  2. Thank you to all the folks responsible for such a great day of wrestling yesterday. Whether you are the folks that provide individual rankings, team rankings, team seeding, event organization, or the REFEREES, coaches and wrestlers, days like yesterday reward all those growing this sport in Indiana. Thank you to the IHSWCA for creating this event and not only continuing the team state opportunities for all these teams, but also showing a better use for “basketball” courts . . .

  3. Did we choke? Yea, we certainly could have been a lot better today, but I also think Terre Haute South was a heck of a lot better than an 8 seed and we were over seeded. We still didn’t wrestle up to our seed though. Look where they finished and look where we finished. Does seeding change brackets and where we finish, probably not with how we wrestled today. THS is tough and have a heck of a program. Their guys came to wrestle and beat us up first round, no doubt. We weren’t ready to wrestle and it showed, but that’s why this tournament is great for all these teams, it’s tough and shows many teams deserve the recognition of their hard work. You have an #8 seed knock off a #1 and a last minute voted in #4 Columbus East battle through and make it to the finals against a solid #2 Mishawaka. No excuses, we have to do better, if we want to win a team title. Hats off to THS for knocking us off, Columbus East for showing they deserved to be there with the vote in with a runner up finish and to Mishawaka for taking home the title. The doors is open if you want to come help coach these guys up. I know I can always improve as a coach and could use some more knowledge.

Fort Wayne Snider should have been invited to 3A state. I don't know who makes those decisions ,but next year I'm guessing; you won't be able to keep us out. Matter of fact I'll make a prediction we'll be seeded #1.

  5. It’s a tough job to seed and I don’t think there is any intent to “shaft” any team. While pathways to the top might be enhanced by seeding, results are the products of performance. Yesterday teams and individuals proved that statement. The “vote in” process came up big yesterday, looking at Greenfield Central and the late addition of Columbus East and if I may offer my “Humble” opinion, South Adams in 1A. SA was a number 12 vote in and finished fifth with 7 Freshmen in the lineup and only 2 seniors.

  6. Brownsburg and Crown Point has wrestled 3-4 state championship level events this year. They have 0 undeated wrestlers. Will pay dividends. If you have a high level age group kid = better of traveling every other weekend to find competition than staying local. It is like kissing your sister - you wrestle the same kids. Lots of kids will benefit more in a good room practice -then traveling sitting in a gym all day to wrestle 3 time for 2 minutes.

  7. THS as a whole is an underrated team. They might not have the fire power, but their floor was impressively high across the line-up today. Much tougher than an 8 seed… CE was a great vote-in, battling to the finals. A few good/bad breaks going the other way could have changed A LOT of things today; but that’s why we wrestle the matches. Roncalli is still a great team with great coaches who will only get better after today.

  11. me you Roncalli Grow up, Peter Pan/Count Chocula. If 8 over 1 upsets weren’t possible, we wouldn’t invite 8 teams. Congrats to Roncalli on a fifth place showing. I would have loved to have that, as they took it to us Brickies in the place match.

Champs 4A- Crown point (also Center Grove3rd, Cathedral4th, Penn 6th) 3A- Mishawaka (Columbus East2nd, Hobart6th) 2A- Western (Garrett6th, Bellmont7th, Wawasee9th) 1A- 6th Prarie Heights all attend Al Smith this year, 3 of the 4 champs. Might need to invite Tell City in the future. All teams looking, message Mishawaka about attending 2023 a good way to get Battle Tested before the Team State

  13. Most impressive to me as I watched 4A State Championships . 1. Crown Point - Didn’t skip a beat from its record 2022 IHSAA State Championship run . Proved they’re probably gonna make a run at their own record . 2. Parker Reynolds - was I watching a lil’ Zain Rutherford with these tight tilts . Kid a freshman, wait till he gets man strength around his Jr. Year. I’ll take a skilled wrestling technician over a pinner everyday. That’s just me . 3. Center Grove - Larocca (spell check) what an impressive comeback win over Brownsburg . Kid has a gas tank like no other. Didn’t give up being down 5-0 in the late 2nd & 3rd periods . My Comeback of the Day Wrestler . Wow ! 4. Logan Frazier- made it look easy all day. Not sure he broke a sweat. He’s ready for the next level . Cat playing with its food out there yesterday WOW ! 5. Hosiah Smith - Indiana we have a Contender at 285 . Looking forward to this match up again with Jones . Awesome match !

  15. South Adams definitely Came and showed they belong!! One thing I found very interesting is the gap in the 1A and 2A and even 3A this year is not big. Rochester beat Western earlier this season by 3, as well as Cascade beating Hamilton Heights by 1. The top 4 in 1A I think can easily compete with any 2A and I think any 3A school based on some results. Love seeing the small schools continue to grow and compete with the big dogs!

  34. A handful of notable results from the Wayne County Classic this weekend where there was some good old fashioned wrasslin’… six mats rolling with 14 or 15 teams in attendance. 106 - #7/#1 Heather Crull (Northeastern) WBD 1-0 over UR Quinten Keen (Winchester) 126 - UR Jack Davis (Bishop Chatard) WBF over #19/#5 Jesus Aquino-Morales (Union County) 132 - UR Cameron Volz (Eastern Hancock) WBD 7-1 over UR Sam Bustamante (Bishop Chatard) 138 - UR Jackson Marker (Centerville) WBD 8-4 over UR Sam Bustamante (Bishop Chatard) 160 - John Rushenberg (Bishop Chatard) WBF over UR/#7 Jordan Takara (Union County) Bishop Chatard and Beech Grove both went 8-0 in duals with BC winning on greater point differential (466). Would have been nice to have those two schools wrestle a bonus ninth round.

It was a great day of wrestling and everyone brought their best with what they had. Hope to see you all back at this great event next season, but until then, the Cadets are getting back to work! 364 days until Team State 2024!

I hear you. But I know what I'm talking about. 2 wrestler ranked in the top 5. 4 current Semi-State qualifiers. We should have at least 7 to 10 this year. Our backup 106 will be in the lineup next year and I'm telling you he is on the level. Only 2 seniors. As things sit we are #11 on the Power Poll. You coud say I'm reaching. Tell me that after Semi-State.

1A at Franklin was loud when I stepped into watch for a few minutes between our breaks. Hard to get a good venue that allows fans that close to the matches but also has the room for all. The close tight atmosphere makes it loud and crazy, but certainly has its drawbacks when it comes to seating for all.

I’ve said it before and will say it again, Tell City is the 2 time returning champions and only lost 1 senior from last year’s team. it will most definitely be a super competitive 1A tournament, but IMO the Marksmen should absolutely be the number one seed. Good luck to all of the teams next weekend.

  47. IN HIS OWN WORDS.... "It all came down to me wanting and needing a change. Indiana University is an amazing place and I will miss all of the relationships I’ve built while here but it’s time for a new adventure and a place I believe can get me to where I need to be." "I ended up choosing Rutgers for a few reasons. First and foremost I needed something different all together from scenery wise to a place where nobody knows me so I can reinvent myself in a way. Another big reason was the coaches and practice partners I would have there not only during season but in the off season for freestyle as well. Lastly the fans and people bring the energy and they love wrestling over there so it’s an opportunity I can’t pass up!" "I’ll head there after this semester and should arrive early January. Fan can expect a show every time I step on the mat. I’m excited to go out and earn their respect and their support match by match. That’s the beauty of going somewhere that nobody really knows me!"
