Many people look at this shirt and just see a referee/official’s uniform. Very few people look at this shirt and see what it really is - pure dedication, strength, and nerve. They don’t see what goes on behind the scenes. Days away from families and one’s home, countless hours of studying, analyzing and reanalyzing one’s own calls, reading and re-reading the rule book, countless hours on the phones with other officials to ask questions and mentor each other, hours and their own money dedicated to associations and trying to make the world of officiating a better place. What people think they see: “a horrible official”, “someone who doesn’t know the rules”, “a biased official who “clearly” has it out for their team”, “someone who should never be able to be an official”. To those people who sit in the stands or sit behind their computer screens or phones making these comments – I encourage you to try it. Sitting in the stands or on the couch and making the calls is the easy route. Because you have the ability to be right or wrong with no consequences. The official out there on the mat, field, or court has to be right all the time (which is subjective to your eyes, your team, and your desired outcome, instead of the rules). I encourage you take the official’s test. Take it and you will see that you didn’t pass because you don’t know as much about the sport as you thought you did. And when you do fail, use it as motivation to join an association, read and study the rule book, and then take the test again. After taking the test (probably multiple times), maybe just maybe you will pass. And if you do pass, then go ahead and put on the uniform, muscle up the nerve and strength to actually become an official and step out into the center mat, court, or field. Every sport is in need of more officials. The number of officials and number of younger people wanting to be officials has greatly decreased. Why? Probably because it is an extremely difficult position to be put in, and all you get in return is constant hate. To the fans – I am not asking you not to root for your team. Root and scream for your team! If you don’t like a call, boo it, and then move on! What I am asking, is please be more respectful in person or online. Officials walk out to a game or match knowing that by the end of it they will have one side hating and degrading them. They are required to make the tough calls over and over again, calls that will upset one side or the other. It is a lose-lose situation regardless of the outcome. So why do they do it? My guess would be for the love of the sport. Officials are humans, with families- wives, husbands, and children, with friends, with homes, other careers, and feelings. They are people. Real people. Who, after everything that they do, still have to listen and read horrible comments from people who wouldn’t dare or have enough courage or knowledge to step out into the fire. Yet these officials have enough dedication and nerve to continuously step out onto the mat, court, field, etc… over and over and over again because they love what they do and they love the sport. They are truly relentless. Are they always perfect? Probably not. They are humans, in a world of sports where rules are ever changing and evolving. They are dedicated, and every official that I know uses every call, match, game, and outcome as a learning experience, whether good or bad. Officiating is one of the most difficult and thankless jobs that I can think of. So to every official out there – THANK YOU. Thank you for doing everything that you do so that the world can enjoy the thrill and excitement of sports. Thank you for the brotherhood and sisterhood that you provide each other, and for becoming each other’s lifelong friends and family. Thank you for giving up countless hours and days away from your families. Thank you for continuing to put yourself out there over and over again regardless of all of the negative feedback and comments/posts from spectators. Thank you for the time and energy that you dedicate into your craft, so that we, as spectators, can sit, watch, and enjoy the sports that we love.5 points -

Here we go - toughest Regional in the state with a couple Powerhouse teams. Brownsburg will win the team title but it will be a fight. I got to witness Center Grove at sectionals and they wont go down without a fight. 106 - Will it be a rematch of the sectional final or will Larocca change that? He puts up a fight but it will be a Avon sectional rematch. Rioux, Hockaday, Larocca, Leonard 113 - 50/50 match Goss/Ash ... going with Goss. Haines, Goss, Bickel, Ash 120 - Exciting class here!! Courntey looked solid at sectional but can he take down Miller .... good match coming but Miller just too much for the rest of the class here. Syra with a tough first round with Bechert but he gets through. Miller, Courtney, Syra, McFeeley 126 - Wyss with the upset of the day last weekend at Mooresville!! Haines/Hott tough first round but Haines too much. Butler comes back on a mission. Butler, Haines, Tharpe, Wyss 132 - Another epic meeting with Ison/Schoeff ... cant wait. Brooks looked good last week and could give Ison a test but Ison just too much for him. Its a 50/50 finals match! Schoeff, Ison, Brooks, Kresja 138 - Granditnetti looked solid last week but again the brownsburg pain train just too much here. Garcia, Grandinetti, Stansberry, Hicks 145 - Watson on a collision course with Koontz for the title. Watson, Garcia, Oliver, Spears 152 - Ciccerelli, Merritt, Barger, Oyebode 160 - Hutchison / Ison is the 50/50 match here, Hutchison fresh off a sectional win pulls it out but Ison will make it fun to watch. Also never count out a Boe or a Rioux come tournament time. Wonder what the injury status is on Weems?? Boe, Hutchison, Ison, Weems 170 - Some young guns hi-light this weight class and looking forward to the finals match here, I have that one as my 50/50 match. Clouser, Brewer, Leclerc, Denny 182 - Buchanan and then everyone else, he is fun to watch and appears unstoppable. Buchanan, Henry, Farmer, Bullock 195 - Weakest weight class at the regional but will make for some interesting matchups. Allen, Crump. Leavell, Lapadat 220 - Mooresville sectional sweep here ... I would pick Oliver over Skaggs but Skaggs just seems to have his number, still a 50/50 match imo. Skaggs, Deckard, Oliver, Gaston 285 - Jones (Brownsburg variety) will take this one, finals match should be a good one but Jones too much. L. Jones, J. Johnson, N. Johnson, Williams4 points -

