blueandgold
First, let me preface this by saying @Christopher Bohn’s hot dog thread is one of the greatest things to hit this site and it is the inspiration behind this post. Second, we all know the Region is home to the best food in the state of Indiana, even though it doesn’t have a Mr. Beef (R.I.P. to the owner). So, with that precedent set by the 219, Evansville has a tall task in order to deliver the goods on the cuisine, and for me, it’s simple a question: Does Evansville have a good beef Polish? Indianapolis has plenty of places you can buy Chicago-style food, but most suck, and then there’s Portillo’s, which is eh in recent years, but Evansville might be able to deliver something different. So, for any travelers this weekend or Eville residents, let us know if the southwest section of the 812 has a simple, yet classic bite that is good for any sports fan. Ahawkeye
Been waiting for this one! As far as a beef polish yes I would say Triple B hit it on the head with Gerst house. My pizza recommendations are as follows: Spanky's Pizza, Broadway Pizza this one is a little bit out of the way. Or Turoni's Pizza. Knowing that time is of the essence sometimes you might want to call ahead and order to go at all three places. If you go down to Franklin Street on one of the shuttles you really should try the Pizza King stromboli it's true they are a little hit and miss at times but if you get a good one you'll know it! My favorite Chinese restaurant is a place called Yen Ching on Green River Road I love ordering their entrees extra spicy but you better have a plan for a bathroom afterwards! I hear China Bistro is good but I've never been there. The Hilltop Inn is Good Ol' Tavern food! Plenty of fried Delicacies to be had! If you are of age and are looking to have some fun after finals the casino is obviously nearby and there are several bars that stay open late on Franklin Street my favorite of these is called the Sportsman's not a lot of Flash but plenty of pool tables if that's your thing. If you're looking for flash try Chasers or buds bar also on Franklin. Bud's has a loaded nachos platter that is out of this world! If you brought your wallet and you went a good steak you can try Cavanaugh's in the casino District or you can try Cork and cleaver I would suggest reservations on both. If you are willing to Brave going to the outskirts of Evansville there are a few bars and taverns that get my nod as well but if you're really interested in those let me know and I'll send you that way. Good recommendation, but it is Parkway Pizza, not Broadway. It is on Broadway ave. Angelo's on Main is good Italian. Zuki on main if you want hibachi/sushi. Sauced in the Hainey's corner area is excellent. Kite and Key on Franklin for breakfast is awesome, but get there early. Or pick up Donut Bank if you are in a hurry. Grenadier2012
I miss old downtown Evansville. Specifically Hammerheads. Home of nickel PBR’s and the “stance dance”. Heck, if you stayed late enough you could even get beat up with some beer bottles. boilergrappler
