  1. ****This article is the hard work of a central Indiana coach who would prefer not to reveal his or her identity It might be one of the toughest overall Semi State’s I have ever seen with an average of nearly 6 ranked wrestlers in every weight class. In almost every quarter-bracket a State ranked or Semi State ranked opponent will be having their seasons ended prematurely. Further, the IHSAA Team Title very well may come down to the first two rounds of the New Castle Semi State with 7 potential matchups between Cathedral and Warren Central. The semistate also features the highest nationally ranked wrestler in Indiana in Silas Allred of Shenandoah. 106 State Ranked Wrestlers #1 Alex Cottey PM #4 Suhas Chundi Carmel #7 Carleton Perry WC #9 Elijah Anthony Frankfort #10 Logan Carrender LN #15 Kody Glithero Roncalli #18 Sam Crousore HSE Semi-State Ranked Wrestlers #7 Evan Dickey Cathedral #8 Isaiah Otto South Dearborn Potential Matchups #9 Elijah Anthony vs #8ss Isaiah Otto First Round with #10 Logan Carrender looming in the ticket round. Anthony entered his freshman campaign undefeated going into sectionals losing to #4 Chundi twice headed into Semi state. Carrender is red hot after winning the Pendleton Regional. #7 Carleton Perry vs #7ss Evan Dickey Cathedral first round with #18 Sam Crousore looking to be the first 4 over 1 of the tournament. Perry pinned Dickey earlier in the year, but Cathedral is known for stepping up their game come tournament time. Will Dickey be 2019 Andrew Wilson/Elliot Rodgers? He is one of the smaller 106s I've seen in a long time, but his technique is picture perfect. #4 Suhas Chundi versus #15 Kody Glithero in the ticket round. Chundi has a 5-2 win earlier in the season but Roncalli is riding high after 6 champs at the brutal Perry Meridian Regional. At least 3 ranked guys going home early here. #1 Cottey vs winner of #9 Anthony/#10 Carrender Semis #4 Chundi vs #7 Perry semis 1st Round Picks Cottey over Flowers Condo over Pritchett Carrender over Bullock Anthony over Otto Crousore over Necessary Perry over Dickey Chundi over Busch Glithero over Williams Tickets Punched in Order Cottey, Chundi, Perry, Carrender Alpha Dog Alex Cottey 113 State Ranked Wrestlers #2 Zeke Seltzer Cathedral #3 David Pierson WC #14 Jake Simone HSE #15 Christian White New Pal #18 Antonio Jefferson LC Semi-State Ranked Wrestlers #5 Andrew Haggerty PM #6 Anthony Hughes LN #8 Brac Hooper Carmel Potential Matchups #15 Christian White vs #8ss Brac Hooper followed by potentially our second 4 over 1 with #6ss Hughes. White has the experience and the name to get through this quarter bracket, but don’t expect Hooper or Hughes to lay down for him. #3 David Pierson vs #18 Antonio Jefferson. A rematch from the Marion County finals in the ticket round. It was a very tight match until the third period when Pierson got on top and secured the win. #3 Pierson vs #14 Simone semi-finals in a rematch of the 2018 ticket round. 1st Round Picks Seltzer over Ramsey Haggerty over Driver Hughes over Gordon White over Hooper Simone over Wilson Johnson over Galusha Pierson over Bautista Jefferson over Seal Tickets Punched in Order Seltzer, Pierson, Simone, White Alpha Dogs Zeke Seltzer and David Pierson 120 State Ranked Wrestlers #4 Breyden Lowery Roncalli #5 Carson Eldred Westfield #10 Chris Stewart WC Semi-State Ranked Wrestlers #4 Harrison Hadley Lapel #5 Carson Johnson Mount Vernon #6 Traye Owens New Castle #7 Parker Mosley NM #8 Logan Galbraith NC Potential Matchups #4ss Hadley vs #6ss Owens first round. A battle of seniors including Hadley trying to return to state for the second year. The winner of this matchup gets to do battle with #10 Chris Stewart in the ticket round. Hadley did what he needed to advance at the Pendleton regional, but he'll need to bring his A game to get to the Ticket round this year. #8ss Galbraith, #7ss Moseley and Nick Morton will all bang it out to try and earn a spot at Bankers Life. These kids could wrestle 10 different times with a different winner each time. #4 Lowery vs #5 Eldred Semis. This one should be a battle between two highly decorated grapplers. 1st Round Picks Eldred over Donlan Dennison over Otto Lowery over Parodi Johnson over Condo Owens over Hadley Stewart over Gunn Galbraith over Euson Moseley over Morton Tickets Punched in Order Lowery, Stewart, Eldred, Galbraith Alpha Dog Brayden Lowery 126 State Ranked Wrestlers #6 Lukasz Walendzak Cathedral #7 Logan Wagner Zionsville #8 Cameron Toole Lebanon #9 Chase Wilkerson Mount Vernon #11 Jevian Ross Warren Central #18 Grant Stapleton Lawrenceburg Semi-State Ranked Wrestlers #6 Dalton Huffman #7 Sam Slivka Potential Matchups #6 Walendzak vs #8 Toole first round. A top eight ranked kid will be knocked out in the first round of semi state. Winner has undefeated #18 Stapleton in the ticket round. I would normally go with the experience of Walendzak here but he has taken losses two weeks in a row to kids ranked worse than him. #7ss Slivka vs Jared Brown should be good. Brown had Mattingly dead in the water last year in the ticket round and got pinned while winning by double digits. Don’t expect him to go down easily after beating Walendzak last week. #9 Wilkerson vs #11 Ross in a rematch from North Montgomery Holiday Classic. Ross got the fall in their dual in December. Should be a good one. #2 Wagner vs #9Wilkerson/#11 Ross Semi Finals. Wagner has put together a great sophomore campaign, but I suspect this semi finals will be a great matchup. 