MattM
127 at Perry. That’s an average of 9 per weight class. Pretty impressive pull for that area. GenHeavyHandz
Chris Cooper
There is an unnecessary level to the girls state series. 2 levels would be plenty. jonah7474 and tangarrray
The Professor Morgan
They really need to do some sort of weighted qualifiers like California does. Every girl at Eastern Hancock advances including zero at 100lbs whereas there is more than half the field at Perry that don’t advance. 100 at the semi state will have ffts when there were girls at Perry. The Professor Morgan
Also zero at Crawfordsville. So semi state will have 6 kids out of 16 at 100 but 3 staying home after Perry

Not sure how to best decide what 5th place to take for a single spot other than a pig-tail match. Though thats still an issue if three regional 5th exist and are all interested. A few weights are pretty full at the regional level but several are still pretty slim since interest is still building on the girls side. possibly need to see a weight by weight break down to see where that all falls. The series seems to be in between needing 2 or 3 levels mostly depending on the area and weight class size. Based on some areas and weights jumping straight to semi-state could create some large bracket issues. The solution that could work for a few years (until more growth could occur) maybe two levels but with Level 1 be 8 regional/semi-state location where the top 3 advance to state. Then State be a 24 person bracket where the 1s get a first round bye. Match limits would prevent any early round wrestlebacks for sure though. But we know people are on both sides of the fence with less wrestlebacks, as well as the effects of an opening round bye. That is unless they are confident they can keep it at or under 24 entries at all weights for 4 semi-states over the next few years and just advance the normal 16 to state. Ironbear
Ok so there won’t be holes and forfeits at all. We have always filled the weight classes at the next level. There will be some 5th and maybe some 6th places move onto the Semi-State. Since the beginning we have brought girls back in to fill up weights. So everyone will get a shot that deserves it. Like I can remember not to long ago that their was just 1 or 2 girls in the south regional and we just brought the 5th and 6th place in leveled it out from the north. We will immediately know after the the tourneys completed who to notify for them to come back in for the semi-state. Look last year there was 2 levels we didn’t get out of Warren Central till after 1am for the semi-state like all the other 3 that were going on. We expanded anticipating over 1,000 girls this year. We didn’t want to have our girls traveling home at those hours of the night. So will stay at 3 levels and it will keep filling up until we are able to expand again. littlevito
Kind of funny how people are chiming in with their 2 cents, when they’ve done nothing to support or help grow women’s wrestling. Going from 2 state levels to 3 was necessary. Weight classes too full and not being able to finish some weight classes cause of daily match allowances. This Regional round will have minimal brackets, but it will setup for a better semi state for the girls. Matt Time
The growth continues to be impressive. Grateful to everyone who is helping make that happen. A lot of effort was put into setting this up in way that will continue to encourage participation. The current format with properly seeded Regionals and the ability to draw in alternates to fill semi-state brackets sets things up well to both attract and accommodate more growth in the future. julio
I heard that they were not pulling from other Regionals to fill out the brackets at Semi State. Only 4 from each Regional will advance, regardless if not enough girls from the other Regionals.
piscis1956
Just curious, but why are they calling the first round “regionals” instead of “sectionals”?

Only 3 Rounds instead of 4 like the boys, and Round 1 is all the teams that would feed in that areas boys regional.
