base reacted to LUBWrestler in PIN - Indiana Representation
USA Wrestling developed the Performance Index (PIN) April of 2023 as a new data-driven measurement for every athlete member of the organization who has results at USA Wrestling events, United World Wrestling events and other major competitions.
The PIN was used to separate athletes at a number of major USA Wrestling national events this spring and summer, with an excellent record of predicting what athletes might reach the finals or earn a spot on the podium.

Can you imagine DeSanto cutting weight? He already seems crabby. Imagine dealing with him on a day to day basis and then not feed him! Yikes!

base reacted to maligned in Mendez U20 (Junior) world team member
Jesse battled through the challenge tournament and best of 3 finals today to earn a u20 (formerly juniors) World Team spot at 65kg (143lb). Also, his OSU teammate Bouzakis, who beat him out for the 61kg spot last year, is the 61kg rep again.

base got a reaction from HWTDAD in Thoughts on Possible College Rule Changes?
For a takedown, you score points inversely proportional to the difference in enrollments of the two schools
Small school takes down big school = 6-8 points
Big school takes down small school = 0.3 - 1.9 points
Referees will have a wrist calculator and a small abacus attached at the waist with a bungee cord

The wrestling gods heard my demands and then acquiesced to all of them in their great wisdom. Now i will cash in my remaining 3 years of eligibility and attend Ancilla or Thrine and win my National Title as a 52 year old who hasn't wrestled a competitive match since I'm 26. Disney movie here I come.

First column is the hypothetical current tech fall takedown progression The second column shows the new rule progression. I would much rather see a tech on the feet end more quickly than see someone be ragdolled.

I definitely hate it for a school or program, to bring a kid into their ,program by a vigilant coach ,where he was a relative unknown, and give him a stage to perform, and then stolen by a coach who knew nothing about him. Because he has money. Lazy man recruiting.

The West Lafayette Contingent has submitted there final bid proposal to the IHSAA state tournament selection committee. Besides being the most central location, having the largest capacity stadium, the best announcer available and a superior hotel rating and more hotels then the Evansvile area. The WL contingent has submitted with there bid, some other positive aspects in the greater Lafayette area.
The WL contingent did a study on found out that, the top 100 restaurants in the Greater Lafayette area had a higher trip advisor rating average then the top 100 at Evansville. Im sure #SWINfan would be disappointed in this development. The Greater Lafayette avg was 4.24 and vs 4.1 in Evansville. The IHSAA executive committee is putting a lot of weight on local ammenities and was impressed with the Greater Lafayette area.
Also, things added to the proposal was a host a concert featuring local musicians at Mackey after the wrestling Friday night. We thought a good way to keep crowd around to watch the heavyweights. We have a possible commitment from a local musician named Axl Rose and his band "Guns N Roses". You might of heard of them. He supposedly wrestled on the Lafayette Jeff mat when he went to school there and apparently is a big wrestling fan.
Also, We have a possible commitment to host a weekend long party at the Neon Cactus for the wrestling community, and are going to rename it for thet weekend :"Winners Bay".
Also, in effort to set a record in attendance at the state finals, the contingent group came up with novel idea to draw a large crowd from the Region. We have a request out to prominent "Region" members to temporarily allow the greater Lafayette area to have "Region" status for that weekend.
The IHSAA selection committee has been pleased with the communication, and was quoted as saying that "If Indianaoplis is the heart of Indiana, then West Lafayette is the brain". What does that make Evansville, the feet?

133 - #3 Vito Arujau (1st)
141 - #10 Lachlan McNeil (4th)

base got a reaction from John Thornton in Ramos
Incredible victory by Ramos and Purdue! Has to be up there among the greatest upsets in NCAA ever. It seems clear that Ramos (who nearly lost 2 rounds earlier) had prepared specifically to face Lee.
By the way, discussion on this is on the College Wrestling forum

Rundown of people's lineups:
125: Lee x 11, Poulin, McKee
133: Mendez x 5, Byrd x 3, Latona x 2, Nagao, RBY, Vito
141: Bartlett x 6, Jack x 2, Hardy, McNeil, Young, Woods, Hart
149: Yianni x 6, Gomez x 4, Blockhus, Murin, Henson
157: Andonian x 5, Coleman x 2, Saldate x 2, Humphreys x 2, Cardenas, Robb
165: Amine x 4, Monday x 3, Hamiti x 2, Griffith, Kharchla, Olejnik, Facundo
174: Starocci x 7, Lewis x 2, Smith x 2, Picklo, Jordan

197: Allred x 5, Dean x 4, Sloan, Beard, Elam, Smith

Pretty good variety. You'd need to take at least one guy who's been taken by 2 guys or less even if you're trying to copy everyone.

For the heck of it, trying to pick a complete lineup that nobody else has chosen. Could be disastrous 🙂 but hey will be fun for me and will give me interest in some other matches
125 #6 Stevo Poulin - Northern Colorado (remember the old YouTube videos of him stomping around as a little kid with the mohawk??)
133 #1 RBY - Penn State (surprised nobody has chosen him)
141 #1 Real Woods - Iowa
149 #4 Caleb Henson - Virginia Tech
157 #6 Daniel Cardenas - Stanford
165 #13 Alex Facundo - Penn State ## WILDCARD
174 #18 Tate Picklo - Oklahoma
184 #10 Travis Wittlake - Oklahoma State
197 #3 Rocky Elam - Missouri
285 #10 Zach Elam - Missouri (wanted Mason here, but couldn't make it work with my other weights - can't believe nobody has picked him yet!)
Good luck and go Purdue/IU and Indiana boys!

base reacted to ENoblewrestling in Bryce Denton
Here is a story that I felt was worth sharing with the community that involved Bryce, I don't generally like sharing stuff involving my kids, but felt he deserved credit for this.
My middle son (8 years old) had lost in the state semi-finals, and was not handling it very well. We were in the cafeteria wrestling area, and he was having a "freak-out" (he needs to work on this) in the area behind the mats. I was trying to talk to him to calm down, but he was not registering what dad/coach was saying.
While this was going on a high school kid was passing through and asked me if he could talk to him. The high schooler sat down with my son, and told him about how he had never placed at ISWA until this weekend, and he had won it today. He discussed how wrestling isn't just about wins and losses, but about progress. This discussion caused my son to calm down, stop crying, and go on to wrestle the rest of his matches and place third. As he left I asked the high school kid his name, he said Bryce Denton. I told him I had heard of him lol.
Anyhow I was really impressed with the maturity and kindness that Bryce showed this weekend. I had never met him. As a dad I was worrying what people thought of me/my son with the way he was acting, and Bryce was awesome in helping to calm him down and put things in perspective. Also in my opinion it took a lot of bravery to ask a dad that you had never met to talk with his son in a situation like that. Just wanted to share this and publicly say thanks to Bryce. I was blown away with how impressive he was in this situation.

base reacted to Dave Cloud in Indiana Heavyweights Rule!!! And now it's official!
So Jack Heldt (Wabash/Carmel) captured the D III national heavyweight title and Shawn Streck (Central Oklahoma/Merrillville) won the D II heavyweight title and now Mason Parris is the D I national champ. This is an unbelievable achievement. Indiana should be proud of these three young men.

Flip side of this is the kid that grew up in the school system and now after all their hard work, has to take a seat because the superstar moved in. We focus so much time on the top talent and forget about the blue-collar types that are putting the work in and waiting to get their shot
