    Out of State Move-Ins

Some French family moved to Culver...not sure if I am spelling the name right, but I think it's something like Forfet? Forfit? Something like that. Anyway, must be a big family because they are filling like seven of our weight classes this season.

The quality and depth is on par with pretty much every year. Many of the wrestlers participating don't even need to qualify for early entry, but still come here to prepare for the Super 32 and other fall events.

  12. Truly incredible the jumps he made. Won one match as a freshman, still below .500 as a sophomore and regional exit, then semi state champ and 6th as a junior, and then state runner-up as a senior. Just kept grinding and it definitely paid off.

  17. Indiana guys that had great performances that weren't mentioned already Carter Fielden getting to the finals in a tough weight Case Bell, Dominic Brown, and Gavin Lewis at 123 that weight was LOADED! Gunner Henry teching Caesar Salas was impressive along with a good win in the finals Roudebush looked good, he must have had somewhere to go Nathan Reyes was the only Indiana wrestler in the top 6 at 116. Jacob Weaver had a good tournament making a run to 3rd Some of these weights were insane and you'll see guys at state that went 2-2 or 1-2.

  24. Culver Community is hoping to pool some boys teams filling fewer than ten weight classes. If you fit this description and you (like us) have a hard time filing your schedule due to other teams (understandably) being leery about having you, then this post is for you. We are hoping to compile some of these smaller teams into some weeknight quads or Saturday morning events. That way we can maximize the chances of getting some quality mat time. We are a team in Northern Indiana and are willing to drive up to an hour on a weeknight, longer on a Saturday. If you have any interest in being added to a list of schools designed to help each other to get our wrestlers more matches this season, please email me: mbuschman@culver.k12.in.us

    Wild Wild Midwest Duals

I will second that… but from a referee’s perspective. Going to 3 pts. for takedowns was not a big deal and so much easier using one point of contact in bounds for both takedowns and wrestling in general. I only saw two coaches get a little out of hand and ironically, they were from the same club (club to remain nameless). Outside of them, the coaching was great. I was very impressed! Would I go back and ref it again? Absolutely… like I said, overall it was a great day with lots of good wrestling. Plus, two knuckleheads wouldn’t be enough to keep me away!

Hunter Douglas pinned 2 x Illinois State Champion Tyson Waughtel. Before the talks start, he also beat Layne Horn by a technical violation at the end of the match that was not intentional and personally something I had not seen called before. So that match was going to overtime between two great wrestlers.

    New school who dis?

Anyone remember The Firm w/ Nas, AZ and Foxy Brown? This all reminds me of their song "Phone Tap" "What's the deal-y? I just touched grounds down in Indy Brought some transfers with me, IHSAA be floatin' around silly" "IHSAA got yo' phone tapped, what you gon' do? 'Cause sooner or later, they'll have your whole crew All they need now is the right word or two To make it all stick like glue, then you through IHSAA got yo' phone tapped, what you gon' do? 'Cause sooner or later, we'll have your whole crew All They need now is the right word or two" Anyway, been grinding to get you the dirt: My sources tell me Rojas and Boe to Lake Highland Prep Malones and Hornsby to CG. Hornsby cleared to wrestle and I'm 95% sure Malones are cleared. Bender is THS, he just lives in Illinois. Crown Point wins the Caesar Salas sweepstakes. Traevon Ducking and Case Bell to Brownsburg, but not sure that's a surprise.

  47. Anthony Lapsley vs. Kevin Carr was an insane show of skill meets athleticism. I always thought Kevin was the most truly gifted athlete of the Carr brothers. A few more throwbacks: Nick Corpe of Elkhart Memorial was another multi-sport, freak-of-nature, do-anything athlete. Ben Wissel of Richmond always made me raise my eyebrows. James Torres of Lake C too. All of that said, I think Vernon Cannon of LC vs. James Leavell of DC in OT--the year that Leavell pinned his way through the most prestigious national folk style tournament, NHSCA senior nationals--might be the the matchup of the most combined athletic talent I ever saw on an Indiana mat.

Will never happen now with open borders and the top guys traveling to the top notch national tournaments. And weird things happen. My son’s senior year he pulled it off. With that said, he was beating a kid 14-0 and got called for a slam (it was actually bad). The coach and kid decided to continue and gave my son the win. We were super thankful.

  49. The Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association (IHSWCA) is excited to announce that we are exploring the creation of a new endowment aimed at supporting the future of high school wrestling in our state. We believe that wrestling teaches invaluable life skills—discipline, perseverance, and leadership—that extend far beyond the mat. To ensure these values continue to thrive in our communities, we are considering using the IHSWCA Middle School State Tournament as the primary revenue source to fund scholarships for wrestlers who aspire to pursue careers in education. This scholarship would be designed for Indiana wrestlers who are dedicated to continuing their education at the collegiate level, with a focus on becoming educators. By investing in the next generation of teachers, we aim to create a lasting impact on both the sport of wrestling and the quality of education in our state. As part of this exploration, we are also looking at the yearly budget that the IHSWCA operates on. By carefully managing our resources and potentially directing the proceeds from the MS State Tournament into this endowment, we hope to build a solid financial foundation that will support future educators and, in turn, the continued growth of high school wrestling in Indiana. As educators and coaches, we understand the vital role that teachers play in shaping young minds. With this endowment, our goal would be to support those who will one day return to our schools, bringing the values and lessons learned through wrestling into their classrooms. These scholarships would help ensure that Indiana high school wrestling continues to produce not only great athletes but also outstanding educators. We invite you to join us in this initiative. Whether you are a former wrestler, coach, or supporter of high school athletics, your input and support will be crucial as we explore this opportunity. Together, we can make a lasting difference for our students, our schools, and our sport. Thank you for your continued support, and let's keep championing the values that make Indiana wrestling great.
