  3. No rules, just be glad your high school coach is in the room, many programs only have "DAD" Coaches that do the "CLUB" season. Consider yourself lucky if u have a coach wanting to improve the program!!

    Indiana Wrestling

As the Indiana high school wrestling season comes to an end…Just wanted to give a big shout out to all of the Indiana clubs and coaches. First generation wrestling family here. My boys were introduced to the sport by their uncle/cousin. Such a great sport and community! We have met so many great people and competitors. Blessed to have such a great community and support system. The boys have had club coaches from all over the state help in their corner multiple times w/ no ties to the boys whatsoever. Just there to support Indiana wrestling. Another big shout out to contenders and red cobra. Both have been home clubs w/ outstanding coaches and partners!! This forum and the wrestling community is outstanding.

  6. This is the kind of thinking that runs young posters down the rabbit hole chasing the wrong goals. Winning and losing a day and a post are un-controllable. Focus on what you can control. Become a great poster, don't try to be the best poster of the day or the week or the year. Time is fleeting, but memes are forever. If FCFighter170 was a young impressionable poster, he'd see this and just re-hash his old wins and forget what got him to this level to begin with, hard work, hyping up his boys, and weird connections through space and time. Sometimes our greatest posts aren't wins, and because of that we learn and we build. If Ontherise219 was only trying to win the day, he'd underrank CP and Brownsburg to get the people riled up. But Rise won't sink to that level.

  10. Kayla Miracle also took gold (which matters a lot..explained below). Jacob Moran wrestled for Puerto Rico and lost his only match, 3-1, to the Ecuadorian who took bronze. These Pan Am championships matter for international seeding points, including for the Olympics, so we took them seriously. However, the real event is this weekend--the Pan Am Olympic Qualifier tournament. All 18 Olympic weights will wrestle until there is a Top 2, who will qualify their country for that given weight at the Olympics this summer. Nations who already qualified at a given weight by placing Top 5 at the 2023 Worlds will not have an entry at that weight. Nick Lee will attempt to qualify us for the Olympics at 65kg and Kayla Miracle will attempt to qualify us at 62kg, where neither was successful in placing Top 5 at 2023 Worlds. Jacob Moran will once again compete for Puerto Rico as well. In addition to Lee at freestyle 65 and Kayla at women's 62, the U.S. will also attempt to qualify 57kg in freestyle, all 6 weights of Greco, and 53kg and 68kg in women's. Kayla's gold at the regular Pan Am Championships was important because she took the head-to-head gold medal match from the Canadian in a nail biter, 6-6. This gives Kayla the #1 seed and puts her opposite both the very tough Canadian and a very tough Brazilian in the Olympic Qualifier event. There is no True 2nd, so it paves the way for a much easier path to winning in the semi-finals and guaranteeing our place at the Olympics. Even if Nick and Kayla qualify the weights for us, they have to come through our Olympic Trials in April like everyone else to be our representatives this summer.

  14. This topic is also as fun as watching my best friends, the "Grateful Dead" while smoking some "Blue Dream". I love it as much as NBA Groupie girls, while sharing some edible "Gelato'. So like l always say: " You cant win championships by being normal, by just being average". So "wrestling bill Walton, who loves wrestling, but was too tall: dictates, salutes and exhortingly publishes his vote to the "poster with the moster", the :King of social media", the "meme-master" , the royal humongus of Indianamat. The anti-average, most unnormal dude on in the Gorilla kingdom, get's Wrestling Bill Walton's heavily weighted hyper influenced vote. The envelope says "Team Garcia". Note this vote wasnt influenced by one iota from me attending multiple post concert "Grateful Dead" parties, with my bestie and Team Garcia's great uncle Jerry Garcia, the greatest musician of all time. I got some stories for you dudes, like the time I took Magic Johnson to the Hollywood Bowl. But i digress.

  19. No. Are you concerned with coaches continuing to coach their high school wrestlers without giving the kids a break? Or are you worried about high school coaches coaching someone from another school? For most high school coaches, a forced downtime wouldn't be the end of the world. But right after the IHSAA State Finals is Frosh/Soph State, then USA Folkstyle State, then Freestyle season, and Freestyle State. Then Regionals. Then camps and clinics and team duals. Then, if you are lucky enough, you have a Fargo qualifier. Then more camps and clinics and practices. Then IHPO and possibly another team dual to freshen up and then high school season starts. I'm looking for that "cool down" period somewhere. August is the best hope, but now you need to get ready to compete at IHPO in September, which has turned into an absolute beast of a tournament so you better be in shape.

    Best clubs?

Columbus East Wrestling Club would almost certainly be the closest for your kids, but I'm not sure where the one near Cincinnati is. Contenders South in Greenwood Indiana would be probably the next closest. Pretty much Straight up I-65. Maurer-Coughlin in Evansville would be about the same as Contenders South from you. Those 3 would all be excellent choices, and all within a couple of hours from Louisville.

Maurer Coughlin, Contenders and Red Cobra would be a little bit longer of a drive.

    24-25 Scheduling

With the calendar rolling and looking a little different for the 24-25 season, can an IHSWCA Officer tell us if Team State will be Jan 4th or Jan 11? Also, @Ironbear do you know where the girls Regional, SS, and State series will fall in 2025?

  27. Some great Royals for sure. I was narrowing it down to 2 time qualifiers at minimum for "most accomplished", though all of these guys have an argument for "best" wrestler in HSE history. Spencer with only 1 medal, but that huge upset definitely crossed my mind. Hadn't realized Farrell qualified his Junior year, he'd be up there for sure. His kids were no slouches either (JD took 3rd for the Tigers and then Crew was a 4 time Regional Champion at Frankton). P-Rob is one of my favorite dudes in the sport, NCAA Qualifier at Purdue after his late blooming Senior year for the Royals. Neibarger was awesome. Really fun, but as you mentioned only won one medal at HSE. Pompei may qualify as most accomplished Royal in wrestling for career totality for sure when you add in his collegiate time and his coaching as well. I wasn't here for it, but according to Coach Rypel here who got teched by him his freshman year, John Tatom was the best 160 pounder in the state his senior year before tearing up his knee. As it is, he also placed 6th once for HSE prior to his career ending injury. Long story short, HSE has been way too good for way too long without having a champion. Gotta get that monkey off our back in the next 5 years.

  29. No it's to disparage the Fort Wayne semi-state as much as possibly can. Why not compare to New Castle or East Chicago? The Mooresville regional had 6 champs, 14 in the top 4, and 21 total placers. Fort Wayne had 3 champs and 12 in the top 4. New Castle had 4 champs and 10 in the top 4. East Chicago had 1 champ and 10 in the top 4. The rest of Evansville had 0 champs and 2 in the top 4. Yet here we are trying to make the Fort Wayne semi-state look bad.

  31. Feels a bit sacrilegious to not say teammate/friend Nick Crume (Q, 3, 3, 1), and while I predict he’d win the head to head more often than he’d lose, I have to choose Hunter Watts (6, 2, 1, 3) since it says “most accomplished.” Only Jimmie with a placement all four years and only to make it under the lights twice.

  34. We had a ghost nearfall in one of our matches and when I went back and watched it they were arguing about it. The ref came up to confirm and when he walked away "See I told you" the other said "Man I just didn't see it", good banter back and forth. He didn't see it b/c it literally didn't happen!