1st Round Picks Stapleton over Franco Toole over Walendzak Slivka over Fuller Brown over Lloyd Wilkerson over Langeman Ross over Frazier Wagner over Huffman McKee over Lonneman Tickets Punched in Order Toole, Brown, Ross, Wagner Alpha Dog Logan Wagner 132 State Ranked Wrestlers #2 Alex Viduya Roncalli #5 Logan Bailey Cathedral #13 Seth Johnson NM Semi-State Ranked Wrestlers #5 Aundre Beatty WC #8 Sebastian Bryant North Central Potential Matchups #5 Bailey vs #5ss Beatty. A rematch from early December. Bailey’s experience and win definitely weigh heavily here, however, Beatty is a dangerous wrestler that shouldn’t be overlooked. #13 Johnson vs #2 Viduya Semis with #5 Bailey in finals. If it is Viduya in the finals against Bailey it will be a rematch from a January dual where Viduya won 9-2. Don’t expect the margin to be that high again as Bailey will be prepared for the rematch. 1st Round Picks Brown over Naselroad Merkel over Defreese Bailey over Vredeveld Beatty over Lauy Viduya over Ramsey Wilkerson over Boggs Johnson over Collier Bryant over Walston Tickets Punched in Order Merkel, Bailey, Viduya, Johnson Alpha Dog Alec Viduya 138—Nasty weight class where two returning state qualifiers have each other first round. These two did not see each other at team state but one top ranked kid will be ending their careers a week earlier than expected. #12 Jarred Rowlett vs #16 Andrew Wilson. Two returning IHSAA State Qualifiers a year ago battle it out in the first round. Rowlett came out on top in a decision back in December and looks to end his career on the floor of Bankers life. Wilson is looking for that magic he found a year ago to help his team win another team title. #5 Phillips vs #12 Rowlett/#16 Wilson Ticket Round. No rest for either returning qualifier with undefeated Phillips waiting in the wings. A SSQ a year ago before injury ended his season is looking to punch his first ticket over someone looking for their second ticket. 1st Round Picks Wilkerson over Goodwin Lauy over Walsh Freije over Johnson-Sparks Luhmann over Negangard Holman over Crouch Smith over Pettiford Phillips over Poynter Rowlett over Wilson Tickets Punched in Order Wilkerson, Freije, Smith, Rowlett Alpha Dog Tyce Freije 145 State Ranked Wrestlers #2 Bryer Hall South Dearborn #4 Aiden Warren PM #5 Antwaun Graves WC #9 Jeff Dunasky Guerin Catholic #20 Terrell Leavell LC Semi-State Ranked Wrestlers #8 Joe Theriot Carmel Potential Matchups #5 Graves vs #9 Dunasky. This one should be good as Dunasky knocked of Frejie a few weeks ago at the conference tournament that was still held during the “snow storm” week where everyone else canceled. Graves is a returning medalist looking to get back on the podium. Graves is a four time SSQ at 145. #2 Hall vs #20 Leavell. Leavell is battle tested and has been here before and is looking for his first trip to the Bank. #3 Mosconi vs #4 Warren Semis in an overtime rematch #2 Hall vs #5 Graves Semis in a rematch from a 4-3 decision in January. 1st Round Picks Theriot over Alford Warren over Wilburn Mosconi over Newlin Wright over Wolf Graves over Miles Dunasky over Lindemood Hall over Smith Leavell over Bates Tickets Punched in Order Warren, Mosconi, Graves, Hall Alpha Dog Maybe Hall but really whoever has the best day. About as big of an argument for wrestlebacks as I’ve seen. This match could easily be under the lights at Bankers Life next week but is instead going to be wrestled in the ticket round. Someone who should be on the podium next week will be watching from the stands. #3 Noehre vs #13 Ragle vs #14 Williamson/#8ss Hayes. A very tough quarter bracket where two top 16 kids will be staying home after strong seasons. 