There are some good matches coming up on ihsaatv tonight: Cowan @ South Adams Garrett @ Carroll Carmel @ Center Grove www.ihsaatv.org4 points -
If you missed the SA vs Cowan(#6 1A) dual tonight it was a barn burner! Both Cowan and SA were not at full strength, but it came down to the last match! Cowan won 34-30. Upset! UNRANKED Silas Loshe beats #17 State Ranked Levi Abbott. I believe the score was 9-4!3 points

I think if a wrestler like Mendez has a shot at 4 state titles then they will stay and try to get it. If their shot a 4 is gone (LIke the Lee's and Carroll), it makes sense from a development standpoint to skip senior year (assuming the kid is ok with not doing sr year stuff like prom and graduation) and getting into a better training situation, maybe wrestling some opens, etc. than it does beating up on kids that have no shot to beat them. Realistically, nobody at 285 would come close to beating CC this year, so why not make the jump early? If that headlock from Koontz played out differently, maybe Mendez would have foregone his last year too2 points -

I remember when the first discussions were had about when to host the coaches association team State. When it was through IHSAA it was in parallel with the State series. Then when the coaches association had to take over, the only logical time was beginning of January since we will be bumping into conference tournaments for some schools and needed to avoid the big holiday tournaments. Personally I would have loved to see it happen either 2 weeks before Sectionals or 1 week before so that would give us a full season of matchups to see how everything plays out. Unfortunately many schools have their conference either 2 weeks before sectionals or a week before sectionals and logistically it didn't sound like those things could be changed. So we are left with last years results and a month and half of a season to determine who qualifies. That also means that teams that have a bunch of football players and a football team those goes deep into the tournament are going to suffer. On top of that November and December are pretty typical for sickness flowing through school systems and teams. There just isn't an easy answer. Like everyone else we haven't had our actual lineup yet and will not until after Christmas but we have some solid backups to make up for it. The schools that have a wrestling culture will always win this case. Just meaning those schools where athletes prioritize wrestling over all other sports. Which also means the small schools will suffer more because usually more of those kids are multi sport athletes and their lineups aren't going to be as deep. The only real answer to me would be move team state to a week or 2 before sectionals and go mostly off of the current years results. But... that just isn't going to be possible. I would like to thank everyone involved in making team state happen because it is a tough job trying to figure out who should get invited. The good thing is though I think the top 4 usually always rises to the top.1 point -
Problem solved. Updated rankings have neither team in the top 10. You are also right, only 12 teams total and 1 in 3A played in the football state finals. However, health & weight management are faced by all. Good luck with both this season.1 point

I really hope the decision isn't set in stone yet. As a fan it was great seeing Kamran go up and give us all the match we wanted, but honestly it would be a shame to base his whole 97 future on this one match. Huge respect to him for taking the challenge, but to go in cold for your first ever match at 97kg against Snyder is an insane ask. Didn't even try out the weight against Japan or the UWW team, just straight in against the no.2, and prob the most physically strong guy, at the weight. I know he looked undersized but I'd love to see him against other competition at the weight. (Also, hello everyone! During worlds I was lurking so hard literally everyday on the old forum I thought I'd sign up here)1 point -

No all teams don't face the same challenges. Specifically when you have Football players playing in state finals. Keegan Grandinetti off weight Sam Allen battling weight obviously he is the one that went up 220. 35 pounds difference Blake Driver on weight, knocking the rust off Jakarrey Oliver still getting in shape. All 4 guys are 4 year Varsity Wrestlers and starters. So not only dose it effect when they are ready but the room as a whole. they missed the first two weeks. We have 10 seniors that are starters this year. 5 are currently ranked in the state. And that will continue to grow I feel like. We are in a conference with Perry, in a dual we win. Unfortunately we have no chance to wrestle them or EMD which again I feel with our full squad we win both those duals. Top 3 teams at 4 A and Cathedral are on a different level We will have 3 common opponents this weekend. Indian Creek, Greenwood & and Center Grove on top of wrestling each other. We can only wrestle what is in front of us. Technically, you can say what you want. Missing 182 & by 1.5 lbs. 183.5 Weigh in and wrestling 220er is a swing... not 120.5 to 132. More than 36 pounds. What is the actual record of that team? Why is it so hard to get their results and put them in? Are they 2-9? Going forward we may not lose a dual out side of Center Grove. Franklin is a rivalry for Whiteland and we have not beat them in 25 years in wrestling. So forgive me if I toot our horn.as we do it twice in the same week. Break the Rock!1 point -

Forgoing Senior Season
Paycheck141 reacted to blueandgold for a topic
I see the latest rankings no longer include Christian Carroll, the #1 ranked wrestler pound-for-pound in the nation. Now, before I go any further, I must acknowledge Carroll potentially not wrestling this season could be out of his hands for a variety of reasons that I do not know. So, I don’t want to assume it’s because of one thing or another, but I would like to discuss a small, but noticeable trend that has occurred in our state over the past few years. While it hasn’t happened a lot, there have been a few examples in recent years of top wrestlers forgoing their senior seasons to get an early start on collegiate training. Some of the most notable wrestlers in recent memory have made the decision including Evansville Mater Dei’s state champion Lee trio of Nick, Joe, and Matt and Mount Vernon’s state runner-up Paul Konrath. If Carroll is the latest to make this decision, how likely do you see it to continue? Wrestlers have begun to turn their focus to national tournaments to build résumés and an identity on the national level for recruiting purposes, and while good schools will call if you win your state tournament, you’ll have a wider variety of options if you place or win at these big regional or national tournaments. In addition, the added spotlight of being featured on FloWrestling can make a lasting impression on a young, wide-eyed talent. So, a solid national résumé and a commitment to a good school may be enough for one to get an early start on collegiate competition. What are your thoughts on this?1 point -
Forgoing Senior Season
MUSKEEWRESTLER reacted to busstogate for a topic
My guess is that it may continue until Indiana schools are firmly established in the national "scene". It has started with the easing of travel restrictions this year, as we saw this weekend. Not everyone can be on a team that can do that right now or be on one that is soon to get there, and some top-notch wrestlers may find themselves reviewing their options if they can't make it happen during their high school season(s).1 point -

It's tough to base off common opponents. We matched up WAY better against Delta than Heights. Delta is nails 106-120 (If Mosier doesn't bump) and 45-70. Heights is solid 32, 45 and 60 on up (Minus the FF). I think this could be a great matchup that they split 7 & 7 and it will come down to bonus points.1 point -

MV. The first weekend, we had two loses, but had 3 forfeits in our lineup and again had multiple starters out at Shamrock duals. We have yet to have a full lineup, like a lot of others, but 4-1 at Traicoff even without full lineup and yet no changes to the rankings. I believe GC also beat CE and stayed under them.1 point
