Back to the original question, for sectional seeding we did NOT use girls records from the girls only tournaments (there were five of them, seven if you include regionals and state). This despite those events being two point weigh-ins that DID count in the IHSAA system. This further demonstrates the need for girls wrestling to be separated out as its own sport, IMHO.

I would also add there was plenty of time last weekend in which the mats were not being used at Gainbridge to have afforded the Girls State Finals to have been conducted there with almost zero disruption to the boys finals. Just sayin'.

Are we sure that these count toward their IHSAA point schedule? I can see why the team state would, but the girls events I feel are unique in the fact that boys are not allowed to enter these contests. Can anyone show me were this was ruled upon?

  2. I meant to ask this prior to the start of Sectionals. How many teams count the girls events toward their individual high school records? We did not count any wins or losses accrued during the Regional and State tournament on our wrestler's record because this is not an IHSAA event nor does it count toward their scheduled allotted points. Am I correct in interpreting it this way? This was an issue at our Sectional last year that would have changed the way a kid was seeded had the wins not been counted for the female wrestler. Thoughts?

  3. Some of the 200 level seats are now available. Honestly I have nothing to compare this to when it comes to purchasing reserved seating for a High School event. Obviously there are some kinks that are going to need to be worked out. I do think the pre-sale for the wrestlers was a good idea to have reserved seating for them and family.

  4. Is this how we sounded too when our Semi-State used to produce a similar depth of the Evansville SS? How about when three of the four Regionals feeding into the Semi-State were producing some pretty solid individuals and some not so favorable draws? Well if we did, when the next wave comes around, which it usually does for each semi-state, well at least three, sorry Ft. Wayne, I am going to be a lot more quiet than previous years.

  5. If this is the trade off for getting Reserved seating, I will take it. It is a step in the right direction in my eyes and hopefully can be tweaked in the future after this year to make it better for everyone involved.

I personally would like to see the IHSAA set aside some seats for the parents of the wrestlers in the Finals Saturday night. An accomplishment that great deserves a front row seat for them to watch.

So according to this the sleeves are all good then if they have a pad in them? We have had multiple refs give different directives to our kids each time and all of their sleeves have a pad in them.

I was informed by an Official (psst if you are reading this a little help) at our Sectional, the ruling for this came from Mr. Faulkens in an email. It was explained to us at the Sectional and again at the Regional that it can not be more than 2" above or below the pad. Most have said if it extends and stays tucked in socks, singlet, shoes, etc. they are not looking that closely. However if it comes out and is in violation of the 2" limit, penalties will be assessed. I too mentioned the rule and as it is written in the book and told that the Commissioner's ruling supersedes the rule in the book.

As stated by previous comments here, this seems to be called a little differently everywhere you go and whomever the Official may be at that time. Hopefully our association can get this cleared up and it is clarified moving forward.

Christian Carroll of New Prairie High School 220 pound mini Lesnar is someone most, if not all of us have heard of. We have been running what we call the Carroll clock. It had to do with the amount of time he would spend on the mat from his first match at sectionals all the way to the state finals. The second is whether or not he will get all falls throughout the series. The third was whether or not anyone will get to the second period. The over under was 15 minutes. As of right now he has spent a total of 2:06 at sectionals, and 1:18 at regionals for a grand total of 3 minutes and 24 seconds. What are your predictions over/under, all falls or not, and will anyone make it to the third period?

What kind of odds we talking on this?

If I was a betting man, taking the under, all falls, and no.

    13 correct champs for OTR!

You were about a second and fingers breaking apart close to being 14 of 14. Not sure how much closer that can get. Great match by both guys though, congrats to Sawyer on the title. Good luck next week to all the wrestlers from one of the "weakest" Regionals in the State.

You very well may be correct but the way I understand it is if there is an allowance you would qualify for two weights below if you are under that and wouldn’t be able to bump up more than one weight. For example 138 lber must weigh in over 130 now to be eligible instead of over 128.

This is an excellent question. Can anyone from the IHSWCA get us the correct ruling on this scenario?

Honesty it’s the match we wanted 20 years ago(that feels old to say) with Angel and Reece.

Could we want it again 20 years later? If so, would the bracket Gods ruin it for us? Imagine a showcase match at the end of the tournament in the Fieldhouse(cause I am not really sure what it is called now). One can only hope. I actually mentioned to someone how cool this would have been to see at the Al Smith this year, just glad it happened at least once this year, definitely great for the sport. Great job to both men putting it on the line!

  11. So, maybe this has been brought up somewhere before or even get moved to the appropriate thread. I also know that we had an incredible year at the Olympics for both Men and Women. However, do we think that some of the women's rapid success in the sport is due to the fact that Freestyle is the choice at the Collegiate level? I have not done my own research on this, but are most State's that are sanctioning wrestling for women choosing Folkstyle or Freestyle? Just looking for everyone's thoughts and figured I have not posted anything in quite some time, need to get my new status going up!

  12. Not sure if this has been posted, but here are the numbers and the growth of the tournament:

    2017 - North(278), South(128), Indy Nats(116) - STATE(291)

    2018 - North(165), South(158), Indy Nats(302) - STATE(390)

    2019 - North(229), South(209), Indy Nats(389) - STATE(487)

    2020 - North(391), South(295), Indy Nats(413) - STATE(525)

So how about some discussion as to where we go from here.  This tournament has definitely grown.  Will it eventually level off?

Also, could someone give us an ideal of how many entries actual qualified from the Indy Nats?

  13. This will be 30 in a row for me. Qualified for 3, placed in 2 of them. Coached in some capacity in 7 of them.

So many memories, too many to count, but so many heartbreaks as well. What a great weekend, especially seeing old friends and making new. Hoping I am fortunate to see 30 plus more!

Good luck to everyone this weekend and remember that regardless of what happens you are part of one of the greatest fraternities in the world.

It's actually the Las Vegas Raiders now, and they will be just fine. Beautiful stadium being built. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Super Bowl in the near future. I think you are getting the Raiders and the Patriots confused (Tuck rule, Deflate Gate, Video espionage). The Tuck Rule game probably cost the Raiders a Super Bowl. The Patriots are the ones that have been busted multiple times recently. You have to go back to the Stick Um days to bust the Raiders. Congrats on your first championship in 50 years. The Chiefs needed the Cardinals and the Rams to leave St. Louis so they could be the best team in Missouri. I do like Mahomes though...just hope you can keep him around.

Excuse me, but I think you mean the great State of Kansas for the Chiefs.

  15. Someone has mentioned to me that it is possible to reach an NCAA tournament, any division, quicker than it is our own State Tournament.  If this is indeed true, then we should seriously look at our system to correct this flaw.

I will reference a very good young Official here by the name of Eric McGill.  He is doing numerous college matches at the Division 1 level.  Surely if he has a weekend open to do any level of our tournament, why in the world would we pass? If there are other high level officials available as well, let’s get them involved too. We know some of our better guys are getting up in age and they are constantly preaching that we are at a shortage. I agree we have to recruit young guys to get more involved, but let’s think outside the box too and recruit some experienced guys at the higher level as well.

    Thoughts?