1st Round Picks Rodgers over Williams Coleman over Sunding Davin over Goodner Fair over Roberts Otto over Atkins Dunn over Mangus Noehre over Ragle Hayes over Williamson Tickets Punched in Order (Coleman/Rodgers), Fair, Dunn, Noehre Alpha Dog Coleman/Rodgers 160 State Ranked Wrestlers #2 Jordan Slivka Cathedral #3 Brooks Davis PM #9 Ronan Hiner HSE #10 Aaron Taylor WC #12 Jake Lowe NM #14 Bradley Harrington North Central #18 Hayden Lohrey Shenandoah Semi-State Ranked Wrestlers #7 Andrew Roth Lawrenceburg #8 Garrett Sharp Carmel Potential Matchups Rebein vs #14 Harrington vs Lowe. An interesting group where 4 of the total 12 losses come from #10 Aaron Taylor. Rebein is a hammer on top with his wing and could surprise both of the ranked wrestlers here. #2 Slivka vs #10 Taylor. Another Cathedral and Warren matchup. Taylor has had an up and down year winning the Marion County tournament but definitely has the attributes to pull the upset. Slivka is, of course, a monster... Winner gets #9 Hiner who has a win over Taylor at the John Hurrle. Two top 10 wrestlers seasons will end in this quarter bracket alone. #2 vs #3 in the semis with Slivka and Davis 1st Round Picks Lowe over Bushey Rebein over Harrington Lohrey over Morgan Miller over Moore Slivka over Taylor Hiner over Roth Davis over Williams Rohrig over Sharp Tickets Punched in Order Rebein, Miller, Slivka, Davis Alpha Dog Jordan Slivka 170 State Ranked Wrestlers #3 Cody Klettheimer Frankton #5 Elijah Mahan Roncalli #8 Tucker Coffman Union County #10 Logan Hart Carmel #11 Kyle Saez Westfield #13 Josh Lowe NM #17 Drake Kendrex Mount Vernon #20 Tyler Wagner Cathedral Potential Matchups #11 Saez vs #20 Wagner. Wagner has had a very strong season even if it was done quietly with his #20 ranking. He has several very good wins and will be looking to help his team win a IHSAA state title. #3 Mahan vs # 17 Kendrex. A lot of tough draws for Mount Vernon with Kendrex doing battle with returning medalist Mahan for a ticket to state. #8 Coffman vs #13 Lowe. The second of the medalists battling another ranked opponent for a spot at the bank with Coffman being the returning 4th place finisher. #3 Klettheimer vs #10 Hart. One of these seniors will be staying home next weekend when the other could very easily be on the podium. Roudebush is some kind of athlete. Winner will see #12 Austin Lane in the semis. All eyes will be on the Cornhusker commit #1 Silas Allred, a prohibitive favorite. 1st Round Picks Heldt over Beard Roudebush over Shafer Lane over Maish Mills over Pierce Bynum over Krummen Keesee over Medlen Allred over Garcia Bishop over Shew Tickets Punched in Order Roudebush, Lane, Bynum, Allred Alpha Dog Silas Allred 220 State Ranked Wrestlers #3 Andrew Irick HSE #4 Kyle Cornwell Elwood #8 Drew Webster NM #15 Deshawn Young Franklin Central #16 Haakon Van Beynen Carmel #20 David Guhl Cathedral Semi-State Ranked Wrestlers #6 Cade Campbell PH #7 Carlos Mitchell WC Potential Matchups #4 Cornwell vs #16 Van Beynen ticket round. The Carmel phenom will have his hands full with Cornwell looking to finish #1 after losing his ranking at the North Mont Holiday Classic. Cornwell is ranked nationally in some publications. #7ss Mitchell vs #20 Guhl. In Mitchell's first tournament after winning a 6A IHSAA Football Title, he took losses to both Guhl and Williams of Avon. He avenged the Williams loss and is looking to help knock another Cathedral contender out of the series. Winner has the privilege of wrestling #3 Irick who took a rubber match loss to #8 Webster. Irick comes from a long line of bad men from HSE, and is ranked nationally. #8 Webster vs #15 Young/Brown. Young is very athletic and has gone back and forth with Mitchell from Warren. He is also the Marion County Champion and is looking to punch a ticket to state. Brown is no slouch and just beat #20 Guhl last week and Mitchell at the MIC. Browning/Burton/#6ss Campbell is an interesting quarter bracket where anyone can come out with the golden ticket. 1st Round Picks Cornwell over Mcclure Van Beynen over Dick Mitchell over Guhl Irick over Pandoli Webster over Badger Young over Brown Browning over Arvin Campbell over Burton Tickets Punched in Order Cornwell, Irick, Webster, Campbell Alpha Dog Drew Webster 285 State Ranked Wrestlers #1 Jamichael Watts North Central #9 Dennis Hubbard WC #10 John Harris Roncalli #12 Antone Alexander Franklin Central #17 Crae Kunkelman HSE Semi-State Ranked Wrestlers #6 Jonathan Williams Carmel #7 Zack McQueen Connersville #8 Josh Berger Northeastern Potential matchups: #10 Harris vs #7ss McQueen #17 Kunkelman vs #12 Alexander. A tough draw with Kunkelman getting third each week at sectionals and regionals against a tough FC Alexander who finds a way to win. #9 Hubbard vs #6ss Williams. A MIC rematch of an earlier contest where Hubbard got an early fall. Look for the Greyhound to try and take this match back. Winner gets #1 Watts in the ticket round. Hubbard lost a 1-0 match to Watts at the Marion County. A top 10 kid will be watching state rather than wrestling. 1st Round Picks: Harris over McDaniel McQueen over Evans Keller over Jones Berger over Wertz Aherns over Stephens Kunkelman over Alexander Watts over Adams Hubbard over Williams Tickets Punched in Order Harris, Keller, Kunkelman, Watts Alpha Dog Jamichael Watts

