Howe did he do at the Olympics?? Because Howe… although he didn’t make it, also lost in OT to several gold
    medalists. If Howe could claim
serbian or Canadian or any other country and make it to the Olympics he would have medaled.

The DQ was in the semi final. The ref should have stopped it immediately after Cramblett put his head right under Goodwin’s kneecap and started forcing pressure against the knee joint on a straight leg. It looked like he continued to put pressure on the knee even after the whistle.

That’s the first time I’ve seen a wrestler try that from the bottom. Usually they lift the knee over their head. In light of the illegal slam to his head/neck (2nd week in a row) and out of bounds continued wrestling where Goodwin had to jerk his arm free, Goodwin may have interpreted that head on kneecap move as an intentional attempt to injure him.

When my son was in 7th grade, a kid did a low single from the neutral position (not bottom) and put his head near the same knee spot instead of lower on the shin. The MRI showed fluid leaking from his kneecap, and he had to miss XC conference and the first few weeks of wrestling practice in a leg brace.

Goodwin was entirely justified in pushing Cramblett’s head off his kneecap since the ref wasn’t stopping it and his coach wasn’t protesting. A DQ beats getting carried off in a stretcher with an ACL, Meniscus, or PCL tear.

Respect to CP and BB for taking on the most brutal schedule for an Indiana team, EVER. None of their state champs this year will be undefeated. This is what Indiana needs to take its wrestling to the next level.

With a heavy heart I would like to let the wrestling community know that one of the long time region youth coaches passed away. Luis Acuna long time coach at many of the local clubs and most recently RWA passed. Luis had a love for our great sport and volunteered countless hours to our sport. He leave behind 4 sons and his wife . Please keep Luis in your thoughts and prayers. A gofund me page has been setup to help the family in their time of need.

The DAC is gonna be fun this year. Crown Point is the obvious best team in the DAC, but Chesterton always has a solid squad, and is led by state placers Hayden Demarco and Aidan Torres. Merriville also has a strong team, with a pair of Maldonado wrestlers in Matthew and David, along with returning qualifier Lucas Clement. Portage also has a solid team, and is led by E'Shawn Tolbert, with semi-state qualifiers Owen Bunton and Manolo Hood looking to break through to the state tournament. Outside of these four teams, I think Lake Central could challenge for a top 4 spot in the conference, with Mason Jones and Guillermo Rivera leading the pack. LaPorte also is home to the state's only current multiple time state champ with Ashton Jackson, along with Josh England, who I think will have a breakthrough year this year and join Ashton to have multiple black and orange wrestlers down at Gainbridge this year. Also in the DAC is Valparaiso and Michigan City, who currently have no state ranked wrestlers, but have produced talented wrestlers in the past.

I think the biggest competitor for the toughest conference in Indiana is the HCC, with plenty of tough schools in this conference, including Brownsburg, who are the clear favorite to be the best in the conference and the toughest challenge for Crown Point as the best wrestling team in Indiana. Avon is another team with plenty of state quality wrestlers, such as the Rioux brothers, Seth Syra, and multiple time placer Cheaney Schoeff, and is Brownsburg's biggest challenge in the conference. Every team in this conference sends at least one ranked wrestler to compete for an HCC title, with Fishers having state qualifier Griffin Ingalls, Zionsville with Tommy Frazier and Luke Penola, Noblesville with Austin Hastings, Hamilton Southeastern with Zach Lang and Dom Burgett, Franklin Central with Andrew Just, and Westfield with Ike O'Neill and Jason Rooney.

I thought that I would do you all a favor and list the ranked wrestlers in each weight class across both conference, to make the best conference debate a little easier. Of course, I also know that I might be missing a really tough conference, so feel free to throw other potential conferences in the mix.

    DAC Ranked Wrestlers
106: #8 Mason Jones, UR Logan Haney or Rianne Murphy (not ranked but both solid wrestlers)
    113: #2 Gavin Jendreas, #9 E'Shawn Tolbert
120: #1 Ashton Jackson, #13 Sonny Sessa, #19 Matthew Maldonado, #20 Owen Bunton
    126: #1 Logan Frazier, #14 Guillermo Rivera
    132: #7 Hayden Demarco, #8 David Maldonado
    138: #7 Lucas Clement, #13 Evan Cruz
145: #1 Aidan Torres, #2 Anthony Bahl, #7 Carlos Perez
    152: #14 Adrian Pellot
    160: #1 Sam Goin
    170: #2 Cody Goodwin
    182: #1 Orlando Cruz
    195: #9 Anthony White
    220: #1 Will Clark
    285: #3 Paul Clark

    HCC Ranked Wrestlers
    106: #2 Revin Dickman, #4 Nathan Rioux
113: #1 Preston Haines, #4 Luke Rioux, #13 Tommy Frazier
    120: #2 Jake Hockaday
    126: #6 Griffin Ingalls, #11 Landen Haines
    132: #4 Brady Ison, #11 Seth Syra
    138: #3 Cheaney Schoeff, #4 Parker Reynolds
    145: #6 Ike O'Neill, #8 Zach Lang, #9 Mason Day
    152: #20 Jesse Derringer
    160: #13 Jason Rooney
    170: #17 Luke Penola
    182: #8 Caden Brewer
    195: #2 Gunner Henry
    220: #14 Austin Hastings
285: #2 Leighton Jones, #7 Dom Burgett, #11 Andrew Just

I find it interesting after listing the ranked wrestlers that the depth of 106-145 of these conferences seems to be a lot tougher than 152-285, which name just one ranked wrestler across each weight class, with the exception of the HCC's 285 bracket (which I think Jones and Burgett is gonna be a great match). Just a funny thing that I noticed.

