I am conflicted whether we should be able to allow 16 or 14 entries, but feel if we would allow 2 entries at a weight class that it would be great for our sport. For simplicity sake, allowing 14 wrestlers with up to 2 per weight will help small schools more than hurt them. That would mean if they have 14 or less wrestlers they would likely be able to enter all of them at sectional. Many times those small teams have a couple JV kids that can't make the lineup due to being blocked by others. They get very limited matches and it is very hard to keep them engaged when they get limited matches. Coaches would be able to dangle the carrot of being able to wrestle at sectional which should help with retention and building their programs. Obviously this would lead to come interesting discussions at the top schools also. For instance we all know Center Grove has two very talented big guys. Would Swain insert Schott into the lineup and leave someone else at home? As a coach this would mean some uneasy conversations, but would be great for those teams to be able to insert their top 14 guys.4 points

Regional Brackets
Steve Smith and one other reacted to casualwrestlingfan for a topic
I mean a round where they definitely could institute wrestle backs would be my hill to die on. However if you want yours to be bracket releases of known match ups barring injury, illness, or etc then so be it. To each their own. When you have no pig tails or just 8 participants instead of 16 at the round, I cannot justify single elimination in the first round.2 points -

Lots of forfeits
MUSKEEWRESTLER reacted to Y2CJ41 for a topic
Not knowing specifics but things do happen. On top of that if you have a kid that is questionable you MUST put him in the bracket at the seed meeting if you don't have a backup. You cannot insert a wrestler for a forfeit on Saturday morning.1 point -
Mendez vs Lemley...not
MUSKEEWRESTLER reacted to maligned for a topic
In the long run, people won't look back at results and care about duals. But I was in the arena. A Big 10 rivalry in a standing-room only crowd of 4500 in an arena designed for wrestling with both teams putting out their best possible lineups is one of the most electric environments there is in wrestling anywhere in the world. It sucked seeing Davison get upset at the end, but having an entire dual in that environment come down to a last-second upset takedown for the home team was an unbelievable moment to witness.1 point -

buckpatrol reacted to maligned for a topic
I don't think there's much to debate here, you're right. Michigan could travel with 3 subs, Lemley failed the skin check, UM didn't have a sub at his weight, and that forfeit gave OSU the dual, 20-19.1 point -
Hate it for the fans, like me. I know ducking is “in” now but it is hard thing to debate not knowing facts of these matters. Wrestling is a contact sport. So many minor things can blossom into something that will get worse before it gets better and if you keep aggravating it you’ll never heal enough to be at peak. A tight rope to walk for athletes and coaches.1 point