  2. Fully understand brother. Admittedly......the toughest part wasn’t Silas separating himself from other interested “powerhouse” programs. It was the phone calls to Ersland & Todd.....and of course Angel. We think extremely highly of these guys and everything they stand for. But ultimately.....Silas chose the program he felt would best benefit HIM regarding his goals. He will be a tremendous ambassador for our state’s Wrestling everywhere the sport, his hard work & health, and God takes him. Really appreciate everyone’s support and encouraging words. They won’t be forgotten gentlemen.

  3. First coached against this kid at the team state in 2016. Silas was a freshman and won a big match of two highly ranked 170lbers. No celebration, no non sense, strictly business. Shook hands walked off of the mat. He will be a great role model for Indiana Wrestling going forward. Congrats!

  4. Wes......Aporeciate the acknowledgement brother. And while you’re 100% correct regarding your point about hard work being greater than natural ability.....I only have 1 request. DO NOT downplay my elite DNA strain brotha! Because even though after 30 seconds the youngster has me either on my back, or too tired to continue......He still can’t hit my fastball......and he dreads putting on the boxing gloves with me! Gotta keep him honest .

  5. I know I’m essentially echoing everyone else’s thoughts here, but having a family member on his team for the past 6 years I have had the pleasure to watch this young man wrestle on a regular basis. I just want to say I have been around a lot of high school athletes over the past 20 years. It’s easy for a kid as talented as Silas to develop an ego. I have never met a more humble, polite, appreciative young man that takes nothing for granted. While he is obviously a great athlete, he isn’t a kid that was just born with ability, he has truly worked for everything he has accomplished. It has been a pleasure to see his development and it will be fun to watch him continue his journey towards his ultimate goal.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be sure to hit that one up. Be sure to hit up the Nacho stand as I’ve mentioned before. A little behind this as I believe. Portion go to what I’m anout to explain: its generally ran by members of Boom Squad. This is a group that was founded by a local attorney and wanted to find a way to not only give back to the community, but to help underprivileged kids. The kids come from broken homes, homes with legal battles and so forth. Mr. Miller bought an old bldg and renovated it, stocked it with Drums and opened the doors to help get kids into a positive environment for a couple hours a day. He’s done this for several years now and my family has also donated our time there(great learning experience and teaching tool for my boys). His fundraisers and donations help fund trips for his “boys” to travel all over the place like to Texas, New York, Ky and so forth. These boys come in and learn how to play music, bond as brothers and sisters and get so good that they get invited to these places. Since his opening of the door, he’s had several kids that turned their lives around and even got College scholarships. Amazing program. Sorry to post this on a wrestling forum but thought it was important to share cause I think it really has a same time of life learning lesson as this great sport does. Best of luck to all this weekend.

