I believe these to be the correct classes for next season

Does NFHS have an official position on the effects of weight cutting on safety and ability or is this change their position?  Small guys, you are cool. Middleweights and bigs, quit being fat.

I really want to know this to have the young ones and the returners know what to expect for next season (there season is over for 2023) :( unlike some storied programs that still have  full rosters.  Thanks for the info. PowerUp!

This is less about arbitrary weight class changes and more about other more prominent wrestling states, cough cough PA, wanting less HS weight classes. I never understood the less is more concept here but do understand it’s hard to get big guys out. Nationally I think theyll end up settling on 12 but we’ll see where it goes.

PS - 12 is a travesty. And it’ll be hard for everyone to comprehend but it’s better than 10 or 11 and that’s what some states are after.

Awesome good to know! They seem confident that would go into effect in 2023-2024?

That’s what the national federation was saying to do, so I’d say it’s likely for next year.

Per most of the documentation around, States can pick between 12, 13, or 14 weight classes and it is effective July 1st, 2023:

12 weights – 108, 116, 124, 131, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 190, 215, 285

13 weights – 107, 114, 121, 127, 133, 139, 145, 152, 160, 172, 189, 215, 285

14 weights – 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215, 285

I would love to see them have a 250lb class and just a plain old HWT. 285 always seemed arbitrary to me.
