    Wrestling Mom Dancing

Hopefully, if she sees this she does not think we are laughing at her. I think it is great and goes to show just how intense wrestling can get, even for the fans. You don't see this in any other sport. The song selection was spot on by the way

  3. Well it has an OK rating and a decent cast with some future stars. Heck, Glenn Close just won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Female in a Leading Role. Do you think the weather may cancel the theater showing?

  4. Couple boys I started training 3 4 months ago wrestled well..117 Brev Thrine gave it hell getting 4th behind those 3 you listed.. also Gavyn Whitehead wrestled great beating Studs Bohn and Leavell! I wonder if that's Jason leavells family? i'm just a retired old fighter and wrestler that just loves giving bk to the sport that saved my life... Everybody be on the lookout for a 5th grader I'm also helping named Tylin Thrine.. kid is a unreal athlete and competitor! If I can keep him focused he will do big things.. He's never placed at state always losing close matches.. He's determined more than ever this season and I have a feeling come state he will change that stat! congrats to all the wrestlers that compteted and the parents and coaches that make sacrifices for your wrestlers to be in the sport I consider the greatest on the planet!

  6. There are many reasons why the coaches aren't in the best of graces. First off some were caught cheating on weigh-ins and putting incorrect weights on their weigh-in sheets. The refs then had to take pictures of EVERY weigh-in sheet and send them to Faulkens. Some still cheated.... Constantly disobeying simple rules such as the travel rule or contact during moratorium. Along with toeing the line of IHSAA rules and bending them as much as possible aren't exactly helping. Lastly, the old guard of IHSWCA members that constantly want to "fight" the IHSAA rather than work with them on proposals and changes. That part is getting better, but still has a long ways to go to make up for the many years of trying to fight the IHSAA. Those are just some of the reasons why we aren't in the best of graces.

  7. nice article, cgi369. the concensus on the psu board agreed with coach ersland, purdue came to wrestle. in some of the psu duels it seems that the opponent is trying to avoid embarrassment rather than trying to win. both the purdue and the indiana kids were wrestling to win. it bodes well for the future of those two programs.

  8. Here's a story I wrote on the Purdue vs. Penn State meet for Purdue's student newspaper, I was able to talk to Thornton and coach Ersland after the match. https://www.purdueexponent.org/sports/mens/wrestling/article_5250a134-1f7a-5801-b665-1542a23c5f05.html

  9. Because the IHSAA wants to show their power. I'd gladly make up the brackets like in the olden days. I loved waiting for a couple random regionals to report results and then hurry and finish the brackets.

  10. Desanto is a bad sport a lot of times..I love watching him wrestle but all that extra yelling in ppls faces after he beats them or trying to break arms with kimuras out of frustration isn't cool.

  11. Yes, what a showing by the Haines boys. I didn’t see Landen wrestle, but Preston wrestled my son in the finals, and he wrestled a great match. Hat’s off! Congrats to all participants, it was a great tourney. Back to the room to get better!

  15. Should be a good dual with a couple of Indiana boys with tough matches. #7 Lee vs #5 Storr at 141 #7 Parris vs #3 Cassar at 285 It will be live on BTN, so as long as you have a cable/satellite/streaming subscription with BTN you can watch.

  16. Does anyone else think it would be a good idea to rotate the sectional sites? That is as long as other schools wanted to host. And of course have the facilities to do so.

  17. I really hope this is reason or it gives me even less faith that the IHSAA is doing what’s best for the athletes and high school sports. Nothing like punishing the other coaches, athletes, fans, media, and the general promotion of the sport rather than just “growing a pair” and properly punishing those who are causing issues. Group punishments rarely fix the actual problem because those at fault don’t feel its directed at them.

  18. I was reading some threads on the PSU board. Those guys that post there can be a little (a lot) harsh and even they recognized Brey's guts. He came to wrestle. Odds were hugely stacked against him, but he didn't back down.
    1 point
  19. He’s 100 percent both. Ask an undersized Brey Bailey. Brey went out there and gave it hell at 157. That took some guts to bump up pretty much two weights and wrestle that dude. Still proud of my guy Brey!

  20. I believe they also say he’s border autistic which is why he acts out.

  21. yes he's wrestling on another level and its apparent! Triz too has not been scored on either in matches he had wrestled.. The county is coming for the rest of the state.. I'll take Brewer and a banged up Carson over the field.. I'm glad we have become friends and it's been a joy watching our wrestlers compete and I know in my heart they can both be on that podium and hopefully under the lights together.. but 1 match at a time though and best of luck to your family..see you this weekend and hopefully the next 2!

  22. I appreciate the kind words from my buddy. I will say that here in Indiana Brewer has been forfeited to, teched, or pinned everyone he has faced through sectionals and has only given up points by cutting kids. He really takes pride in pushing the pace and scoring lots of points for a bigger guy. Love me some aggressive wrestlers. Big fan of all the others on this list!!!

  25. After watching DeSanto vs Lizak, I really hope Lizak gets better and turns the table on him. If I was coaching him, I would have pulled him off the mat and benched him for a couple matches regardless of how talented he is. Usually the only way those types get the message.