  7. I did not intend to rile my people!!!! I was just going with Scholars facts that I reckon were pulled from Maligned who is my stat guy, which says the Penn regional is a 3..same as all the others in ECSS including the always "maligned" Logansport regional! Maligned stats are usually not just pulled out of a hat so I trust his data..but respect your opinion @Penn04 ! Was not a dis on my beloved Kingsmen but more overall. Concur that those teams are improved. I think the fact that @TeamGarcia is trying to make us da Region people feel better about ourselves speaks volumes about the current state of affairs. LOL. Kinda like your brother pattin' you on the head to cheer you up after a tough day. Good luck, good health to everybody. One of the most anticipated days of the year. GO PENN!

  9. The top ranked 195lber in the state an our top Junior wrestler, Silas Allred, has committed to wrestle for Nebraska. Allred, hailing from Shenandoah just north of Indianapolis, will join four-time state champion Chad Red on the Husker roster. Allred is ranked anywhere from 5th-7th by all the national ranking services and atop 30 prospect for the class of 2020. Currently he sports a spectacular 90-2 record over his three years that includes a 5th place finish at state in 2018. His long list of national accolades includes placing 3rd at the Super 32 this past fall, a Cadet Folkstyle National title, and a 4th place finish in Cadet Greco-Roman. Allred had plenty of offers from many of the top programs in the country. The programs on his final list included state schools Purdue and Indiana along with North Carolina State and Maryland. Currently he is undecided on a major, but is leaning towards a business degree at Nebraska. Projecting at 197lbs for his collegiate career, Allred stated he was drawn to Lincoln for a plethora of reasons. “I chose Nebraska because it felt like home. After visiting a few colleges, no place made me feel even close to the way Nebraska did,” Allred said in response to his commitment. “I knew in my spirit the search was over. Not to mention the coaching staff and RTC is absolutely incredible. It is the perfect fit for my athletic and academic goals.” Good luck to Silas as he pursues not only his state goals, but national and international goals thi off-season.

  11. By JEREMY HINES Thehines7@gmail.com In a town named after the Roman goddess of the dawn, Aurora, a new wrestling star is rising in the south east corner of Indiana. South Dearborn sophomore Bryer Hall was a relative unknown last season. He put together a successful freshman season, and by the end of the year had worked his way up to No. 16 in the state rankings at 126 pounds. When the state tournament rolled around, people started to take notice of the newcomer. Hall rolled through his sectional as a freshman, winning every match by pin. He was just as dominant in the Richmond regional. He won his first round with a pin in just over a minute. In the second round he took on ranked senior Trevor Ragle (47-4) and pinned him in just 1:09. Then, in the final he went up against another talented wrestler in Centerville freshman Gabe Phillips, who is currently undefeated on the year and ranked No. 5 at 138. Just a little over two minutes into the match Hall injured Phillips shoulder, and Phillips was unable to go on. That injury ended the season for Phillips. Then, to start out the semistate, Hall injured another wrestler with almost the same move. It wasn’t anything intentional, but the injuries rattled Hall. “I didn’t want to hurt anyone,” Hall said. “It was upsetting that I ruined someone’s season and they could have went pretty far in the tournament. I thought it would be tough to go back and use the move because I didn’t want to hurt anyone else. But once I started wrestling again, instincts just took over and I had to get that thought out of my mind.” Hall won his ticket round semistate match 16-8 and then secured his biggest victory of his young career. He defeated former state champion Alec Viduya 11-5 to advance to the semistate championship. “We were hopeful that Bryer could get to state as a freshman,” South Deaerborn coach George Gardner said. “But we thought it might be a long shot when he had to go up against returning state champion Alec Viduya. But Bryer really took it to him in that match and handled that match much better than I thought he would.” Hall didn’t have enough in the tank to defeat Ethan Smiley in the final, who cruised to an 11-2 victory. Hall ended up placing sixth in state. He had wins over Kyle Lawson and Brycen Denny, but lost big to Cayden Rooks (tech fall) and Christian Meija (17-5). This season Hall is hoping to not have those big letdowns. “He ran out of gas in the semistate,” Gardner said. “Hopefully that won’t happen again. This year Hall is undefeated. He has stepped on the mat 33 times and each time had his hand raised in victory. He has moved up three weight classes and is currently ranked No. 2 at 145 pounds. “It felt pretty good to get noticed in the rankings for my hard work,” Hall said. Hall’s style of wrestling is difficult for others to scout. He calls himself a funky wrestler. “I am hard to figure out,” Hall said. “I’m just naturally funky. I move where my hips feel they should go.” That funkiness is especially helpful in scramble situations. “Bryer is a tremendous scrambler,” Gardner said. “He doesn’t have a signature takedown. He just makes things happen. He’s really hard to scout because he doesn’t do the same thing very often.” Hall could potentially see Warren Central’s Antwaun Graves in the New Castle semistate semifinal. If so, that is a match that could be particularly interesting. Hall won the regular season battle 4-3. “Anything can happen Saturday,” Gardner said. “He has to go out and wrestle his best each match.” Hall said his biggest wrestling accomplishment so far was placing fourth at Fargo over the summer at 138 pounds. He is hoping to top that with a state title this year. “My goal is to go undefeated and win state,” Hall said. “Last year I was nervous. This year I’m coming in a lot more confident.” View full article

