Great sportsmanship at the state finals
Coach Brown and 17 others reacted to TheCountyKid for a topic
Just came across this picture of Montgomery from Brownsburg talking to Heath from Leo after their match. I know a lot of these guys who wrestle each other are practicing together all the time and it’s amazing to see how much they respect each other. Does anyone else have any pictures or examples of instances like this?18 points -
SEMI-STATE: Upsets, Key Matches, Etc.
SIACfan and 17 others reacted to Coach Kearby II for a topic
If you don't like how Indiana runs the tournament series, then move back to your former state. Everyone agrees we need wrestlebacks, but to call "some" state qualifiers below average is not right. They earned their trip to state and I don't think any of the 224 competing next week are less than average. Kyler Kearby Tippecanoe Valley Coach to one of those "below average" wrestlers I am sure you are referring to.18 points -

First and foremost, another great season wrestlers. Thank you and to our Seniors, I wish you the best in your next journey. You have not disappointed. 106- ACTION Jackson was all business from the get go. This sophomore is going to be fun to watch the next couple years. 113- 4X time state placer and now 2X time CHAMP wasn’t about to be denied. Junior Ruble wrestles hard and as a junior, we will see him again next year for some more excitement. 120-Great hand fighting while on their feet. But Lemley was just too much on top. So me being the mother of one of his opponents of course I'm going to root for my kid.. But I would just like to say Jesse is an amazing wrestler and even better individual.. Jace did not finish his high school career quite like he wanted do to an injury he couldn't control happened and Jesse by no means had to reach out to him but he did. Jesse I don't know if you will see this but I would like to thank you and congratulate you on your 3rd 1st place finish! We love watching you wrestle and wish you the best in the future!15 points -

Way Too Early State Predictions
Jayruss and 13 others reacted to TysonNisley for a topic
As a freshman in college, this will be my first year looking at the state tournament as a fan rather than a competitor, and I thought that maybe I'd make some predictions way early on to see how well I can do. I am going to state my top 3 picks in each weight class, as well as my reasoning for each of those picks, as well as a dark horse in each weight class (these aren't necessarily guys that I believe are top 3 candidates, but rather guys that I believe will place well above their ranking when we get to the state finals). Feel free to argue my picks, and maybe throw some other potential dark14 points -
Evansville Central Sectional Preview
boilergrappler and 13 others reacted to hook and half for a topic
The Evansville Central Sectional—long considered as one of the toughest in the State—seems to be a bit down in 2021. That being said, do not forget it is populated by the 4A team champions, Mater Dei, and soon-to-be-perennial powerhouse, North Posey. Following one of the weirdest years in Grandmother’s history, wrestling follows suit. Consider that North Posey declined to complete for a PAC championship, while Mater Dei won the SIAC title—with 13 JV wrestlers. At any rate, the Central sectional still promises much excitement, fireworks…and some upsets. Mater Dei has14 points -

BEWrestling and 13 others reacted to Matt Time for a topic
Comparing official high school events and some of the "club" level events operated by third parties is like comparing apples and oranges. At one pre-season club event I attended that had all age groups, duals and individual there were WAAAAAY too many people. Snot nosed tikes running about, grandparents in wheelchairs, people crowding the mats, etc. Even in a non-pandemic year, these things sometimes feel like a loosely organized prison fight. On the opposite end of the spectrum, all of the official high school events we've participated in have been well organized. Attendance limit14 points -

gsmith58 and 12 others reacted to QuinnHarris for a topic
Everyone has their opinion. First I must thank Indiana Wrestling for allowing us a season when many other states did not. In August if you would've asked me about a season I would have told you there was no chance well happily I was proven wrong today. I will say as a former wrestler and now a coach YES, the system sucks, kids don't get the shine they deserve, but its is the system we have had for how many years? You can bash the IHSAA all you want but every school and every kid is playing under the same rules, top 4 advance. Are some semi states not as deep as others, sure. Are some weights n13 points -
While I don't agree with any of this situation. My son is that "South Carolina" kid. I did everything right. It took until Dec 23rd for him to get eligible. Sorry for moving my family back to where I grew up because I'm retiring from military service. I don't agree with what happened to Christian, but keep my son out of your grievances.13 points

