8 matches to 6 MD...Championship matches only.  Top to bottom there really isn't a comparison, but the Holiday Classic is a great tourney.

Is this a joke? A 15 team tournament doesn't even compare with a 32 team tournament! Ranked IN teams at the Evansville tournament are #3 Avon and #5 Mater Dei. Ranked teams at Al Smith (hold on this will take a minute or two!) #4 Portage #6 Penn #9 Merrillville #12 Carroll #13 Bellmont #14 Zionsville #17 Chesterton #18 Columbus East #20 Prairie Heights. Really even close???? You can't compare champs of a 3 win tournament to a two day 32 team meat grinder! Put the champs in with more than one other ranked or even good wrestler in their weight class and see how they stack up. Look at all the upsets at the Al Smith! It's because it's a grind that you don't walk through, you have to fight through! Two Hobart kids (#1 at 138 Black and #8 at 145 Colza) got sick and couldn't finish a Chesterton kid (#10 at 160 Lesley) had skin they wouldn't let go then several other guys didn't show up for other unknown reasons.....i.e. #7 at 120 from Penn DeMien.

No, it's not a joke. Upsets, if that's what you want to call them happen in all tournaments no matter how many teams are there. The EMD Classic also host top ranked teams from Kentucky and a team from Illinois that comes with some grinders of their own. This is a post that happens every year after these 2 tournaments have concluded.

How many teams would leave the Al smith to go to mater dei? I would guess not many. How many would leave mater dei for Al smith? The Al Smith is a grind. I think you are over estimating the Kentucky kids a lot of them wrestled at Indianamat preseason open and DNP'ed top 4 at al smith isn't even close. Combest won the ihpo weight with luigs. Jacob Moran almost majored the Kentucky 106 yet he is unbeatable. Obviously some weights are deeper. There isn't a individual regular season tourney that is as good as al smith. I bet there were kids who didn't place this weekend who will medal this year.

My source tells me Ripple smashes everyone at Al Smith at 285. Also Brewer smashed the Zville kid who beat Mappes

Got to say Al Smith. We do Mooresville and it has its share of talent but let's be honest with all the teams and the grind to get to the top you know you get the best of the best. Not saying there are not kids at MD, Mooresville or even Connersville. That could not win it because there are. All and all they all make for great wrestling though the holidays. Congrats to all the winners.

Carson took a bad loss to a very tough wrestler at team state . He wasn't around last year, and didn't look that great at Evansville (was a bit ill). He knows that he has work to do. Time will tell if Mike is right. I assure you that he will work hard to try to get to the top (always has worked hard). No excuses here. Gotta work harder to earn respect. Edited by Mattyb

So brewer beat a zionsville kid who beat Mappes and that's your criteria but Lawson pinning Robert who beat the guy who knock ripple out doesn't matter in this opinion question. Ok
