badpta
With MS state coming up next weekend is there any correllation between being a MS state champ and being an IHSAA state champ? Have there been any recent MS state champs that did not do well in high school be it injuries or focusing on other sports etc. Have there been any recent IHSAA state champs that did not place in MS state? KyleM
Fernando Luevano from West Noble was a state qualifier last year as a freshman at 132 lbs after winning MS state the year before.
sportsfangms
If memory serves me correctly, Reitz is the last kid to win Middle School State and follow it up with a High School State Title the following year. Prior to him I think Jason Tsirtsis was last to do it. Edited February 5, 2016 by sportsfangms
Westforkwhite
Someone has posted data related to this topic before (sorry, can't recall who) The gist of it was success in the ISWCA MS tourney from the weights of 90-130 lbs translated well to success at the HS level. As far as champs at those weights, there is a good track record for these kids being immediate impacts on their HS program (not all, but the vast majority)

badpta
Was there anyone who did not have any early success that kept on grinding and won a state title. The one person that come to mind is Deondre and his two titles.
Blane Culp
Garrett Goldman of Bloomington North, now at IU. I doubt that he would have won a MS state title but got one as a Sr.
Galagore
Matt Hurford no where on any of the lists but went on to place fifth, win a state title (in dominant fashion), then wrestle to JuCo national runner-up twice...

maligned
Aren't there many schools that don't participate in this event? Doesn't that automatically mean there will be many that win state that didn't do anything at MS state? Someone has posted data related to this topic before (sorry, can't recall who) The gist of it was success in the ISWCA MS tourney from the weights of 90-130 lbs translated well to success at the HS level. As far as champs at those weights, there is a good track record for these kids being immediate impacts on their HS program (not all, but the vast majority) I was the one that posted stats about MS state championships being followed immediately by state qualification. The last couple years, the majority of 8th grade champs in that 90 to 130 range were at high school state as freshmen.

You can register under a school or club.

hook and half
There was a kid in our program that went 2-2 at middle school state. He got beat the first round at the sectional. Tough match. I look for him to make some noise. Fernando Luevano from West Noble was a state qualifier last year as a freshman at 132 lbs after winning MS state the year before.
