  1. Indiana is very hard to win obviously, and the winner is always competitive on a national level. But in terms of depth I wouldn’t put in in top 5, maybe top 5 for hardest to win however.
  2. Women’s wrestling is developing so much. I don’t watch much myself but that will slowly change as it becomes more main stream in our community. 10 years back Sarah Hildibrant was making waves for winning a match at SS and now we have women place. Great for Ocampo and for the growth and future of women in wrestling!
  3. Your tone in the initial response was the reason for my snarky response, also the fact that I wasn’t talking to you is another reason. Do you often find yourself butting into conversations and activities that you’re not a part of?
  4. I do believe most states have 3 levels of state rather than 4. I also cannot emphasize enough how much I hate forfeits. Treat it like a bye and stop giving kids fake wins. In a dual is makes sense since there is a team score, but in an 8 team bracket just throw in byes rather than a FFT.
  5. In this situation it should be a round robbin and then the opposite side regional should pull 5 in to make up for the lossed person. 106 is a tough weight to fill, they should make 113 the lowest
  6. I’ve been a fan of not having forfeits in HS tournaments, If a team doesn’t enter a wrestler in a weight they should just treat it as a bye. allowing team to enter 20 wrestlers as well would cut down in this as well.
  7. Just wanted to let the Hs folks know to support our in state D1 programs and aid in the rivalry.
  8. Some of these schools and donors are making it an arms race. Stand alone facilities are becoming the norm- Illinois is building a $14M facility, Iowa is making a $31M facility, Ohio state has a stand alone room with 4 mats, penn state has a massive facility and seeming unlimited money- and these are just in the big Ten. Without serious money the small guys are going to continue to have the gap widened and the top guys are going to duke it out for second behind Penn State.
  9. Hey IndianaMat folks, Tarleton is active and trying to fundraise. Tarleton is trying to create a D1 mens and women’s team and needs support. I will be buying a shirt to help out during this time, I know I am a fan of all programs (especially D1) as are others, so I figured these updates would be welcome! Attached is a newsletter from Grant Leeth (Tarleton’s Head Coach) https://twitter.com/GBaby_141/status/1750267266472477008/photo/2 Website: https://www.tsuwrestling.org I have no affiliation with the school, I just think supporting wrestling is an important part of being an ex wrestler.
  10. He got reallllllyyy quiet after this one, what a loser. People that can’t follow simple rules due to some inflated ego or whatever have no space teach youth anything…
  11. Jonah, contrary to popular belief high school student athletes ALSO have wrestling seasons. @blueandgold posted individual results from Indiana natives during their HS campaign, per his question. I, on the other hand, did not follow that rule, however, I admitted my fault and wanted to further the conversation to elicit more responses from other folks here to talk about wrestling. I hope I answered your question. Yes it is a high school forum. You’re doing excellent. Do you have any thoughts on the topic at hand?
  12. Great addition. I wonder why more folks aren’t throwing in their thoughts. Unless we covered them all lol.
  13. I know this is the HS forum, but I have to say it. It’s hard for me to think of a better year for any indiana folks post HS. Mason Parris - 2023 - NCAA title at 285 - World bronze medal at 125kg
  14. Where would this go? I write proposals all day for work, I would love to spearhead this.
  15. While I don’t understand the feeling, I understand your point. Club wrestling is a great equalizer as is year round wrestling. If your kids can’t wrestle year round or attend a local club with the best kids in the area they are never going to be as good as you can be. I’m not exactly sure my point, but if we do a class tournament and then combine classes for a single champion the end results will be the same at the end of the day. Just with a showcase of class by class talent.
  16. It makes sense to me and more opportunity is always better. There are plenty of kids in the state that cannot make the lineup and instead of them being a practice dummy for the last 5+ weeks they can get matches in and have something. To work towards. i will always be a fan of young people striving for something!
  17. What we’re the numbers last year? I assume this is the first time with over 1,000?
  18. Someone please let me know when day 2 starts. I haven’t been to the Al Smith since I wrestled in it, with it being so deep this would be a great time for me to tune in!
  19. Tristan Tonte was in my bracket a few times, always hurt seeing him lose again and again in the finals. He’s got my vote.
  20. Wowza- you don’t even see that at some colleges (Purdue ) Great environment, great for the kids, great for the sport, great for the teams. Just great all around!
  21. Eliminating someone going 1-1 at semi-state has always felt ridiculous to me. A 1 seed beating a 4 seed first round of regionals or first round of semi-state, I can understand sending them home. A lot of ticket round matches are 2v3 seed and a lot of good kids get sent home due to poor draws.
