  1. I thought this was pretty cool. My students were asking me about state and I was telling them about Mason, so I looked up "Mason Parris" on youtube and this came up. Pretty cool.

    Mason Parris at 11

Cool! I'll add the video of Mason's only HS loss here. It starts around the 1:49:00 mark. A great match in the State Semi-Finals against undefeated Chase Osborn of Penn. The video also shows Drew Hildebrandt's win over Paul Konrath, Chad Red and Nick Lee's semi final wins and Joe Lee's dramatic defeat of Perry Meridian's Brandon James. Lots of good stuff!

    PERRY MERIDIAN RTC

Perry Meridian will host its first RTC of the season Tuesday February 27 from 6-7:30. Two guest clinicians will show some technique and then we will wrestle. 2018 State Champ Noah Warren will be on hand along with 2x champ and 3x finalist Cody LeCount. These guys are opposite ends of the wrestling spectrum so I can't wait to see what they put together. Enter Door 1 (main entrance), go straight and turn left to the room.

  10. You are describing the same level, BSU has beaten IU in football so many times IU wont schedule them now. IU isnt even on par with the upper tier MAC teams. Just like their wrestling program.

    Graber / Walton

Jacob Tonte was a phenomenal wrestler as well. I believe 50-0 (or something to that effect) before being unable to wrestle at state his senior year. Would have had to beat one of the Welch twins which he was likely capable of but the Welch twins were studs. It was fun watching the Walton/Graber match. One thing that really, really stood out about Walton was his poise in the first period after giving up the initial take down. He didn't seem phased at all. The 3rd period, especially the last :30 seconds, seemed out of character in comparison to the other 5.5 minutes of the match. Graber wrestled a very good match. You can tell he had a great gas tank.

    Best Career

I was killing time watching matches on You Tube today and found Mason Parris frosh semi-final match against Chase Osborn in 2015. I had forgotten how close, and slightly controversial that match was. A quick recap: Osborn controlled the match early with 3 take downs, getting in on a single leg fairly easily and finishing strongly. Mason battled to stay in it with a mix of reversals and escapes. About mid-way through the 2nd period Mason started to change the momentum. Osborn got his 4th TD :30 into the 2nd period to lead 8-3. Mason reverses to make it 8-5 at the one minute mark of the period. The match was marred with several delays for blood time all the way down to :02 remaining. It certainly disrupted the flow of the match. Mason let's him up to make it 9-5 and can't take him down buy fights off shots that were scoring early, ending the 2nd at 9-5. Parris starts the 3rd period down and finally gets the escape @ 1:22, making it 9-6. A quick low show from Mason nets a TD followed by a quick release making it 10-8 @ :59. A standing go behind and a brief scramble and Parris ties it at 10 w/ :41 remaining. More blood time at :32. After blood time, MP let's Osborn up so they start neutral. It's 11-10 w/ :32 to go. Mason gets in a shot but Chase fends him off until Mason makes a quick move that would have resulted in a TD but he runs out of room and they go out of bounds at :19. At this point Mason tried everything but Osborn is on skates. Osborn backs straight off the mat and gets a stalling warning. :08 to go. More blood time. Same exact thing, Mason pushes, Chase backs off the mat. Parris asks for the stall call along with the crowd, doesn't get it. Back to the middle w/ :02 left. More blood time. Caution on MP on the whistle. Reset, add :02 back and Paris shoots, Osborn backpedals off the mat again. No stall call again, to the dismay of a very loud crowd. Final Score 11-10 Chase Osborn. The match was a true tale of two halves. One can 2nd guess whether Mason should have let him up when tied 10-10 at :30 left, but he had taken him down twice in less than a minute. One can wonder if there was no blood time, how would the match have turned out. But that's wrestling and Chase Osborn goes on to finish an undefeated season and a State Championship. Mason wins another close match to finish 3rd and never loses a HS match again, netting 3 State Titles along the way.

How about the likes of Tristen Tonte or Vinny Cosaro. Both were 3x finalist and ran into buzzsaws.

  19. Maybe Mason is sticking to just wrestling because he doesn’t want to be on a team that can only beat their rivals once in a 14-year span

    Which state does it best?

We could add mats to Banker's Life easily. It would be a tighter fit, but we could go with 6 or 8 mats in there. We wouldn't need to move venues.

    2017 vs. 2018

Here weee gooo...the lee vs lee debate!

  23. 1.) Congrats to Cathedral. I’m not sure anyone who hasn’t been through it truly understands how hard it is to win an Individual State Title let alone a Team State Championship. 2.) I didn’t cuss or anything like that. I was booted and deserved to be because I left the mat and came back screaming again. I was told that by Mr. Faulkens. 3.) I know I shouldn’t have come back on the mat. Thanks to him for allowing me to stay in back of venue. I lost it and would hope I could keep my compusure in the future. I’ve never been tossed out before that I remember. I deserved it. I’ve already told my assistants to pull me from the mat. I don’t see this situation repeating itself, though 4.) I am not ever going to sacrifice a kid’s dream of a state title. Brayton Lee is the ONLY kid I have ever coached that I told I must have bonus points from at Individual State. Probably the first and last. He’s special. I never worried about my actions causing a team title. We are a family here. I was able to meet with my team since Mr. Faulkens allowed me To stay in the venue. I told them I was sorry I was unable to corner them. (FYI I don’t corner BLee. Ayersman negotiated that.) Lol. Immediately, Nathan Walton said, “Coach you have prepared us and we would want you to do the same thing for each of us.” 5.) I was out of control and returned to the mat after waking off. That equals getting tossed. I have no issue with it. Most people hate me. That fuels me and our program. I have enough friends and I’m not looking to win a popularity contest. As long as the Mishawaka And Brownsburg Wrestlers and fans love me that’s what I care about. Talk to them. I have 100% administrative support here, which I have never had before. 6.) Why did I lose it even though i shouldn’t have? It is NOT an opinion or judgement call. In the casebook - look it up - it literally says the front-headlock position is a stalemate. It’s cut and dry. Not debatable. It was the wrong call. Period. Doesn’t matter if we were snapping or trying to score. Makes no difference. Says stalemate. Watch the film. Blake is my guy. He is facing me in 30 second OT. Im snapping to mat. He does exactly what I tell him to do. I know the rules. Then, it costs him a chance for his state title. I care about my wrestlers. Our system is messed up. I could not care less about a team title then. I care about Blake and his goal. If he and they win, we win. 7.) It is what it is. Cathedral was freaking impressive. Blake’s opponent is a stud and seems like an outstanding young man. Just like Blake. I probably shouldn’t post, but I will. Discussing wrestling I think is good for our sport and my thoughts are always open for anyone. Snyder