  26. Spencer Lee actually was asked about this during an interview and he said that he and the rest of team are working on him and trying to get him to mellow out.

  27. I couldn’t agree more. How many more wrestling fans would DeSanto have if he just went about his wrestling style in workmanlike fashion? I still love watching him wrestle.

  29. Regional brackets should be available as 3PM CST tomorrow and Semi State is currently scheduled as 2/4 at 11 CST. Though it could always change. And the state brackets will be released after the IHSAA telecast.

  34. This is a response from someone who was actually working the tables on Saturday. Also, I have to say with Trackwrestling and utilizing First Available Mat systems, it really isn't that hard to figure out when you are up. Every kid and every coach has access to a cell phone. They can login to Track and see exactly when they are up with just the tap of a couple of menus. ISWA wrestlers and coaches use this all the time for tournaments that are considerably bigger and have longer wait times. - extending delay in the middle of wrestlebacks -- I'm guessing the computer system went down (we got shut down by technology because one of the tournament worker’s computer had a Malware that came up and we disconnected that computer and they let us back on. Yes, that took a little time. We were also ready to do paper bought sheets) - seemingly random moves to different mats & a lousy PA system making it difficult to hear who's up -- I saw several kids who had no idea that there match was up NOW. Watched one kid who was still in ALL of his warmup gear, had to find his headgear & then told to spit out his gum on the scorers table. (PA system was good, announcer was good. We wrestled first available mat, so kids had to know their bout number and all bout numbers were on the clocks. If a kid didn’t know where he was suppose to wrestle, it was HIS or his COACH’S fault for not paying attention. Bout numbers were on the programs.) - either I should get my hearing checked or they had NO SOUND at the end of periods & relied completely on kids to tap the refs (naturally, those kids can lose focus during such a long day) ( The clocks used did not have horns so towel tappers were used. The table I was at, my kid did a FANTASTIC job. That is done at A LOT of matches and tournaments.) - poor use of mats at the end of early rounds -- they would shut down 1 of the mats with 2 or 3 more matches remaining at the other mats (trackwrestling assigns matches 3 deep on a mat. Once that mat has their matches done, especially if there were a few falls, then that mat was done. That gave workers a break, which no breaks were scheduled.) - no security to keep random fans off the main floor or to keep fans from standing at the balcony rails (Announcements were made throughout the day about people standing in front of bleachers in front of fans. I agree that a lot of the security didn’t do a lot, but announcements were made. Can’t help it that there were a few RUDE fans that didn’t care about anyone else but themselves.) - timing & scoring equipment plugged into outlets that easily got knocked out by wrestlers, managers etc who tripped over the cords (TWO cords got unplugged the whole day. Didn’t seem like that much of a problem. Yes, it could have been avoided, but the people setting up the mats were doing it for the first time BY THEMSELVES. They put some plugs in different places than what was done previously.) - no programs available until just before the 9am start (Programs were printed after weigh-ins were over, which is becoming more and more common so wonderful fans like yourself can have up-to-date brackets without having to make changes and asking questions about why is the bracket different than what is being wrestled.) Now, if you have any more questions, or want improvements, volunteer yourself and see what REALLY goes on behind the scenes of the tournament. Thank You!!!

  37. True...might be tempting to think the quality was "down" because Bellmont is down, but this is as deep as the Jay County sectional has been in the 8 years we've been tracking its strength for Team State. Lots of quality from lots of different places.

  41. @141 Nick Lee with a major decision over Luigs 13-3. PSU 16-9 @149 Verkleeren with a 6-4 win over Silva. PSU 19-9 @157 Jason Nolf with the fall over Bailey at 2:47. PSU 25-9 @165 Vincenzo Joseph with the fall over Martin at 1:23. PSU 31-9 @174 Mark Hall with a 12-4 major decision over Cavaciu. PSU 35-9 Joseph got a "one leg takedown" and Hall was to face Covachoo. Granted he did correct himself quickly, just as he did after he mentioned Jason Rolf in his match.

  49. First off I want to let everyone know I usually do not read threads on here and I just now signed up to be able to post because it sickens me to see these “likes” and comments! While I do not condone the issue of using plastics, I also do not know the full story on what recently took place at Carmel High School, nor do any of you! It makes me sad that I see such negative comments towards my high school coach, knowing he has done SO much for many programs and for the state of Indiana. I am not going to sit here and tell you that I have agreed with everything Coach P has done, there have been times we haven’t seen things eye to eye.....But I am not going to forget everything else he stands for and the many improvements he has brought to the wrestling community in Indiana. Nobody is perfect! We all make mistakes, some more public than others. It saddens me to see so many people that have reaped the benefits of his presence in wrestling get on this thread and bash him and “like” derogatory comments about him. Coaching isn’t easy and dealing with most parents does NOT make it fun. One of the fundamental rules I live my life by is “never kick a man when he is down”. I will put aside my thoughts and opinions and I CHOOSE to reach out and anyone who is down I try to help them rise again and become better! One bad decision does not define you!!! It is when you are down you will find your true friends, I am here for P. Writing thoughtless posts on message boards while hiding behind a keyboard is also a great way to burn bridges ..... something else I try very hard never to do! Leroy Vega