  15. Love you brother, but I couldn’t disagree more. Just because Penn didn’t win half the weights like when Kory was there doesn’t mean it’s a weak regional. Wawasse is up. Culver is up. Mishawaka is up. Penn is a little down. Well see Saturday, but I think the Penn Regional is gonna surprise you with its qualifiers.

    From 22-16 to 31-1

Tristan Ruhlman from Bloomington South went 22-16 last year and lost first round of regionals. This year, he is 31-1 at 160 and has wins over #7 @ 152 Conley 3-1, previously ranked Sollars 6-2, an #7 Singleton 8-3, fall over # 20 Doane, and #16 Schank 9-3. Tristan's only loss is to #4 Pruett 3-4. Now, Tristan will have to beat a game Sollars again in the ticket round so I am not saying he is a lock but very impressed with his improvement. What gives? Seems like he got serious about wrestling and turned it up a notch..or several notches. Who else has improved drastically like this?

This year I’m coming in a lot more confident.”

This one is cheating to an extent, because I assume he was very undersized last year and had to bump due to talented teammates... But Brady Lewis of Huntington North was 16-18 and didn’t win a match at sectionals at 120. Now he’s down at 106 and comes into semi-state a regional champion with a 35-4 record. Another out of Ft. Wayne is Kamden Goering. Went two-and-out at sectionals last year with an 18-15 record and is 30-4 this year with losses only at the Al Smith and the regional championship.

  26. The reason that we branded ourselves TheCounty was out of our admiration of what The Region has always done. The Region has given the rest of the state the blue print on how to be successful on the state and national levels. When coach P brought that mentality and elite year round training down south. It opened many eyes. With that said, I don’t think that the region is down. I think that the rest of the state is catching up with big brother. Also... I know that Outlaw is doing some academy work in the Huntington area. With that said, who’s going to be the one to bust the doors wide open and start an elite academy in that area? Seems like a market that is ready for it.

I don’t know Gavin but I have friends (who know nothing about wrestling) who apparently do know him. They are very impressed with him. They say he is a very hard working, ambitious, polite, and respectful young man. One of them said, “I heard he wrestles for Greenfield. Maybe you’ve heard of him.”

  35. Couple of notes..... This is in Columbus, at Ohio State. Don't be surprised if Rasheed doesn't go at 184. He missed three matches, came back last weekend against Michigan with a huge knee brace and didn't look as explosive. May have just been winded from being out, from being sick, from not being able to work out or from cutting weight. No one knows as Penn St. doesn't provide much info on why guys are out. I'd be surprised if RBY goes at 133. Hope to see it, but I'm thinking no. Not sure what the deal is with McKenna. Coach Ryan was quoted as saying McKenna wanted to go last weekend but the doctor said no. Does that carry over to this weekend? Is Ryan being honest? If he goes, will he be 100%? Should be a fun battle to watch regardless. Match will be televised on the Big Ten Network at 8:30 eastern. A great appetizer for all the fireworks at Semi-State on Saturday!

