  2. This is the kind of thinking that runs young posters down the rabbit hole chasing the wrong goals. Winning and losing a day and a post are un-controllable. Focus on what you can control. Become a great poster, don't try to be the best poster of the day or the week or the year. Time is fleeting, but memes are forever. If FCFighter170 was a young impressionable poster, he'd see this and just re-hash his old wins and forget what got him to this level to begin with, hard work, hyping up his boys, and weird connections through space and time. Sometimes our greatest posts aren't wins, and because of that we learn and we build. If Ontherise219 was only trying to win the day, he'd underrank CP and Brownsburg to get the people riled up. But Rise won't sink to that level.

Contenders is killing it. Based off of state where their wrestlers win the first 5 weights and middle school state some of the best wrestlers in the state are in that room. In the region you have a couple NCAA champs running practices Howe- Andrew Howe, Jon Morrison and Bobby Joe Maldonado that is a a great group of coach’s RWA- Jason and Alex Tsirtsis, Kique Escobedo and Paul Petrov who are all great coaches congratulations to Mt Carmel on winning Illinois state Bulldog Premier and Elite Athletic club do a great job also further east Midwest Training Center has All American Chris Fleeger towards Fort Wayne The Fort had 3 guys who won state championship training there warrior rtc at Indiana tech is doing a great job!

  5. WHEELER/HOBART RTC WHEELER HIGH SCHOOL - WEDNESDAYS 6-7:30pm 587 W. 300 N. Valparaiso, IN 46385 HOBART HIGH SCHOOL- THURSDAY 6-7:30pm 2211 E. 10th St Hobart, IN 46342 *Must have USAW card to participate in RTC. Start date: February 28th at Wheeler Directors: Jason Cook & Zack Johansen Email: Jcook@union.k12.in.us zjohansenclass@hobart.k12.in.us Phone: 219-508-3170 (Coach Cook) 219-614-0447 (Coach Johansen) STYLES COVERED: Freestyle, Greco, and Folkstyle Mission Statement: INT-RTCs unify the Indiana wrestling community under one goal to advance the sport across the state INT - RTC 2024 primarily in Olympic Styles of wrestling. The intention of an INT- RTC practice is NOT to be a club practice, rather to be a site for potential ISWA National Team members, coaches and hopefuls to come together and train in Olympic Styles. The purpose of the ISWA INT-RTC’s are to allow individuals to achieve their full human and athletic potential. The INT-RTCs provide ISWA National Team hopefuls access to national team and silver level coaches. INT-RTCs should mirror ISWA and USA Wrestling’s mission, vision, and values. A key focus is to raise the relevance of Olympic Style wrestling in Indiana. Within IHSAA rules, INT-RTCs provide additional opportunities for Indiana National Team Coaches to further develop and enhance their individual programs, while helping the surrounding area clubs and schools. This cooperative effort strengthens the connection between the Olympic Movement and high school athletics. An INT - RTC will not tolerate any site, or visitor talking “recruitment”. This should be a pressure free, Olympic spirited, environment. (Recruiting kids to our national teams should be a daily occurrence though!) Each INT- RTC will have a weekly 20-30 minute focus written by an Indiana National Team Staff member so that every site every week, no matter where they are, they have a unity and common vocabulary to them. If there is more than one INT-RTC in the area each night of the week - all of them should start with this common practice plan. The intention is to get as many “paired” sites working together to get more kids training together and not just working one site, one style - rather visiting others and spreading the talent.

  6. Across the last 10 actually wrestled D1 tournaments we've gotten 23 All-Americans. And we've seen 113 All-Americans from the last 10 actually wrestled D2, D3, NAIA, NJCAA tournaments. That's 2.3 D1 and 11.3 smaller-division All-Americans per year. Who get these men's spots for us this year? I follow D1 much more than the others, so it's the one I know. Trying to see things objectively, I think only 2 AAs is the most likely scenario this year. How I'd categorize our Indiana high school grads' AA chances: Likely: Mendez--He is in an always-deep 141, but he would need to lose a couple of significant upsets not to medal. He's one of 2 (maybe 3) clear gold medal contenders. Davison--Heavyweight, contrary to high school, tends to be fairly predictable with obvious tiers. Davison seems headed for about a #6 seed, and him winning above his seed or losing below his seed outside of about 3 to 8 is unlikely. Small chance: Allred--His ranking suggests he's in about the same position he was last year heading into Big 10s, where he emerged not only as an AA threat, but also a dark horse to take the whole thing. However, we haven't seen the same scoring savvy that he showed last year in any of his matches against top competition this year. He's got a great shot to win a couple NCAA matches again, but he'll need to rekindle some things we haven't seen yet this year to make an AA run. B-Lee--I love how hard this dude has worked to get back and to be ready to bang headed into Big 10s. He's capable of some interesting moments again. Sadly, though, he will need to rediscover one or two more helpings of that past prowess to make a run. G-Rooks--He's come agonizingly close before, so I wouldn't count him out. Like last year, he needs a workable draw, and he needs to get hot. It's not probable--but not impossible. He's got a really similar mix of results to last year, and he seems headed for a similar seed. Notable others: DJ Washington--Not sure why he's struggled so much for a sustained period now, but I would have had him in the "small chance" category for sure early this season. He doesn't look like himself at all right now, so it's hard to imagine much post-season impact from him unless he recovers from whatever is ailing him very quickly. Blake Boarman--Breakout year for Blake. He seems headed for an NCAA bid with a sparkling record of 17-4. But he wrestles a lesser schedule, so it's hard to get a handle on how much he might be able to do against top guys. I'm excited to follow him at SoCon's and beyond. Gabe Sollars--Super fun pin artist that's had a couple tight ones with AA contenders. He hasn't quite broken through against the upper tier; but if he manages to get into the tournament, he could make some noise. Brody Baumann--He's another one that needs to sneak into the tournament first, but that shows flashes of creating interesting upsets. Evan Bates--He's solid. He beats who he should, but loses fairly clearly against the top 30. Getting into the tournament, which he could very likely do, would be a good result for him. Connor Barket--Big strides forward, but he'll need a special performance at the ACC tournament to get into NCAAs. Brodie Porter--Same as Barket...big strides, but likely a year or two away from big noise. Nick Wilham--Admirable job jumping in at 285, but would also need a huge conference tournament.

