    Team State 2023

This logic is why there is a classed Team State. These numbers make a lot of sense for arguing for a classed Team State and an unclassed Individual State. Big Schools get more individual state qualifiers in the unclassed Individual State format. Small Schools get more individual representation in the classed Team State format. I feel like you are pointing out a designed element of the system and saying it is a flaw. Making this argument for more Big Schools at team state seems to forget that the Individual State is creates results with more Big School participants based on the numbers. We can't talk about Team State and Individual State in isolation, because they are the top two ways we celebrate and showcase our HS wrestlers and teams. There are less 4A teams at Team State because there are just less 4A teams. There is a higher probability in making 4A Team State for each 4A team with or without EMD and Cathedal. There are less 3A teams at Team State because there are less 3A teams. There are more 4A individual state qualifiers at Individual State because there are more students in 4A schools. The representations of student population and state qualifiers was extremely close when it was posted on the board last. To me that justifies the unclassed Individual State tournament. Team State is about getting top programs of all sizes state goals that are achievable for every school. We can't make every goal completely equal in difficulty, so there are cut-offs, and there is always frustration closest to the cut-offs of all situations in life. My team was #13 the last year of the 3 class system in 3A, so we didn't make it. That was frustrating, but it was understandable. As Winimac has attested, frustration will occur in our system, just like all systems that divide people into groups, but it can also be overcame. It also gives much more satisfaction than frustration in general, and even compared to past versions of team state.

  3. I think if he starts he's top 8. Not sure where he lands in the top 8 might end up on top. This kid has so much talent I can't wait to see how his career pans out! OSU got a real good one.

Having a roster of 53 athletes, the Warriors are looking to be a top five team at this year’s National Duals Tournament. Head Coach Paul Rademacher has brought in an underrated freshman class and is on the hunt to have seven All-American’s this season. View full article

  13. Big Mendez fan but 133 is really tough. I am thinking 6-8 or round of 12 this year. Biggest thing will be how he gets out from bottom. Was really hoping he would redshirt and then I think he would have been in the category as a 4x champion. RBY and Fix will be 1 and 2 if healthy. Good luck to Mendez he is fun to watch.

Not sure but possibly a slight drop on the board because 1. He maybe going HWT this year? 2. its not a pound for pound ranking rather Seniors and maybe the rarity of quality wrestlers at the other weights? 3. He did not go to Elite 8 or Super 32and that may vape cause a slide down in the eyes of the ranker? 4. Maybe the ranker has a bias? I noticed that his college was blank??? Did he pull his commitment from Penn?

    Team State 2023

If your reading it as an attack on small schools your probably not in the top 8 in 1A.... Oh I see ,South Adams the 11th team in 1A. Imagine if EMD was in 1A and your spot was not secure for the tourney. Because you are the 12 ranked at that point...You have to be voted in in December. I am saying it cant hurt to put 12 teams in each division. Someone said well your be wrestling all day.... What exactly is happening at 1A & 2A with 12 teams there? From what I have on here they do a fantastic job. Does it throw off logistics that much? Maybe I have not been clear. I just want it to be evened out on teams in each division. To me it makes no sense to dispute that. I am not the best at articulating my point in an email. I am a better speaker to get my point across. Anyway sorry to get everyone bothered.

    Team State 2023

For what it is worth, I agree with your sentiment about wanting to give more teams more opportunities. I believe the addition of this version Team State, run by the IHSWCA, has been an amazing addition and has done just that, to give teams more opportunities. I personally do not mind that it is not IHSAA sponsored and think I think that it is run more effectively with the IHSWCA than it would with the IHSAA anyways. If the venue allows for 12, then I suppose I agree this could be beneficial but just wanted to give you some stats. 4a - 38 total schools (21% of schools qualify for team state) 3a - 56 total schools (14% of schools qualify for team state) 2a - 85 total schools (14% of schools qualify for team state) 1a - 85 total schools (14% of schools qualify for team state) *Numbers may be slightly off as I just counted the qualification sheet on the Team State leaderboard page. EMD and Cathedral are counted in that 4a total above. To your point they "take" 2 spots every year. If you remove them, and only consider that 6 schools make it out of the 36, then that is 17% of schools that qualify for Team state. I agree that if they can do 12 schools, then why not. However, you do have to remember that 3a + 4a is basically just one class split into 2. When you look at it that way, that class gets 16 qualifiers for Team State. It is very unfortunate when you have potentially your best team in school history and you are being bumped to 4a when you could potentially qualify for 3a but they do have to draw the line somewhere. Again, I agree with your sentiment but just wanted to throw some numbers out there. I think this event is great and I am sure the powers that be appreciate any input for this event as well. Each year they seem very open to changes and constructive criticism to make this event even better.

    Team State 2023

3 years I have been on here lobbying for Winamac to get (and Earn) an invite to Team State... I spit out many many statistics and comparisons to teams that were going and each year just felt CHEATED by the system.... couldn't understand how others were more deserving than our program based on given information. The hardest part was comparing teams that don't see each other... ECC Semi-State vs Fort Wayne Semi-State, The always viewed weak Logansport Regional, and now to see that what so many people started working for almost 9 years ago to rebuild a program from 7 total wrestlers in the wrestling room to EARNING enough respect as a program from the selection committee (obviously not amongst all coaches in the northern half of the state) to be invited to TEAM STATE..... I am so very thankful... I have no words to express the gratitude for this recognition... The part that excites me most is how this will ENERGIZE our kids and our community... These kids that have put in the work even when they had been knocked down time and time again. The FUEL this honor will provide our program can't be matched.... This experience for our kids will not be something that could be replicated anywhere.... I see and now understand that I was wrong the last 3 years.... focusing on the negative of not being invited was not fair to those that were invited and to all those programs I do publicly apologize.... wished I would have learned that sooner.... Side note.... To see Rochester, West Central, and Winamac all invited to Team State is so awesome for our little area!!! Great job head coaches and all supporters of each of those programs!! Best of luck to each!!!