Just a reminder, when we are posting and commenting on the forum. Let’s remember that our opinions are just that. Good debating and different perspectives it’s what makes this an amazing outlet. But , let’s remember that when we are talking about minors , someone’s kid. We need to be better. We don’t know everyone situation and let’s not assume Bc reality is we are all bias. Our own experience and positions gives our own perspective. Stating that you don’t agree with someone’s perspective, story , motives is one thing. But calling them liars, or claiming your own perspective is the correct one12 points -

My hat goes off to this kid and I had the pleasure of watching him all the way from Texas for 4 years. This kid could’ve went up once he saw Mendez was in his weight class, but instead he stuck around and competed like the warrior he is! He gave Mendez his most competitive match all year and earned his respect. He’s on my Mt. Rushmore of favorite MD wrestlers and I know the kid will go on to do great things in the future. Once again thank you Blake Boarman it was a pleasure watching you compete for past 4 years!11 points -

Without knowing all the background and discussions.. Accepting transfers while at the same time denying a young man and his family from transferring away from your school seems very bush-league. You may hate it in the short term as a coach, but in the end you can never feel too bad letting a young man participate in a sport and your reputation will be better in the long run11 points -

My diabetes is under control. My blood pressure is normal. My heart is stronger. I’ve been cleared to wrestle in practice. Thanks FC Fighter and Caleb Spires. BigBaller B and FW1996. Without that thread I don’t know if I would’ve made it. The wrestling community is irreplaceable and magnanimous! Much love and light to everyone. wrestler32 and 9 others reacted to Coach Peck for a topic
A slam is a judgement call., The big part of what the rule states is that when someone picks the other person up they are responsible for their safe return to the mat. The safe return is purely the responsibility of the offensive wrestler, and there is no requirement for the defender to protect himself. Years ago there was the criteria that the offensive wrestler had to hit a knee first, but that was discarded a long time ago. The slam is a needed call in wrestling because it keeps someone from intentionally drilling someone to win a match, or to make it harder for the opponent to compete.10 points -

It doesn't matter if random fans remember who a "champion" is. It matters to the kids that win and their schools. High school athletics should not be about the wins and losses, it NEEDS to be about building up great kids to be GREATER adults. More kids participating in wrestling or other sports will never be a bad thing. Right now our participation is on a sharp decline and we need to get it back to a solid level. To what degree do we need to kill our sport to realize that this one true champion thing is detrimental to the sport? Do we have to lose 25 teams? 50 teams, 100? How man9 points -

Yes, I graduated from a "Big" school (Mishawaka) where wrestling was/is a top sport for that community. We won Team State back when we had an IHSAA Team State, multiple times. I coached there for 2 years and then moved on to a "smaller" school (Jimtown). At Jimtown I had no inclination that anything was different. The same mindset and "Team" aspect was preached everyday. Individual successes came along with the success of the team. So, with the development of the classed team state tournament, it helped gain traction with younger kids at the middle school and elementary level. We w9 points

Evansville.. without a doubt. Eville has several kids who won't make it to state but could win other semi states or be favored to place top four in other semi states. Maybe the IHSAA will redistrict and break up the teams heading south for February. This year Evansville has the top two 1A teams, #19 2A team, five of the top 10 3A teams, three of the top nine 4A teams. Lets give West Lafayette the ECC semi state and send some Evansville teams up there! Looking at the state map, literally, the entire south of Indy goes to one semi state but the north has two and east side has one. I understand9 points

When Jace beat Gavin, I told my wife that it was going to be Jesse and Jace in the finals. Sad that he didn’t get to finish the tournament. Hopefully he is doing better today. Although I’m disappointed I didn’t win the fastest thumb and acquire tickets to championship Saturday, the first time in over a decade, I’m proud to be a part of supporting, encouraging, teaching, coaching and influencing the sport of wrestling. Proud to be a mentor. Proud to be a role model. Proud to be involved in a sport and lifestyle that carries on well past the day they wrestle for a championship, or the day they get their first win, but the day they are proud of themselves, the day they gain the confidence to face their fears and overcome their insecurities. This epitomizes what I love so much about Indiana's state tournament. I love watching the placement matches. The pressure is off at that point and the kids just seem to wrestle loose and get after it. So much fun. The year my oldest son placed 3rd was one of the most fun experiences of my life. He won with a last second takedown that at first was a no call, but after deliberation, he was awarded the two... And the crowd went wild. It was awesome! Of course, last year's headlock from his younger brother was about 7 seconds of absolute pandemonium that I still haven't fully recovered7 points -
