  2. Stirring the pot by talking about who got beat worse...

  3. It is unfair that Shohei Ohtani gets $700,000,000 over the next 10 years and I don't. I am going to see if I can get my contract renegotiated so that him and I are equal.

  4. As we just completed the first month of competition: It's been dry fellas. I can't jump on anyone unless they say something controversial or diss Snider. The dumb stuff I've been letting slide by(see what i did?). I mean Garcia, Brewski, @FCFIGHTER170I mean what's poppin'? Where's the @regionrat1 at?. @Caleb Spires has been on the money I can't complain. @ontherise219 ranked the most kids from Snider than I can recall. What can I complain about? The Al is still 2 plus weeks away. I'm bored. I'd even take one of @ReformedPoster's ridiculously asinine takes at this point.

  5. A banged up Floyd team lost to a full power Cathedral team A banged up Cathedral team lost to a full power Franklin team. So when the voters look most will just see Franklin over Cathedral and Cathedral over Floyd Also the power poll is based on individual rankings, not forecasting potential dual finishes. All of that being said #LetFloydIn

  6. Floyd is being underestimated. I believe, if I were a 3a coach, I would be on here saying anything I could to have them not added.

  7. Who’s complaining when #TheCounty got 2 Top 4 Teams in the State. You got #TheCounty super fan Bill Swerski predicting that “Da Birds” would beat the Wildcats by 76-0 and they did in a rout . Someone tell Bill they didn’t . According to Bill he was on the $. Do we need to talk about them #16 in the Nation Brownsburg Bulldogs ? Team is special. Future Bright in #TheCounty .

    Can someone stir the pot?

Sorry to disappoint. Been dealing with some personal stuff. That drunk rich guy that looks like Barney from the Simpsons did pipe up last week when I hit the site with an #TheCounty last week to shout out a top 5 dual. I really didn’t have the energy to fire back. But… you’re right.. we need to get some good debates going!

  9. Aidan has a solid cradle. He was on my team at Heartland duals this past March and he was cradling everyone.
    3 points
  10. Really fun one. Aidan is going to be multi time placer in Indiana for sure. Zach lost a scramble in the first period which ended with Kincaide locking up a cradle and going up 5-0. Hard to battle back from that deficit against anyone who is good and Aidan certainly is. Will be a fun battle when they see each other again at Conference and perhaps Semi-State.

  11. I know our dear IHSWCA president @Jcjcjc was in the chat last night, so he knows Mike and I's suggestion. Here is what we said about it and what Mike and I think is the best solution. Hopefully our other leaders like the VP @Ed Pendoski, @Greg Ratliff, and the great one @dstruck all jump on board with this idea.

  12. @Y2CJ41 well that wasn't very nice! I'm at least above average at jumping rope! In all seriousness I think the logical thing is to expand it to 12 teams. The 3a has proven to be the most unpredictable by the points with late additions such as ourselves and Columbus East having a lot of success.

  13. Wrong thread... You are looking for the PTSD discussion.

  14. I might be an a**hole for saying this but I don't care what the reasoning is. Surplus or shortage, there should always be a standard for any job. If you are not able to do your job at the bare minimum then you need to find something else to do that day until you're capable. It sounds like this ref needs to be a second ref and assist as needed. There is no excuse for a ref not getting down to mat level and calling nearfall, pins, locking hands, etc.....There is a major difference to being slower than others because of health problems vs inability to do it (either by choice or physically incapable). Every coach has seen refs that are top tier and others that have areas to work on but I think every coach and wrestler would agree that there are certain bare minimums that are expected every match. We should be able to critique in a way that is respectful and meant for learning.
    2 points
  15. When there is a surplus of referees, then it's fair to criticize and ask for better options. Until then, be thankful that these people are willing to give up their Saturday or weekday evening to help the show go on for the kids. I'm not a referee but I know that it's a very thankless job with relatively low pay and constant complaining. Maybe this gentleman had knee issues or even replacements - until you know someone's story just remember that they are not out there saving lives they are just calling an amateur contest and nearly volunteering their time

  18. I am so conflicted. The wrestler, parent, coach part of me would love wrestle backs. The fan in me loves the round to go. No other round in the country compares to it. You can quote every piece of research out there (and I commend you for all that you have already done) but nothing compares to "If you want to go to State don't lose in the round to go". If you are the number 4 kid in the state and you lose in semi-state guess what you're not the best in the State. I you lost in the first round and wrestle back to 4th maybe you just had a good day. That does not mean you are one of the top 4 wrestlers. No system will ever be perfect. Yes maybe wrestle backs are better than what we have now. But not buying that wrestle backs will get you the top 4 of every semi-state to state. Not even sure that should be the goal. If that really is the goal why not just have the top 16 ranked wrestlers go to state regardless of what semi-state you are from. But that's why we wrestle on Saturdays.......