  36. Breakdown by Sectionals: Mater Dei - 13 wrestlers advance Gibson Southern - 8 wrestlers advance Boonville - 6 wrestlers advance Castle and North Poesy - 5 wrestlers advance Central - 4 wrestlers advance Heritage Hills, Memorial, Mt. Vernon, and Reitz - 3 wrestlers advance Harrison - 2 wrestlers advance South Spencer - 1 wrestlers advance Observations: Mater Dei was awesome! SIAC Champions, Sectional Champions, Regional Champions, nothing new here! Gibson Southern had a good day! Robinson and Breivogel lost tough matches in finals. PAC Champions, Sectional Runner Up and Regional Runner Up. Lots of underclassmen still. I don't believe I've ever seen GS take this many to semi-state. Great job GS. Boonville also had a good day! They took some lumps in the semi-finals but their guys battled back in the consolation round. Fulks looked tough. I don't think I've ever seen Boonville take this many to semi-state either. 3rd in Big 8, Sectional Runner Up. I did hear in the stands that they should have won their conference but had some injuries the week of conference. Great Job Boonville. One of the glaring images out of the Castle Sectionals is that Boonville sends more to the Ford Center then Castle, the Sectional Champions. It's no secret that Castle had a rough day but Deters and Nunn looked ready to battle! North Poesy's kids looked tough also. We'll see if they can make some noise this Saturday. Mt. Vernon, (the Big 8 Champions) and Reitz were down from previous years. And Sam Scott looked great! He's got a tough drawl next weekend...but I'm not betting against him. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AT SEMI-STATE!!

  38. Congrats my friend! So much respect for you and your family. Your an awesome wrestler but your faith, respect and character is what makes you such an amazing young man. I have enjoyed so much getting to watch you and get to know you on the national trips and teams. You will do fantastic. Congrats again

  39. Great pick here. Breken was in the MS program when I was coaching at Mooresville and in the off-season at club practices kid would scrap with Seniors like it was nothing. Tons of heart, some good technique too. Gotta root for this kid. He has another teammate that was literally 4th string JV 220 as a Freshman, a backup last year and now is in Semi-State (and is a cadet state champ this past season) in Robbie Gentry at 285. Great attitude, fun kid. Two athletes I’ll definitely be pulling for while coaching in New Castle.

  40. Which of these guys are non-big boys? You expect a few of the big-boy improvement stories because mastery of a couple positions or finishes can translate into drastically different results--but smaller guys making a big jump is less common for sure.

  41. A few years ago, I tried to get a multi-school offseason club together around East Chicago, Whiting, and Hammond. I found a whole bunch of distrust and folks worried about who would be in charge. Previous to meeting with the various schools at their schools in person and forwarding and physically presenting them with USA Wrestling documents, including errors and omissions insurance papers, I told the stakeholders that we could easily vote on president, treasurer, secretary, etc. At least half of them eventually declined. We don't have the money that the Region teams do outside of Hammond, East Chicago, Gary, and Whiting. Yet, we can make each other better and compete IF there is not a selfish desire to be the king of a molehill. Good luck. I also find it a shame that a lot of the very successful alumni of the aforementioned schools elect to leave the area in neglect and disarray. A few of them are still in the trenches where they grew up, but most have chosen the greener side of the grass. I can see why, but it does not give the kids enough accessible role models to emulate.

  42. Free ...... Sleeper Pick Mooresville 126- Breken Greene I picked him to go to State on 2 things . 1. Went through his results last week at Regionals. He went 3 periods (5-3) loss with a 2x State Champ Brayden Curtis that told me the kid has desire, heart . So he can wrestle with the best of them on the mat. 2. He’s pretty good, watched a couple matches at Regionals. He comes in as a 3 seed a underdog in a pretty loaded 126 bracket, asked myself what if he comes in with that same desire at the Ford Center he showed vs. Curtis . Has nothing to lose. Little things like that caught my eye about this Champ . Keep a eye on this kid this Saturday. The Notorious

