 3. Complaints over security preventing seat saving will rise 50% 4. Refs will be booed three times 5. The semi-finals will have four overtime matches3 points

I see both sides but at the same time teams should set together. Kinda odd 3 people setting in a sea of Portage if your kid is wrestling a portage kid. (nothing against Portage just the 1st name that came to mind and i have never had any issue with them. good people) Would be nice to have teams sectioned off and a lottery for the seats but doubt any schools knows how many people will come from that school and how many would be saved for them leaving a lot of blank seats and putting good seats to waste. With that said If you do try to save seats try to use reason. Get an idea before heading how many are coming and only save those as needed or maybe just your family in the same area don't do 10 rows or something dumb. Also if you do see people saving a seat just talk to them most people are willing to work with you. There could be a good reason as to why they might be saving a seat. I for one saved one last year for my Father he had back issue and i did not want him getting hurt in the crowed getting in, so he hung back. I got the seat and he came once it settled down.2 points

I think what makes this year stand out so much is that all of these wrestlers accomplishments have already happened. In some prior years, you can say there were so many total state champs, but that would come later in their careers. 126 this year already has 3 state titles, as well as more runnerups, semifinalists and other accolades.2 points

And if you are the best out of a couple hundred people... your the Olympic champ.. you get gold!!?? While millions wrestle around the world. If you win... you are the best out of millions!!!! And they want to do away with wrestling??? Smh... don’t get it! Crazy1 point -

Maybe some common sense can prevail and people just be reasonable when saving seats. 1-2 per person in the section, anything more than that is unacceptable and if that group is not allowing you to sit down, I would advise notifying an usher. I enjoy reading the posts in which they remove the tape or sheets that are saving seats. I have never personally had an issue, but I think one of these years I am just gonna go around and purposely sit in "saved" seats!1 point -

Great job as usual! If you're gonna listen on the archive OTR is on about 32 minute mark. Loved the Faulkens quote OTR pulled out of the Finals "being like one big dysfunctional family reunion" at the Bank due to all these kids knowing/wrestling each other year round and in offseason and parents thus getting to know one another. Hate each other on the mat as rivals, but brothers/families off. Good on Dudelow for knowing his stuff and taking interest.1 point -

I know we make light of the situation cause there is not much that can be done with general admission seating - however I have personally witnessed families/mom in tears because of this situation and not being able to get a "good seat" to watch her son wrestle....sometimes in his last match. That's an issue that needs to be addressed, immediately , rather than cast aside. Quit trying to save 3 rows of seats in a section.1 point -
Don't forget Moran. My final prediction after looking more in-depth 1 - Brownsburg (and I don't think it will be close. Potentially 4 in the finals-Mills, Mulkey, Lee, Walton) 2 - Portage (3 potentially in the finals-Moran, Rumph, McIntosh) 3 - Cathedral 4 - Columbus East 5 - Perry Meridian (3 potentially in the finals-Fair, Warren, Cottey)1 point

I agree... State is so much fun when a whole section is cheering together. I wonder if IHSAA or Bankers Life could designate 1 or 2 sections in the lower level as "No Seat Saving" sections. Maybe the corner sections that can see all the mats but aren't the best seats. Most big groups would obviously avoid these sections since they can't save and give family, friends or small schools a chance to get a good seat. Of course it would be first come first serve but could open up seats without that much extra work.1 point

I think the team title comes from one of these teams. This is just one guy's opinion and teams are listed alphabetically. Brownsburg (7 qualifiers) - All seven of their qualifiers should score points. If everything goes their way, I can see champs at 106, 126, 138, 152 and 182 and they run away with the team title. Cathedral (10 qualifiers) - Cathedral has the numbers and quality. They are the pre-tournament favorite for the team title. They'll enter contenders at 106, 120, 132, 138, 145 and 285. I look for 7-8 of their guys to get to Saturday. Interestingly, I don't know if they'll walk away with any individual champions or walk away with multiples. Their depth and quality likely wins out, barring some team winning 4-5 weights or some unexpected results Friday night. Chesterton (6 qualifiers) - Another team that has the potential for four champs: 160, 182, 195, 285. They'll need bonus points from those four, plus some surprise points from their other two qualifiers (which requires topping a SS champ and a once-beaten wrestler Friday night) AND some Friday night upsets in the lower weights. This is my long-shot team title contender. They have a ton of quality, but less quantity. Columbus East (8 qualifiers) - Columbus East has the potential for four champs: 126, 132, 138, 160. If you win four individual titles, you're in the hunt. Chances are they won't win all four of those weights, so their team title hopes rest on the four additional qualifiers (who have tough draws). Portage (9 qualifiers) - Several point scorers in this group. If everything goes their way, they could put five in the finals. They have some tricky draws, but this is a top five team with the potential for more.1 point -

