  1. If you can't find the email from NFHS with the survey, you can find it online here. https://www.nfhs.org/sports-resource-content/nfhs-sport-questionnaires
  2. Our state has an unhealthy obsession with girls uniforms and undergarments. It's getting weird.
  3. Random question simply bc I do not remember: if a wrestler paid to attend a qualifier, they pay again here?
  4. Link to the flyer on Track: https://www.trackwrestling.com/tw/uploads/O-793831132-Indiana_Frosh_Soph_State_2024.pdf
  5. I respect both gentlemen for what you've done to grow girls wrestling. I would encourage y'all to work it out offline. Additional public attention to this topic doesn't help the bigger goal of presenting our girls and the sport in a serious light.
  6. Pre-buy tickets online or cash at the door? I’ve been asked by curious parents.
  7. Did I somehow miss an email about entering head-to-heads or are we seeding solely on regional placement?
  8. The growth continues to be impressive. Grateful to everyone who is helping make that happen. A lot of effort was put into setting this up in way that will continue to encourage participation. The current format with properly seeded Regionals and the ability to draw in alternates to fill semi-state brackets sets things up well to both attract and accommodate more growth in the future.
  9. The fire alarm was a nice touch. Was told that it came from burnt popcorn and not the making of classic char dogs. I did not get to sample the dogs or the popcorn, however, as the coach's hospitality room featured the ever popular wares of Munster Donut and a mighty nice donation of meats and sides from Doc's BBQ. That was a mighty fine spread.
  10. Chatter among a few of the girls coaches: the rule limiting weight loss by 1.5% from the previous week weigh-in makes it hard to get qualified weigh-ins due to natural water retention during certain times of the month, followed by how quickly they drop again the following week. If we could simply follow the progression in the Alpha that is established at the beginning of the year, that would be really helpful instead of the week-to-week, weigh-in to weigh-in formula. Example: Alpha 176.2, Min Wrestling Weight 145.1. Weigh-in #1: 177.5; Weigh-in #2: 174.0 not qualified bc of water retention at weigh-in #1. But would have been qualified if original Alpha min weight of 171 was used. This process repeats every four weeks.
  11. Illiana (Dyer, Indiana) has 15 consistent. We have room for one more team to join us, Crown Point and Hobart for a Quad this Saturday as our fourth school needed to pull out last minute. The goal with this event is to give a lot of the new girls a chance to experience competition in a lower pressure environment before going into a big tournament. Contact me if anyone is interested in joining despite it being last-minute.
  12. Mild solution of Dawn dish soap in water takes off all manner of wax/grease/oil-based grime. Just don't use too much or your mats will make bubbles the next 10 times they are mopped. It's a marvel of modern chemistry.
  13. Super cool. The night that photo was taken was a ton of fun, too. The gym was packed and loud for a three-way girls dual.
  14. Did anyone figure out if the Championship will be on Flo tonight? Or do I need to bite the bullet and pay for ihsaa tv?
  15. While still in the growth phase, I'd argue in favor of keeping up to two per weight class . . . at least until we get to a three stage sectional/regional/state construct. Right now this is about building numbers and with the vast majority of competitors in the 113-138 range, it seems premature to limit. My five cents (two cents, adjusted for inflation).
  16. The Indiana girl's scene is definitely worth watching over the next few years. We're just now getting into a batch of girls who have been doing this from a very young age, while at the same time we're seeing explosive growth in numbers, bringing this into the high school sports mainstream. Even among the newcomers, there is some very interesting talent emerging.
  17. The crossover usually works like this: 1st vs 1st from each bracket would determine true 1st and 2nd. 2nd vs. 2nd from each bracket determine true 3rd and 4th. 3rd vs. 3rd from each bracket would determine first and second alternate.
  18. The one class system definitely makes a more exciting tournament for the viewer. Unfortunately, I have to agree that classed wrestling might do more to grow and promote the sport, especially at smaller schools. So I guess it depends on the goal. Indiana is decidedly mid-pack on the national scene. I would be open to seeing some innovation and experimentation in our statewide approach to scholastic wrestling. But I like change and trying new things.
  19. There are about a dozen tournaments this year. The centrally located ones are drawing 300 or more girls from all over the state. I can see the difficulty to seed beyond the handful of known top tier performers. I suspect seeding will get easier as tournaments start to spread out across the state and get more regionalized. More girls-only records and head to heads to evaluate too. Until then, I particularly enjoyed the one that blocked girls by weight into groups of six and ran round robin. That was a smart move.
  20. As I understand it, you should hit scratch 98 weight once. That can be at a girls tournament (hint: notify organizer that you'll be going "106A"), a dual or drop in at a boys dual but don't wrestle or call a ref for a special weigh in. After Xmas 98 can go 100. Understand also that I am stupid and this is my simplistic understanding of how to make this work.
  21. Honest question: What's to stop us from just running a 98 lb bracket at the girls only open tournaments? Will the weight class police show up?
  22. I just replied. Meeting with our AD next week to work on schedules. He also pointed out this list to me: https://www.ihsgw.net/invitationals Would be great if we could have a single place as a clearinghouse for all these!?!? Regardless, we'll get this sorted ASAP.
