Kudos to the coaches, staff and volunteers at Center Grove for stepping in for Carmel after the boiler explosion to host this year's event. The school hosted a swimming/diving event and IHSWCA MS State! Weigh ins went well! Matches started at/around 9:10am 14 full mat surfaces going at same time (table help and referees-- no problem!) Most weight classes are finished by 4:30pm! It's going to be very interesting over the next few years watching all these young hammers that will flow into Crown Point, Center Grove, Penn, Castle & #Brownsburg. Very deep fields in most weight classes!2 points -

First off I want to let everyone know I usually do not read threads on here and I just now signed up to be able to post because it sickens me to see these “likes” and comments! While I do not condone the issue of using plastics, I also do not know the full story on what recently took place at Carmel High School, nor do any of you! It makes me sad that I see such negative comments towards my high school coach, knowing he has done SO much for many programs and for the state of Indiana. I am not going to sit here and tell you that I have agreed with everything Coach P has done, there have been times we haven’t seen things eye to eye.....But I am not going to forget everything else he stands for and the many improvements he has brought to the wrestling community in Indiana. Nobody is perfect! We all make mistakes, some more public than others. It saddens me to see so many people that have reaped the benefits of his presence in wrestling get on this thread and bash him and “like” derogatory comments about him. Coaching isn’t easy and dealing with most parents does NOT make it fun. One of the fundamental rules I live my life by is “never kick a man when he is down”. I will put aside my thoughts and opinions and I CHOOSE to reach out and anyone who is down I try to help them rise again and become better! One bad decision does not define you!!! It is when you are down you will find your true friends, I am here for P. Writing thoughtless posts on message boards while hiding behind a keyboard is also a great way to burn bridges ..... something else I try very hard never to do! Leroy Vega2 points -

That was one of many great matches. I was surprised AC won without a closer margin with not having 106 or 113 today. 7 different schools with a champion was great to see as well.1 point -

Just curious, would it be possible to use both channels to cover all the mats say like semi state? I know that probably takes more people than available as you need two more announcers and camera guys to do so besides enough media room at host event. It would be awesome if the IHSAA would give you access to the finals. Great job though, and I even watched roundball tonight for a bit.1 point -

Not a fluke. 2 Big strong HWTs with much respect for one another and it went Muncie's way today. Hopefully we see the grudge match (Leeper won 1st match) next week at Regionals!1 point -
Thoughts: Chad Red doesn't appear to be improving at all and has lost to every significant opponent this year. It appears to be only a matter of time until IU passes Purdue up. Angel has brought a totally different vibe. There's still a lot of straight on offense and guys struggling to create action, but I can see a definite change in the program. Micic looks like a champion to me. Poised and calm, he's straight up wrecking guys. He's on a Hodge type trajectory. He's 9-0 with 2 Falls, 2 TF, 3 Majors. The way he broke Pletcher was impressive.1 point

Here are Genius POTENTIAL ratings for 2019. Remember that these ratings are 100% points-based, not wins/losses based. In general, they are a better predictor of true talent and future success than wins/losses based ratings. However, in some cases of significantly different schedule strength between two teams, there is more variance to how intuitive the ratings come out. The edition below includes every dual and tournament result on IndianaMat for the whole season. The difference in points between two teams is roughly the point difference by which the higher rated team would be expected to win a dual. The foundational algorithm used for these ratings is one of the main baseline algorithms used for setting Vegas point spreads and professional and college sports computer ratings. If so I guess it works to keep them at that weight since the proof is already there. But if the qualifying weigh-ins are not meet before I’d think a possible right/fair solution is to bump them up a weight class where it can be assured they would have made weight legally. I’m not a big proponent of kicking them out completely, but adhere to the same weight management guidelines they other wrestler are getting dinged for due only barely missing a small qualifying weight range. Sure re-adjust some of the weight class seeds if you want to make sure it doesn’t hurt the brackets integrity by having them draw into top seeds (yes I know that take awhile I’ve been to the meetings). But at least ensure qualifying weight is proven like other wrestlers/coaches have had to do since that’s such an emphasis by the IHSAA. It sounds like from another thread at least one kid was moved brackets likely due to a qualifying weigh-in issue, so logic would say treat this issue similarly.1 point

Anyone else find it weird that this guy created an account just to call for the suspension of wrestlers?1 point

I posted this on another thread on Facebook recently, but we are wrestling newbies as a family. One thing I have never understood is the entire weigh-in process to begin with, moreso from an efficiency standpoint than any other reason...but if the sport was really serious about weight programs then this solution I thought about makes sense. If I ruled the world then everyone would weigh in mat-side. Have one of those old school scales set to the proper weight for that mat. Have each wrestler step on the scale when they are on-deck. If the scale goes to the fatso side (the side I am most familiar with) then sorry, you forfeit. If it stays on the skinny side, then get ready to wrestle. All the sudden the self-policing and wrestling at actual weight would become a lot more serious if not making weight EACH match was a concern. If kids had to cut and keep it off all tournament long then they would either wrestle like crap or feel awful, both of which should be de-motivators. But I know, I know..."THAT'S NOT HOW I DID IT! I WORE A SUIT UNDER A TRASH BAG WITH MY MULLET TUCKED IN THE BACK IN THE 80S AND I WAS TOUGH BECAUSE OF IT!!" I get it. Just seems like this scenario takes all gamesmanship out of it. I also realize it will never be adopted ever. Which has told me that any "guidelines" are moreso to satisfy lawyers than something most actual wrestling folks actually care about.1 point