  11. No. Are you concerned with coaches continuing to coach their high school wrestlers without giving the kids a break? Or are you worried about high school coaches coaching someone from another school? For most high school coaches, a forced downtime wouldn't be the end of the world. But right after the IHSAA State Finals is Frosh/Soph State, then USA Folkstyle State, then Freestyle season, and Freestyle State. Then Regionals. Then camps and clinics and team duals. Then, if you are lucky enough, you have a Fargo qualifier. Then more camps and clinics and practices. Then IHPO and possibly another team dual to freshen up and then high school season starts. I'm looking for that "cool down" period somewhere. August is the best hope, but now you need to get ready to compete at IHPO in September, which has turned into an absolute beast of a tournament so you better be in shape.

Columbus East Wrestling Club would almost certainly be the closest for your kids, but I'm not sure where the one near Cincinnati is. Contenders South in Greenwood Indiana would be probably the next closest. Pretty much Straight up I-65. Maurer-Coughlin in Evansville would be about the same as Contenders South from you. Those 3 would all be excellent choices, and all within a couple of hours from Louisville.

    Indiana Wrestling

As the Indiana high school wrestling season comes to an end…Just wanted to give a big shout out to all of the Indiana clubs and coaches. First generation wrestling family here. My boys were introduced to the sport by their uncle/cousin. Such a great sport and community! We have met so many great people and competitors. Blessed to have such a great community and support system. The boys have had club coaches from all over the state help in their corner multiple times w/ no ties to the boys whatsoever. Just there to support Indiana wrestling. Another big shout out to contenders and red cobra. Both have been home clubs w/ outstanding coaches and partners!! This forum and the wrestling community is outstanding.

  20. Kayla Miracle also took gold (which matters a lot..explained below). Jacob Moran wrestled for Puerto Rico and lost his only match, 3-1, to the Ecuadorian who took bronze. These Pan Am championships matter for international seeding points, including for the Olympics, so we took them seriously. However, the real event is this weekend--the Pan Am Olympic Qualifier tournament. All 18 Olympic weights will wrestle until there is a Top 2, who will qualify their country for that given weight at the Olympics this summer. Nations who already qualified at a given weight by placing Top 5 at the 2023 Worlds will not have an entry at that weight. Nick Lee will attempt to qualify us for the Olympics at 65kg and Kayla Miracle will attempt to qualify us at 62kg, where neither was successful in placing Top 5 at 2023 Worlds. Jacob Moran will once again compete for Puerto Rico as well. In addition to Lee at freestyle 65 and Kayla at women's 62, the U.S. will also attempt to qualify 57kg in freestyle, all 6 weights of Greco, and 53kg and 68kg in women's. Kayla's gold at the regular Pan Am Championships was important because she took the head-to-head gold medal match from the Canadian in a nail biter, 6-6. This gives Kayla the #1 seed and puts her opposite both the very tough Canadian and a very tough Brazilian in the Olympic Qualifier event. There is no True 2nd, so it paves the way for a much easier path to winning in the semi-finals and guaranteeing our place at the Olympics. Even if Nick and Kayla qualify the weights for us, they have to come through our Olympic Trials in April like everyone else to be our representatives this summer.

    Freestyle and Greco Season

We would like to, but it's difficult when Freestyle/Greco season is the same as spring sports season, of which 99% of our kids do a spring sport.

  22. I know CG has a lot of Freestyle and Greco participation. I believe we sent 7 juniors and cadets last year to Fargo. All of them medaled at IHSAA state except 1 who lost in the blood round at Semi State. Nothing beats mat time and working on your feet. Greco is a whole different tool bag that can make the difference in a tight match.

We've gotten spoiled since then with a steady stream of 3- and 4-timers highly ranked in America. But before that, they almost never happened. When Tsirtsis and Maurer stepped on the mat at weights bigger than 103, smashing everyone from Day 1; it was literally the first time any of us had ever seen anything like it. Now we see kids like Shepherd and Kincaide, and we're like, "Nice. Kid's got potential." That era was a true renaissance for our state, that's for sure.

With three quarters of his work at Catherdral, Brandon Wright should be considered there, not WC. Of course, in 2 years Waylon Cressel very well may Have 3 Indiana titles to take the WC belt.

Just like the Iranian untying his shoe to catch a breather, there was no rule against it. There is no rule against it but we have all seen wrestlers use injury time to get out of a bad position and/or catch a breather. I don't know the answer but it definitely needs to be looked at.