    Evansville Semi- State

Just some info from us here at the Ford Center. I will be there all day Saturday, so if you have any problems, questions, or just want to say hi send me a PM. I will be checking messages periodically. I look forward to this event every year since it is no doubt the best event we host all year, but I may be biased. -Mark Parking and general information about the arena can be found at www.thefordcenter.com Wrestlers can enter the arena at 7:30am for weigh ins. Wrestlers and coaches will enter at the interior ticket office lobby (to the far right of the main lobby doors) to check in and head back. You will pick up your credentials here. The only coolers allowed are for wrestlers and must enter at the check in table through the interior ticket lobby. Coolers must then be taken in to the hospitality room or the surrounding hallways and stay out of the general public areas at all times. Please don't abuse this, we would hate to have to ban coolers in the future. NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK for anyone else is allowed inside unfortunately. Not my rules, just standard building policy. Public doors open at 8:00am CST. Enter on Main Street through the main lobby. We will look to create a separate door/entrance for those that already have tickets. There is NO onsite parking. Please do not have any team vehicles attempt to park in the loading dock or attached outer lot. These are reserved spots. There is no public Wi-Fi. Tickets are $10 cash at the door. Premium loge seats are available for purchase now and on event day: They are $40 pre-event at the Ford Center ticket office. This includes one entry in to the arena, a nice reserved seat at the top of the lower bowl, and $20 worth of food vouchers you can use at the concession stands. They are $30 once you get in the door (obviously doesn't include your entry ticket since you will already be inside) available first come first serve, cash only, at our guest service location near section 101 on the concourse. This includes a reserved seat in the loge area and $10 in food vouchers. There is an ATM in the lobby if you need to get some cash out. Please do not jump over the dasher walls to access the floor. They try to control access to the floor, so you need to enter from the lower level hallway under section 103. I like the boys that literally jump the wall over the sign and tear it down in the process. You wouldn't jump the wall at Banker's Life would you? The hospitality room for officials, etc. will be in the Corner Club. Enter from the main lobby and hang a right at lower level hallway. If you are going to set up a camera please do not have the cord running across the aisle. You will be made to unplug any cords running across an aisle. We will have full concessions available throughout the day. Coffee and hot chocolate are also available all day as well. (get the bbq pork nachos, huge and awesome) There is no smoking on or in the Ford Center property, this includes e-cigarettes. Brackets will be updated throughout the day and posted on several of the 170 or so TVs located all over the arena. The brackets end up kind of small, but hey, they are everywhere and pretty cool. Lastly,if you are a wrestler that loses please don't kick, throw,or punch Ford Center property. We have sent a bill for damaged property in the past.

  44. Sounds more to me like you’re probably unaware of the process. Matches are paired using a formula between the 4 Regionals and their placements. I realize at times it may seem like certain kids receive better draws than others.....and honestly, they have. But it’s not because there is someone overseeing matters that ensures certain kids get an easier path, while others get the hard road. That’s why working hard and trying to secure a #1 seed is so important. I noticed you had just joined the site a couple weeks ago. So my response to you is based on helping you better understand the process a bit. And giving you the benefit of the doubt, that you’re not trying to create strife with a rival school. Because I can attest to the fact that the individuals I personally know from SD......spill their guts year round to be the best version of themselves possible, and deserve all the success and good fortune that comes their way. Hope this gives you some clarity.

  45. State ranked kids they will probably face to advance to BLF 106 — vs #9, then #5 120 — vs #5 132 — vs #2 145 — vs #20 152 — vs unranked, Good draw 220 — vs #16, then #4 So you consider that a good draw for the South Dearborn wrestlers? Wow.

    Gavin Rose

From IndyStar article: It wasn’t until the 132-pound bout where Warren Central’s perfect start was put in jeopardy. Greenfield-Central senior Gavin Rose led Warren Central’s Aundre Beatty 3-2 in the final period. But as Beatty knotted up the match with an escape late, Rose went down. For more than 10 minutes, trainers, coaches and support staff surrounded the senior wrestler as they stabilized his left ankle and helped get him off the mat in a wheelchair. Rose, who finished seventh in the state at 113 last season, came into the sectional finals match with a career-best 32-2 record. As he was wheeled out of Warren Central’s gym, the senior received a standing ovation. “He’s got the biggest heart of any kid I coached. It’s disappointing, but we’ve got to wait and see what the doctor says,” Greenfield-Central head coach Josh Holden said. “I know he was in pain but that doesn’t always mean you’re done. I think that was his fear and that’s why he was so emotional, he was just worried about next week. “He’s probably telling the doctors right now, ‘How do I wrestle next week?’”
