    Team State draw

Norwell had two starters out, I believe...one for sure, but that being said, it doesn't mean results change, and yeah, Oak HIll deserved in. Oak Hill is always solid and will continue to be solid with the continuity in the program. You'll be back! ... 2a was tough this year top to bottom, which I'm sure didn't make things easy on the rankers/seeders/vote in. IMO it's really hard to seed 2a because of stereotypes, such as "They don't wrestle anybody." Teams can only control their schedule to a certain extent, with conference by laws. How do you compare a 20-0 team who has wrestled teams to be perceived as below average, compared to maybe a 15-4 team, who has wrestled a really tough schedule? It's hard to do. We've been under seeded, and over seeded. It happens. It's a tough job, but I think you all do a great job and I'm happy we have this awesome tournament!

  4. 1980-1985 Delta High School won five state titles in a row. '87 and '88 Bellmont won back to back titles. '90 Muncie Southside won. Bellmont won again in '94. I'll name a few guys from the City of Fort Wayne who are the True Legends of Fort Wayne Wrestling. These places indicate high school only. If we counted college Wagner and Vaughn are the clear 1 and 2. 1. 7. Seeing all those names from the 80s and 90s are awesome. Muncie South had some great wrestlers, and they are still some great guys. A couple years ago a group of them came up to Decatur to play in our Bellmont golf outing. It was a blast seeing those guys.

  9. Colin Kelly is back for MC. Hopefully we see the rematch with Cody as that was the best match of the meet last year. Last weekend MC's 113 pounder ,Seth Mendoza , chased down the #1 Illinois ranked 126 pounder and beat him 13-5. Will he do it again to face Indiana's #1 ranked Logan Frazier? Sounds like Sergio Lemley may be back in the line up tonight. Does MC spare him the weight cut and let him wrestle up at 152? Lemley vs Rinehart, Sergio would be giving up a lot of size but we know how fearless he is. There is potential for some colossal matchups tonight. I hope the coaches get creative and let the fur fly.

  17. - Jackson Bratcher from Eastbrook wasn't the best from our SS but he was still really good. (SQ, 3rd, 4th) -Chad Barrett from Eastern is also underrated, he went SQ, 6th, and 3rd. - Fletcher Miller from Kokomo went (2,2 and a 2x fargo AA) with A LOT of wins.

  19. Thank you, Coach, for posting the pics. Also congratulations on your season, even though there is a lot of work yet to do. I personally did not take any pics. I recorded the events on my friend's tablet for him so that he and his family could focus on their sons big night under the lights. Galagore, there did not seem to be any safety concerns with the wrestling on the stage. I don't know the exact dimensions of the New Prairie stage, but there seemed to be plenty of room. On a side note, I predict NP to have 4 at state, 3 placers, 1 finalist.

  24. Of course I know. Rico and I went to college together and I graduated high school the same year as his older brother Tino( who never won state but was still a very good wrestler). John Sewell is like family. Little known fact: He is the uncle of James Starks State Champ from Northrop and my guy "Weak".

  30. More reasons for the IHSAA to get off their a** and do something productive in recognizing this tournament. It would grow the sport, but this being Indiana, that's not what the IHSAA wants. They want to grow basketball instead, but they're killing that too. Football is growing just because the popularity is growing in the country and throughout the world, not due to the IHSAA. Not just the IHSAA, but the OHSAA next door and others are screwing this up as well. Both fall under the NFHS and going through their "training" material, I can see why. Just think in terms of the federal government and state governments and how they've been failing too!

  32. While still in the growth phase, I'd argue in favor of keeping up to two per weight class . . . at least until we get to a three stage sectional/regional/state construct. Right now this is about building numbers and with the vast majority of competitors in the 113-138 range, it seems premature to limit. My five cents (two cents, adjusted for inflation).

    Team State draw

Ha...very funny. Here's something wrong: Times the qualification process has gotten every deserving team correct: 0% By contrast: Times an all-in event gives everyone a shot: 100% of the time. I'm fully with you for the idea of having a watchlist of teams that can be filtered toward regionalized super duals if they don't get into Team State. I think if zero teams are pre-chosen, it really could end up being more like 25+ teams in some classes some years that want to be considered. That means there would need to be regionalized super dual hosts pre-committed and organized to host something like 50 teams that don't get into Team State. Isn't the challenge that you need hosts and backup hosts (for the "consolation" super duals) set up in case a given host site's team gets into Team State? And then how do you contract officials and plan an invitational site if it's a "maybe" site until mid-December? I think these have been the nature of the hangups when we all start to talk through these ideas every year. How could we get past those issues?

  34. It has not been posted as yet but we have another great wrestler and coach, Paul Gunsett. I will leave the accolades to my Decatur friends but let me say as an outside admirer, I watched Paul wrestle in the kids program, coached against him in High School and coached against him when he led his alma maters, Bellmont. He has always been a class act.

He was one of the nicest guys out there, always respectable and easy to be respected. He is a loss to the Wrestling community and the Bellmont program. My condolences to his family and community. I will miss our wrestling jokes to each other at the state meet!

It’s my first season as a head coach, at the NE8 duals against Bellmont they rotated coach Gunsett into the corner during our dual meet. I’ll never forget that feeling of emotions I had inside for that and a feeling of pride/honor to sit opposite of him! My condolences on behalf of the DeKalb Wrestling family to the Gunsetts and the Bellmont community.

They only have two heavies and both are hurt right now. Coppas has been hurt and I think Ruhlman got hurt at the Scuffle. It would be cool if Mo Omonode would ever want to come to the room and try out wrestling again.

South Adams definitely Came and showed they belong!! One thing I found very interesting is the gap in the 1A and 2A and even 3A this year is not big. Rochester beat Western earlier this season by 3, as well as Cascade beating Hamilton Heights by 1. The top 4 in 1A I think can easily compete with any 2A and I think any 3A school based on some results. Love seeing the small schools continue to grow and compete with the big dogs!