  23. Since @ontherise219 wanted to see who puts in the most individual results, here you go Name Number @littlevito 364 Y2CJ41 24 @Beavman10 17 @cccoach 14 @bomber_bob 10 @brickfor6 10 @rookie78 10 @NORSEMEN Coach 9 @Coplen187 9 @Gurpartap Gill 9 @ducktails 9 @PatParham 8 Jessica Gropp 7 BlackBaron 7 Starz1994 6 gogoplata89 6 AJ 6 QuinnHarris 6 Ella Morris 5 Silence Dogood 5 spfaff 5 CoachAven 5 decbell1 5 jheaston 5 Nate Spangle 4 I think we might have to reward the people who put in the most with gear and/or Silverback memberships. So that means enter in more results, whether it's wins or losses, but also don't be shy of helping your kid by entering other people's results.

  24. Since no one else wants to give this guy his flowers I will. Ethan Dodson helped lead The Snider Panthers to the 5A Football State Championship this year. Along the way he earned All State honors as a top 50 player in the state. All this after he committed to compete for the Air Force Academy Falcons next year. He's an excellent student so I'm certain he'll make Academic All State as well.

  25. Meh… I have had quite a few state qualifiers that were not top 4 qualify. I have had many more wrestlers I have felt were top 4 not make it. This isn’t rocket science. Our setup is flat out flawed. End of story.

  26. On the second day of Christmas, IHSAA gave to me, no wrestle backs Indiana is one of the only states that doesn’t use double elimination format with full wrestlebacks in its state tournament. We have a total of 5 single elimination rounds in our state tournament series. We are a state, possibly the only state, that eliminates half of its state qualifiers in a single match. Here’s a comparison to other states: The Outlier State Population Wrestle Backs? Placement Indiana 6.8 million first round single elimination Remaining 8 wrestle for placement to 8th The Norm (8 state comparison) State Population Wrestle Backs? Placement Iowa 3.2 million full wrestle backs (no single elimination) Placement to 8th Pennsylvania 12.9 million full wrestle backs (no single elimination) Placement to 8th Illinois 12.5 million full wrestle backs (no single elimination) Placement to 6th Michigan 10 million full wrestle backs (no single elimination) Placement to 8th Ohio 11.7 million full wrestle backs (no single elimination) Placement to 8th Missouri 6.1 million full wrestle backs (no single elimination) Placement to 6th Nebraska 2 million full wrestle backs (no single elimination) Placement to 6th Tennessee 7 million full wrestle backs (no single elimination) Placement to 6th Part of wrestling is wrestlebacks. Wrestlebacks allow a wrestler to deal with the adversity and bounce back from losing a match. Colleges scouts want to see how wrestlers handle failure. Also, if they are scouting at state, they want to see their prospects wrestle more than one match. ISWA tournaments use wrestlebacks. NCAA tournaments use wrestlebacks. Other states use wrestlebacks. Not having wrestlebacks is changing a fundamental part of the sport. It’s like not allowing the forward pass in football (go back to 1905), not allowing 3 point shot in basketball (go back to 1966), not allowing a designated hitter in baseball (go back to 1972). When you have among the lowest success rates in the country, it makes using wrestlebacks even more important. Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association has been asking for wrestlebacks (especially at semi-state). This request is consistently denied by IHSAA assistant commissioner Robert Faulkens. Is that the right decision? If you agree Indiana should have wrestlebacks, click “Like”.

  34. I see that Floyd is ranked 2nd in 3A, and 6th in the power poll. On the gorilla radio show the other night it was discussed that they would most likely not get voted in because they lost to Cathedral. I always feel the rankers do a pretty good job but it seems messed up that the 2nd ranked team would not get the nod. So I ask, are the guys that do the rankings over estimating how good Floyd is, or is the voting committee underestimating how good they are? I hope the 12 team format will be used!

A lot of people go undefeated, 6 did last season. That being said, an early season loss to a tough wrestler is not a big deal. I would expect a different result should they meet again

  40. Apparently, Ohtani is deferring his salary and only taking 2 million a year so the Dodgers can keep spending. I guess that means he gets the rest at the end of the ten years. Maybe you could negotiate a contract like that, coach.

  44. I don't think the system will ever get the best 16 wrestlers at each weight to the State Finals. Someone, no matter the circumstances, will not make it. Illness, injury, skin funk, bad draw, headlock, etc have and will continue to happen whether there are wrestle backs or not.
    1 point
  45. Im sorry, but thats a weak strawman "whataboutism argument. Ohtani is a valuable baseball player, and is getting paid his fair market value. Thats as fair as anything gets. You too are getting paid your fair market value. Right???. I think youre misiing the point. The ultimate goal is not to nake a fair system, but to make a system thats best for wrestlers and wrestling fans.

    Weirdest thing happened

I completely agree. I was really impressed with all of the officials we had! I told a couple different people how nice it was. We had zero issues. I loved this tournament and hope to be back!
