  2. Relatively new poster here so hope everyone is okay with a little humor during the post IHSAA season message board slow down. What would you do if you looked out in your front yard and saw an impromptu wrestling match involving Anthony Kiedis? For all you RHCP fans out there skip to the 4:00 (4 minute) mark and enjoy. Technique needs a lot of improvement but I appreciate the effort! Link / 4:00 -

    Crown Point Movie

Only 4 1/2 stars from me, not enough mentions of IndianaMat nor any interviews with me. Hopefully in the next one I can get a leading role! Great stuff and very well done other than my small complaint.

  4. I’m going to say it since nobody will! I like it how it is now…., keep 1a 2a state on the off-season just like frosh soph and it be okay. If anything keeping it on the off-season will promote off-season wrestling more to those smaller programs or just for everybody in general. There was 41 teams at 1a 2a state last week. I promise you that at least 80% or probably even higher then that have never competed at an off-season tournament in there life. Now not only did they go home but also there parents/ guardians went home knowing there is more out there in the wrestling world then just 4 months out of the year.

    Mendez Question

One off events like this or Who's #1 all have different weigh-in situations. I believe the Rudi's card the match is billed as being 145lbs. At Who's #1 some of the weights had kids makings scratch day before or with a little allowance. Some, like the futures match with Mendoza and Bassett were scratch weight and like 3 hours before the event. The people that organize the event are basically mediators with the parents/coaches/wrestlers on determining the weight restrictions.

  10. At the MAC Tournament, Jordan Slivka won by TF in Opening round and 5-0 in the Quarterfinal advancing to the Semis against Ben Barton of Loch Haven. The MAC only has 2 allocations at 157 so he'll need to win his semifinal to be ensured of an NCAA Berth. At 24-5 I'd guess he'd have a good shot at an at-large bid if he doesn't finish top 2. Carson Brewer won his opener then fell in the Quarterfinal to top seed Will Feldkamp, 7-1.

    Greatest vs. Best

I don't like the "greatest versus best" argument. It is splitting hairs for ultimately what means the same thing. I think of how people on sports TV ask is "Tom Brady the greatest ever/best ever/most accomplished or so on" the reality is you can only gauge greatest/best strictly off of accomplishments/results. That being said my vote goes to Andrew Howe - under any label you want to give him, greatest/best/most dominant and so on. To dominate at the level of Mendez, Seltzer, Howe, Humphrey, Escebedo, Tsirtsis, Bradley, Parris, Brayton and Nick Lee, and a long list of others you have to be technical, physically gifted, smart, and so on. But each of them have earned their place permanently in Indiana wrestling folklore.

  12. No matter when the event is run it is a good thing for the sport and the state. This is an opportunity for these kids to get to compete. Opportunity is how we continue to grow the sport as a state. In season or off season this is a great event and I hope it continues to grow.

    Greatest vs. Best

I think I’d go with Howe even though he only won 3 state titles. He was very dominating on those 3 seasons. His one loss was to a kid who was in the process of winning his third state title. And I think his NCAA credentials were pretty impressive, too. My recollection was something like 2, 1, 2, 3 … but I’m sure someone with better recollection will correct me.

  15. One of the best wrestling documentaries. On par with Flofilms. What a great story not only about Jesse but about Crown Point and the success they are breeding up in the region. Congrats to Jesse and the rest of the Crown Point team. There is a reason this team is where they are and the video makes it very evident. These kids hate to lose!

  16. Crowning more state champions per weight class will raise number in the sport…… butttttt we should concentrate more of growing the sport at youth instead of high school. If you really want the sport to grow it starts with the kids. A 5 year old newbie will wrestle potentially 13 more year vs a high school freshman that will only be potentially in the sport for 4years.

  24. The best way to seed would be just seeing the four semi-state champions then everyone else falls into place after that. A- 1st Seed Semi-State B- 2nd Seed Semi-State C- 3rd Seed semi-State D- 4th Seed semi-state 1-4 placements First round match-ups A1 vs. D4 C2 vs. B3 D1 vs. A4 B2 vs. C3 -------- C1 vs. B4 A2 vs. D3 B1 vs. C4 D2 vs. C3 However if we are talking about things we wish would happen here is the order it would happen 1. Class wrestling 2. Wrestle-backs 3. Seeding at state These are all pipe dreams
