Some quick thoughts/questions that come to mind right after reading this news.....

Soooo just not gonna fix the Mooresville (semistate) problem?

Just gonna keep two of the nation's best teams in the same regional.

How does franklin community get to move clear down to Jeffersonville.  Indian Creek goes to Bloomington. Center Grove, Greenwood, and Whiteland go to Mooresville. All from the same county.

Some sectionals still have 8 or 9 teams in it while others have 12/13.

13+13= 26 (Jennings county/ Jeffersonville)

8+9= 17 ... that's a whole sectional worth of teams difference.

Honestly I know it'll never be "perfect" just seems like a missed opportunity.

The indy school shake-up is also interesting with Cathedral and Perry/Southport.

Makes the "city tournament"  matches a little more relevant.

Poor Rochester I feel like they have moved back and forth several times. I know they are right on the border... but still.

Ft Wayne Snyder lost some hammers, Rochester leaving as a team... we will get a new semistate team champ. Jimtown?

Tippe valley and Rochester are really close.

Speaking of small team HAMMER'S  tell city goes clear up to Bloomington.... but franklin goes to Jeffersonville.

Do high-school coaches sit on this board?

Lawrenceburg should go to Evansville (maybe not)

Brownsburg should be in Ft. Wayne semistate. (Maybe not)

Gonna be fun year..... wonder how this changes the coaches association team state race.

The Indy school shake up will create a very deep regional at Perry

Perry

Warren

Greenfield Central

New Pal (gonna be really good really soon)

Mount Vernon

Lawrence North

North Central

Roncalli

Beech Grove

LC

Franklin Central plus other schools that have decent size too

How would you like to be tiny Lutheran or Triton Central, or Purdue Polytechnic?

even if Perry and Warren never return to the programs they were in 2003-2019, the sheer depth is going to make that a tough road for those teams just to make Semi-state

Maybe (emphasis on the maybe) even deeper than Mooresville overall who has

Brownsburg

Center Grove

Avon

Ben Davis

Plainfield

Decatur Central

Pike

Mooresville

Martinsville

Greenwood

Whiteland

The edge at the top would certainly go to Mooresville but I’d put the 2nd-5th placers at this regional up against any in the state.

This is brilliant.

The Tech Sectional has Cathedral and...

Southport Sectional has Beech Grove, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, Mt. Vernon (Fortville), North Central(Indianapolis), Perry Meridian, Roncalli, and Southport.

Cathedral will pretty much always have 14 sectional champs.

The Al Smith would be a great event for your guys to get tested against the best in the state.

I contacted Coach Sandefer about 11 days ago when I started hearing rumors.  We are on the wait list and we'd have to get out of a contract we are locked in to...not as easy as people think it is.  But yes, that is on our list.  We still need to change many dates in our schedule to see sectional opponents.

Most AD's are very lenient with contracts especially when it comes to changes like this that are late. With the team you have had recently, I personally have been eager to see them at an event like the Al Smith.

Would love to see the Zebras back at the Al Smith! You have some absolute hammers and all of them  have motors on them!

Just curious why you want to see Sectional opponents during the season? I believe we only had two in ours and that was because both in our conference

One reason for a team like Rochester that's wrestling a tough schedule now compared to that sectional is that they get unfairly underseeded when there are no head-to-heads. Then they have unnecessarily higher risks for kids getting upset at sectional or for placing lower and getting bad bracket slotting for regional.

#1 Criteria per Robert Faulkens - Seeds are based on how many wins you have against the kids in your bracket, if you don't wrestle any of them then your chances of getting a good seed are pretty low.  Why would I not want to put my kids in the best position I can to move on in the state series?

Now, I also understand we can't see everyone in our sectional and that's ok, but we need to see some of them.  Some coaches don't do it that way and that's ok.  Just not the way I think.

Ya I agree with that some as last year year it really mattered to one of our kids from Sectional on but I’m not sure if mattered much to most the other kids. In my opinion with a strong team like yours don’t think I would want to wrestle the smaller programs and just take our chances. But ultimately you have to do what you feel sets them up the best .

I don't disagree and if this would have been last year, I would not have made any changes to the schedule or very minor ones.  This year we have some young kids and it could matter for them.  We've got some studs but at the end of the day my job is to help kids win, get our team qualified for team state, get as many kids as possible as far as I can in the state series, and help our studs hit some big goals at the state tourney.  And yes, I know my job is much more than that...those are just outcomes we set our sights on.

I feel bad for the new teams that are joining the Ft. Wayne SS.

I’m excited about the changes.  What can I say I love green and gold or yellow. I get both.  My former Capo and his Zebra’s will not be missed: no offense.  Get them up outta here.  Now all I have to contend with is Jay County and Delta.  We lost some guys so I wasn’t very optimistic until this was announced.  I’m not saying we are winning Semi-State: but with Rochester gone we should be a wrung higher on the ladder.
