  6. 120 - Ross (MD) 132- Dalton (Monrovia) 138 - Roberts (Avon) 145 - Mckivitz (PM) 152 - Conley (Avon) 160 - Fuqa (Franklin) These would be my dark horse picks this year considering multiple previous wins over top 5 opponents within the last 3 years. These are guys that are always in the mix producing solid victories and results.

  7. Definitely the worst I felt about leaving any kid off this set, and wanted to go back and change it after it was posted. To be honest, he is most likely a top 8 kid at that weight and should probably be in there, but the H2H loss by fall to #8 Friedt, without any victories over any of the other ranked 160s, is why he didn’t get a nod this time. 160, in my opinion, is also easily one of the two deepest classes in FW this season. That said, the win over Currie should have been enough for a “mulligan” on the Friedt loss, and he should have a match today with #1 Buckley, which I wouldn’t view as an upset at all if he did win.

    Dark Horses

Lane Deckard from Edgewood looked impressive this morning at 132 .. He is smooth with the takedowns and I know 132 is Loaded.

  11. Koontz and Mckivitz both used that extra 2 pounds to drop for team state. 138 he’d have Mendez who’s more than likely going to be a 4 timer. At 145 perry has Mckivitz who’s easily a medalist this year so 152 is next up and has already beat two of the top three guys at that weight. Has a better shot at a title at 152 than 138

  12. Anyone got any dark horse picks this year? Here are mine. 106- I think Seng can win it all, coached him this summer and he’s the real deal. Think he’s always been undersized until this year really. Also, think Tishner from Western can place high and compete with anyone. 113- This one is tough. Outside the top 4 I can’t see anyone else winning and throw Cottey into the mix and it’s a party. I think Demarco can shock some people in the state series. 120- I think Tony Wood from Jay County is very solid and could place. I also like Preston Teusch from HN to place high. 126- Don’t think anyone can really contend with Zeke but some dark horses to place could be guys like Bertch, Wolf, Dedman and Uhlman. Ft. Wayne is stacked at this weight. 132- Absolutely loaded weight, hard to pick a dark horse here really but I could see Solomey, Stroud and Thrine shocking some people. 138- No one touches Jesse but Brody Arthur, Glithero, Aj Gunn and Roberts could all do some damage. 145- look for Naselroad to be a dark horse and I like Hayden Shepherd breaking through and getting on the podium this year after being a 2x qualifier. 152- Another pretty deep weight class. I think there are numerous guys that win it all. Maybe Koontz here as well? I think anyone 1-11 can win. Tyler Williams is a good dark horse he’s been wrestling well. 160- Fuqua is my major dark horse here. He can beat anyone. 170- Jajuan Dale is my dark horse here along with Khawaja from Floyd Central. 182-Lundy, ward and Willems are my dark horses here. 195- Carrington my dark horse to win it all. I think Juan Grange places very high as well. 220- Aataeveon Jordan and Keshawn Dickens are both super athletic. Watch for them in the state series. 285- Hunter Whitenack is an absolute unit when we saw him at team state. Also Munoz and Hartwell can do some damage.

    Dark Horses

I personally don't think there can be dark horses any more with the great ranking effort on this site. We all know,, in most classes the top 3 or 4 rated, have a high percentage of winning it. And in a lot of classes most of the top 10 will reach the podium. But once in a while with a good draw a top 15 guy, who slips through the rankings, will reach the podium.

    Nick Lee REDSHIRTING?

Maybe it’s just my selfish opinion, but if you are a national title contender that has not yet won a title entering your final year(s), you get the pick of your lineup spot and the rest of the team will have to work around that. I’m sure Nicks all for being a “team player” but that is where the coach looks out for what is best for the athlete too. Nick has already helped Penn State win a team title, so he’s due to earn his own at the weight he believes works best for him. In the modern era coaches seem to be judged on individual titles as much if not more than team titles, and Sandersons statues is not being hurt any by Penn States 2021 finish. I’m not sure if that puts Nick at 141 or 149 but hopefully Sanderson gives Nick the best shot possible to accomplish an individual title.

He and Purdy will be an interesting matchup. I can already see the loser of those two at Regional meeting Sam Morrill from Columbus East in the Ticket Round!

  31. I also think Perry is thinking a team state title but still think he had a good shot to win 132. Mostly speculation though but now that he is entered in their conference tournament at 152 it looks to be true.

  35. I guess him wrestling 132 at team state throws me off. Plus with mckivitz going 138 at team state I assumed thats where he was going but like I said I'm not in their room or know their weight situation. I just see 132 being 20 pounds from 152 being a huge jump.

  36. Mckivitz is a stud senior at 45.. Koontz can win 152 IMHO.

Koontz going down to 132 makes that weight even more stacked then it already was. Returning 8th placer at 132 is ranked 14th! wow... 15/20 have qualified at state and 13 have placed.