Maybe the Banker's Life ushers should crack down on seat saving. If you see a big blanket taking up multiple seats - tell them to take it down. The people who get there early and wait in line absolutely have a right to their seat - but not seats for 15 of their friends.1 point -
Article: #WrestlingWednesday: Hadley is first from Lapel to wrestle at state
DrSugarBritches reacted to Y2CJ41 for a topic
By JEREMY HINES thehines7@gmail.com In middle school Harrison Hadley weighed 60 pounds but had to wrestle in the 75 pound weight class because that was the smallest class available. Today, he’s the big man on campus at Lapel High School. Hadley, a junior 106-pounder for the Bulldogs, became the school’s first wrestler to ever reach the state finals when he defeated South Dearborn’s Eli Otto 13-5 in the ticket round of the New Castle semistate. “I definitely feel like I’m the big man on campus right now,” Hadley said. “The elementary school made this big banner for me and everyone signed it. People are going up to me in the halls and around town telling me congratulations and wishing me luck. The school recognized me for advancing. It’s pretty cool right now.” Lapel has been a school since before the 1870s. At first Lapel was a one-room school house, but over time the location has changed and school buildings have come and gone. The school’s history is one of the oldest in the state. To be the very first athlete to accomplish going to state is something first-year coach Jake Stilwell doesn’t believe has fully sunk in for Hadley yet. “This is huge for Lapel wrestling,” Stilwell said. “There have only been five semistate qualifiers in school history. For our program, this is absolutely huge. The younger kids see that state isn’t something impossible now. They see it can be done. “It’s never occurred here before and most people didn’t think it could happen. Now they see Harrison has done it, and it gives them hope. I don’t even know if Harrison has grasped what has happened. It will take a little time for this to all settle in.” After Hadley won the ticket-round match he immediately wanted to watch film on the match to see what he could have done differently. That’s what he does every match, win or lose. “I like to see what type of positions I exposed myself to,” Hadley said. “I look at how I could have improved. I look for things that will take me to the next level. I always critique myself, even if I tech fall or pin a kid.” Stilwell wanted Hadley to take a moment to take in the importance of what he had accomplished at semistate. “He was very excited when he won,” Stilwell said. “But when he came off the mat he likes to dive right into what just happened and look for ways to improve. We had to stop him and remind him about what he just accomplished. He was excited, but wasn’t showing that emotion. He was still just trying to think of what he could have done differently.” According to Harrison, the person most excited after the ticket round was his mom, Sonya. “She was crying and everything,” Hadley said. “She was telling me how proud she was of me. I’ve never really seen her like that. It was a great moment.” Hadley enters the state tournament with a record of 39 wins and only three losses. Two of those losses came last week at semistate. Hadley fell to Perry Meridian’s Alex Cottey in the semifinal round, then lost to Warren Central’s David Pierson in the consolation match. Hadley, who likes to race 600cc mini sprint cars in his free time, has wrestled 106 pounds his entire high school career. As a freshman he came into the season weighing just 99 pounds. He’s put on about five pounds per year, but is easily able to get down to weight for the wrestling season. Hadley is hoping his victory could help the team. He says it’s great to go to state, but it would be much sweeter going there with teammates also competing. “I see some schools take nine or 10 guys to state,” Hadley said. “I think that would be awesome. Just seeing Cathedral’s team and how well they did at semistate and the bond those guys have, it’s fun to watch. “Our program has struggled. We have never been that strong. But, if we can start advancing more kids it will really help build things up.” Last year Lapel had just eight wrestlers. This year there are 17 on the Bulldog roster. “Lapel is a school that has some good athletes,” Stilwell said. “The challenge is to get those kids to go out for wrestling. I really think Harrison’s success is going to help with that.” Hadley will take on Brownsburg freshman Kysen Montgomery (38-7) in the Friday night match. “For me, wrestling is an escape from everything,” Hadley said. “It’s something that helps me focus on my goals. It helps me in life situations and helps build my character. Right now my major goal is to be able to wrestle in college.” View full article1 point -