I agree with the assessments offered on team potentials for next year but also remember that South Adams only had three seniors in their Sectional lineup and no forfeits. In addition, they have some pretty fair eight graders2 points -
From some prior years they try if at all possible to have it on Saturday even if it’s delayed until late in the afternoon. I know in the past there have been a couple cases of schools not letting their team travel, but that event was asked to continue anyway later that day due to the majority of participants being allowed by their school to attend. After some arguing I believe the IHSAA allowed the highest placement participate to receive a special next round wrestle but it was for the final placement spot which created an unfair situation all around. So hopeful it doesn’t come to that if at all possible. If there is still a city/county safety issue it could be postponed until one of the weeknights. But remember it’s Indiana weather, so it could end up being warm and sunny by the end of the week. On a side note, if a school is out due to weather just remember that in itself does not automatically give everyone a 1lb allowance at the event. The team as to not be able to have an official practice at any time during that day for the allowance to go into effect. If that’s the case a representative from that school should contact the tournament director explaining the situation and they would need to inform the rest of the schools of an allowance. So don’t have the wrestlers get all excited if your local country school is out on Friday, because they may still be able to host a perceive by that evening if the school system allows it.2 points

Yeah, I think she is making believers out of a lot of people. My son, Easton and her had wrestled against each other when they were little so I saw her back then and knew she would be good. You just don't know until she gets on the mat with the high school boys but she has done very well and she is such a great kid too.2 points

There are several smaller schools in the CP Sectional that have produced very successful wrestlers such as: Hanover Central, Lowell, Wheeler, and KV. Yes, the competition only gets harder in Regionals: Chesterton, LaPorte, Valparaiso, New Prarie ect.2 points

No one is condoning bad behavior. The issue is the official had history similar to this prior with the same coaching staff. I'm an AC fan, so it was a benefit for the school I follow, but it was a bad call. (Not going to find much love for the Bellmont fans & coaching staff from me, but I will wish their wrestlers best of luck because they are local kids.) My issue is more with the system (IHSAA) & lack of technology being used today. Since it's hard to get officials, it wouldn't hurt to get technology to review calls. If you can stream a webcast and have at least 1 if not 2 radio stations broadcasting, then you can surely have replay. If you can't tell, I'm not a big fan of the IHSAA, OHSAA, & NFHS as a whole. A lot could be done to move into the 21st century in their regards.2 points -
Stalling Question
BrodyHardcastle and one other reacted to Coach Brobst for a topic
Diving in on a leg with no intent to score is indeed stalling and should be called as such. However, if the kid has a shin whizzer and there is no chance of improvement, should probably be a quick Stalemate and go again. If the kid dove under again after a stalemate and didn’t try to finish, then maybe hit a stall.2 points -

I look for Amento to win at 132. He and Fortune are fun to watch. 145 is wide open. Team Kemper will re-tool and win the re-match. Dad and brother both look like they could go six right now. Happe is my favorite at 182. He has to get through Martin first. Look out! Thanks to "the powers that be" for restoring the Castle Regional to Castle. Our friends from Paradise are fantastic hosts. BlueBolt, the Man could only keep you down for so long. I would be remiss if i did not hype their concessions. Potatoes as big as your head.1 point -

Nice job ladies. But sorry calling it “seeds” past Sectional is a pet peeve of mine. For the rest of the tournament forward they are not “seeds,” but rather earned placement positions based on how they finished in the previous tournament. A earned separation criteria if you prefer, since their will be two 1st, two 2nd, two 3rds, and two 4th in each regional bracket.1 point -

Stalling Question
lemercad reacted to X_R A T E D for a topic
Here's a picture for reference on the original post. I would understand if the opponent getting shot on did nothing and the offensive wrestle put his hips to the mat. But in this situation, the wrestler defending a shot from neutral is in good position and not allowing any advancement in position.....so a stalemate should always be called in this situation. This position stayed the same with no advancement for 14 seconds and then stalling was called on the wrestler who took the shot1 point -
the 106 is going to be crazy at Fort Wayne1 point
-
I would say pretty good but draw will definitely be important. At 106 without disrespecting the kids at each Semi State but believe she would want to draw into New Castle on Friday Night1 point
-
The wrestler taking the shot is putting himself in danger by taking the shot, even if he is hanging to the leg and not doing anything from the neutral position. In this case he is the aggressor and a stalemate would be warranted.1 point