Gonna end this with some stats, and then I gotta go do homework that I've been procrastinating on by writing this.

    DAC Ranked Wrestlers: 23
    HCC Ranked Wrestlers: 24
Total Ranked Wrestlers: 47 = 5.96% of ranked wrestlers in the state

DAC Top 8 Ranked Wrestlers: 15
HCC Top 8 Ranked Wrestlers: 15
Total Top 8 Ranked Wrestlers: 30 = 26.79% of top 8 ranked wrestlers in the state

    DAC #1 Ranked Wrestlers: 6
    HCC #1 Ranked Wrestlers: 1
Total #1 Ranked Wrestlers: 7 = 50% of #1 ranked wrestlers in the state

None of those guys you named won 2 straight NCAA Titles and Nick only wrestled 3 years in HS.. He also placed 3rd at the trials beating current 3x defending NCAA champ,US national champ world team member and 2x age division world Champ , Pan am champ, Yianni 16-8, Handled 3x Big ten/NCAA Champ, Cadet world Champ and world cup champ, Retherford 10-4 in the same day.. He's also got a while left to add to his accolades..HS state titles def hold weight but He's won more NCAA Titles than everybody you listed,5xAA, And if we look at his Skillset he's Just as good as any of those guys if not better..Howe IMHO has the best overall career up to this point but I think Lee is just as good as will surpass him.

I don't know his mat accomplishments as much as his brother's, but I do want to say I was very, very happy to see Ray Pettit from Hammond ref at state this year.  He wrestled under Karl Deak at Hammond High and has been a spot-on official at every event I was at when coaching.  He is as much of a kind gentleman as he is a great ref.

There is no way State finals could be held on the same weekend as the NBA All-Star weekend.   If you look at the number of people who attend this event, it's crazy.   It's not just a game.  It is a full weekend of events.  There would be no hotel rooms, no where to eat and the number of people just walking around would be crazy.  Only solution would be move it to another weekend.  I just can not see having State finals any where else other than downtown Indianapolis.  I know in the 80's we had it at New Castle because of the weather.  I was there and it was not the same electric feeling as MSA, Conseco or now Gainbridge.   Do not care what anyone says nothing compares to spending the weekend in Indy for State Finals.

    I am not a lawyer.

Ok so this begs the question....
Were you or any of your party maliciously damaging the elevator? Was any of your party jumping on or in the elevator?

I sincerely hope the answer is no, however if you or part of your party were involved in any way then I say yes you are liable for the charges.

Here's where it gets to be a tough spot, if you or your party were not involved in any way then how does anyone fight this? The CC company won't back you up and getting a lawyer would be too expensive for a $300 charge. Would this fall under small claims court? If so would it be worth a trip back to Indy just to fight a $300 charge? Or would you even have to go to Indy? I would request a copy of the video before proceeding.

    Good luck.

The Cascade team will be all over the place this summer. I think the difference is providing opportunities. Provide as many free opportunities as you can when it comes to practice/training. Offer to take kids to local RTCs and Open Rooms. Do whatever you can to give these kids every opportunity they could possibly want! At every single level from HS - Youth.

Very true. Typically, success breeds more success. Just comparing BB and BD a little since it was brought up and their comparable access to clubs, rtc's, clinics, etc.

Look at what Brownsburg has done since 2014: 147 dual wins and all types of team accolades, 50+ qualifiers, 40+ medalists, 6 state champs (probably off a little somewhere)

Ben Davis since 2014: 60ish dual wins, 8 qualifiers, 5 placers,1 champ (probably off a little too)

The BD kids have similar opportunities due to their proximity to Brownsburg, Indy, and so on.Just because the opportunities are more accessible to certain schools of similar size in certain areas of the state, some schools just aren't going to have that same type of success.

Different schools = different kids, as well as different coaches, parents, admin, etc., with different interests and goals too.

Some kids/parents may choose to pick up and move schools to pursue those opportunities at other places because they have the means in which to do so.  Other kids/parents may choose not to, maybe they don't have the means to do so either.

I am not sure if there is a one size fits all approach to balance or fix things.  Mat time, lots of exposure to multiple coaches and practices partners, camps, clinics, off-season events, setting goals and working towards them, seeking out tough competition, making sacrifices.....there is so much to do in order to reach that pinnacle.
