  1. I didn't know Bruce Baumgartner went to ISU. I was just thinking about him the other day. A guy that went to MD was at the Olympic training center and had the opportunity to wrestle B.B. Now this guy's name was John Barnes who was a mountain of a man and John told me that B.B. was one tough SOB. Just by the looks of this match he looked to be at least 20 Lb. out weighed and still won the match. I agree N.D. and ISU should both be able to carry a wrestling team, especially N.D. they've got plenty of money for it.
  2. Our biggest threat is the timing of the season, Nov-Feb is prime time for cold, flu, and virus season as soon as covid #'s start to pop up I feel they will shut us down mid season I don't know if there's a lot we can do about that. I'm a grade school coach and fully intend on telling my parents if the kid is sick he can't be in my practice. Beyond that maybe temp checks at the beginning of practice??? I'd need a bunch of coaches and probably 15 minutes extra to get them all done. Of course that won't do anything to stop the ones that don't have any symptoms but are carrying. I see very tough t
  3. I say Lee takes Pletcher after watching some tape from Big 10's and also getting P.O.ed at Pletcher for holding up #1 finger. I could be a bit biased though!
  4. I get what you're saying but I guess you can call me lazy but with three kids and a third shift job time to look stuff up doesn't come easy.
  5. I forgot about that one, the wrestler from MD was Dewig and the other wrestler was from Bloomington South can't remember his name though. Dewig would have done well at state I can't remember if Dewig was a senior or not I know at one time Dewig placed 2nd at state but again I can't remember the details on that. Dewig was going for a near side cradle with his head in the kid's side getting ready to bring the head to the knee the Bloomington south wrestler turned away from Dewig thus causing Dewig to be essentially trying to force his back to bend backwards ref called it illegal the Bloomington
  6. I never saw the match but as I heard the story Riggs was too high with both legs in sitting on his butt and Wildeman grabbed his head and pushed Digg's shoulders to the mat. Wildeman may have wiggled a bit to get into position but that's the story told to me. MD coaches taught the "move" and called it Richie Diggs.
  7. I agree with Jack Jones, football state champs tend to tell people they won the 2-A state championship or what ever class they were in. I've talked to guys from other states that won state championships in wrestling they tell me I won the small school division or I won the AA division and so on. I feel they don't want to lead anyone on and make them think they won the 5-A championship or whatever the largest division is.
  8. I'm not going to argue this point like I usually do CFleshman, but how do you argue the post above from Sila's father? That's exactly his situation, I realize that Silas attends an academy but I don't think it's right next door to his house.
  9. I don't think it could be said any better than this, absolutely perfect 100%. An addition to these points is that there are so few people willing to give everything they have to achieve their goals. In my opinion Silas may have had a goal to win State but I'm pretty sure his goals are WAY higher than that. Look at all of the state champs in any given year regardless of where they came from or where they're going they put a ton of work into their goals, if any individual wants it bad enough there will be a way and they will find that way.
  10. Agreed, after some time to look things up,Gabe finished 5th at the Big 10 championships, not a bad finish in my opinion though. None the less, those guys weren't all dragging their knuckles, there were D-I wrestlers in the room and plenty of future college students in there as well maybe not all college wrestler material but not the dumbest room in the state by far.
  11. MD beat more than a few of those LN teams in the 90's. LN got some too but to this point I don't see too many Indiana high school teams beating that team. I wasn't around for the Bloomington/Bloomington North dynasty but I'd put my money on MD from 03.
  12. I wouldn't say they weren't college material, some went to college they just didn't wrestle there, they received a heck of an education at MD, getting a full ride to college on a wrestling scholarship isn't easy. Back then, MD wasn't on the national map for wrestling, they were still the big fish in the little pond. On that note Gabe Zercklebach, Chip Elderkin, Dave Nosko all went to college on wrestling scholarships. As far as D-I success Chip and Dave were no slouches, Chip went to IU I can't remember where Dave went and Gabe went to Purdue. While in college Gabe beat Lance Ellis and may hav
  13. Craig Elpers 4x State qualifier not sure of his exact stats but finished 2nd his senior year to a Lawrence North wrestler who just rode him our the ENTIRE MATCH using the cowboy absolutely no effort from him to actually turn Elpers just the obligatory half just for show.
  14. Maybe give each school an allotted amount of tickets per section based on the number of wrestlers sent, maybe a lottery system on where they'll be each year then let the schools handle how many they need, then the die hard fans could have a couple of sections too?? Probably not a perfect idea but it's a start.
  15. I could be wrong on this but I don't think they "get" rings, I think they have to pay for them, I believe team state champs, team runners up individual champions and runners up are able to buy rings. Usually there will be a donation by a group that will pay for them but I don't think the IHSAA pays for them.
  16. But would renting venues such as The Ford Center for two days be a viable option in this situation? I like the idea I just don't know if it will all work out if your talking about rental for another whole day. What do the other venues cost the IHSAA for semi-state? I'd hate to lose The Ford Center as a very comfortable place to watch some really good wrestling but other than Seymour's gym who would host an event like this in the southernmost part of the state? Seymour wasn't exactly comfortable but it did serve a purpose. The other good thing about The Ford Center is that we as wres
  17. The Bible doesn't say to wear straw hats, suspenders, and to not let anyone take your picture either but that's how the Amish see fit to live their lives, not saying it's my way just that they choose to live their faith in that manner I forgot about the "not wrestling starters" stuff, I agree that was a big factor in losing Team State. We can't wrestle them in the feeder league so why would we wrestle them outside of that?
  18. I was under the impression that attendance was the reason we lost team state. I have no issues with girls wrestling girls but as a Catholic I cannot condone boys wrestling girls.
  19. I watched this week's match and the state championship back to back.I may be biased but I think Lee was injured at the state championships. Seeing him this week vs then there's just no comparison Lee just seemed hurt to me in the finals match especially when watching him in the third period. I also think Red will turn it on for the post season, he'd take the win no doubt but I think he was doing his homework on this match, if they meet again with advancement or a championship on the line I think we see a different Red.
  20. The private school comment is a B.S. statement, I truly hope you're joking. I know of several private schools that can't field a full team much less compete for a 4A state wrestling championship.
  21. Looking for this event on track wrestling can’t find the event. Any links?
  22. I get that teams want better competition but why pull out of MD when you haven’t won it? I’m scratching my head on this one.
  23. I'll bite. What MD wrestler came from outside of MD's feeder school system?
  24. I'm going with Andy Schneider of Mt. Vernon. Two time champ and dominate through both years. However Chalfant was impressive as well as Chico Adams. I'm going with Andy Schneider of Mt. Vernon.
