Just to clarify for those that don't understand about allocations: they are given based on the very specific quality level of the specific individuals that make up your conference's talent pool at each weight.  Having more allocations--no matter the number of schools involved in your tournament--means there are more quality individuals to beat.  If you earn NCAA spots from those allocated amounts, you've earned a spot that either a) your guy earned for your conference and then rightfully claimed with his tourney performance or your guy took by beating others who earned them during the season.  There is no other way to get an allocated spot.  They don't magically appear because you add two sub-par teams to your conference.   If you only needed 9th place this year compared to needing 8th place last year, that means your conference had 9 qualification-worthy guys this year compared to only 8 qualification-worthy guys last year.

    A list of simple facts:
    1. Purdue 2015 went 10-8 (3-6 conference), while Purdue 2014 went 6-8 (1-7 conference).
    2. Purdue 2015's dual meet point differential was 2 points better per dual than 2014 in 8 common Division I duals and 4 points better in all common duals.
    3. Purdue 2015 had 3 wins over teams ranked at the time of the match.  In 2014, they had none.
    4. Purdue 2015 finished the season ranked, while in 2014 they did not.
    5. Purdue 2015 qualified 8 guys for NCAA's compared to 4 in 2014 when the system for determining the depth of your conference's individuals for allocation purposes was exactly the same, no matter the number of teams (side note: if you want to ignore Rutgers and Maryland's presence, Purdue's B1G tournament placement per guy against only the 12 teams of the previous Big 10 was about 0.5 spots higher on average in 2015 than in 2014)

There are lots of reasons why this simple list of facts may or may not prove anything, but the simple truth remains: Purdue's results this year have been slightly better than last year.  I will say the same thing I've said all along: the only way to measure how the new staff is doing is to look at tried and true results--free from excuses--over the long haul.  These facts I listed are a small OBJECTIVE part of that picture going forward for those of us who have no association with the program and are just hopeful that our state's universities will perform well.

I don't think you're the one to look at it objectively.

    1. Allocations are based on the quality of competition. The Big 10 has a lot of quality, thus it gets many allocations
    2. Maryland and Rutgers are solid programs, Maryland is down this year but will be back up soon
    3. You get the Welches back healthy, but have an unhealthy Atwood. Atwood has been a 10-15 ranked guy his whole career, while the Welches have flirted with top 20 rankings. A healthy Atwood is a serious AA contender, the Welches can push for a spot on the podium, but will have to perform better than their seeds.
    4. They have been bad the last 5 years.....neither is exceptionally worse or better this year than they were last year or the year before
    5. The 9th place matches didn't count

It is way too early to call Ersland a bust nor a great hire. He's barely 9 months into the job. Maybe you are just upset because someone close to you is riding the pine and you think they should be GIVEN a spot in the lineup.

I'm at the DIII regional at Wabash and boy you wouldn't know that these kids are qualifying for a classed national tournament. Fans are excited, coaches screaming, wrestlers laying it all on line. Of course many of you shun this type of classed wrestling. It's too bad because there are some tough kids and great wrestling.

I don't usually get into many discussions on here, especially about class wrestling. I just feel like we are too divided and no matter how I express my point, I'm never going to convince those that believe "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I for one love our individual state finals and I really enjoyed our experience at team state this year. But...our individual finals is broken. When you have the disparity we have in SQ and place winners that we have, something is wrong.

I'll give you an example that is not wrestling related. My daughter qualified with her 200 relay team for the swim state finals this year. She's a fine swimmer and works her tail off, so did her teammates! They were seeded 32 and finished 29th. Rochester was the smallest school represented at state in ANY events! Twin Lakes was the second smallest. Everyone one else were 4A and 5A schools. If it was classed my daughter and her team would have been state champs in the 200 free relay. No other times from small schools were even close. They, our school, and her mom and I would have been just fine with that because they put in the work to be that good. The issue is we don't have the same resources that the Carmels, Penns, etc have. We just don't. That's not a matter of opinion...its a fact because I live it. We provide her with every opportunity we can but we can't provide her with what the Carmel Swim club can provide its' kids. If you think sports like wrestling and swimming shouldn't be classed, then you just dont get it or you don't care to.

Tomorrow Rochester will play Tippy Valley for the class 2A semi state bball title and I'll bet anyone we have more fans in attendance for the little ole 2A game then you will for any other game in the state. Over 5,000 tickets have been pre sold and they are not sure there will be enough parking at Warsaw HS (5A) school. Class all sports, give the small schools a chance to build their brand, and I think you'll see some great stuff happen in Indiana Wrestling. As an association we can get this done if we get on the same page!!

Things are where they should be. You want to compare a big school JV guy who has wrestled for a few years vs a small school varsity guy wrestling his first year to fill a spot? Big schools are set up to have more qualifiers because they have more guys and more experience to pull from. These stats are what they should be.

I'm for class wrestling not because these stats should be equal but because these stats show it is unfair.

Swallow his pride? He is ranked number 1 in the country. What more does he have to do? He didn't look huge to me. He looked like a 126lber. He wrestled 106 as a freshman. Nick Lee 126. No disrespect I believe Lee is bigger. James beat CJ in the offseason. CJ still won state. It's not CJ's job to wrestle Nick Lee. It's CJ's job to win state for New Pal and himself. All these mythical match ups mean nothing. All that he should make it happen stuff sounds to me like you want him to lose. That's terrible if you just want a kid to lose and he is not presently facing your kid, or a your kids teammate or club member. That's the unwritten rule or you sir have sour grapes. Nick Lee is great, matter of fact I had him against Micic. So nothing against him; who ever says they know for certain Lee would win are either clairvoyant or delusional.

I feel like you're describing tournament outstanding wrestler.  Is that what Mr. Gorilla is?  I thought it was for the best senior wrestler of the year--which for me would have to take a look at his entire season and career.  That's why I said I can't imagine anyone but Forte, Cash, or Pepple winning the award if they win titles.

Expanding the numbers will do nothing. Wrestlers, coaches, and parents just need to start accepting the fact that the wrestler lost and didn't do there job of winning the match. It's as simple as that. Too many should of's, would of's, and could of's...How can we change the tournament so that my kid, or wrestler gets to state? This is where the participation ribbon mindset is starting to engulf the true competition of not only the state tournament, but any tournament in general.

If this is your first time or in my case the last time.  Make sure you enjoy the ride.
What a absolute privilege it has been to go on this journey with my son.
There has been some incredible highs and some bitter disappointment.  But
    the journey has been awesome!
I can remember when his first goal was to get threw an open tournament without getting pinned.
His second match was against the ISWA champion.  A girl named Kayla Miracle.  Needless to say.
He lost.  His second goal was to win half his matches.  After that they just kept getting a little harder
and a little harder.  It was a long journey to get to this point and It could not have had more fun.
In the end,  there is only one guy who gets his hand raised.  But if you
made it this far you are a Champion in my book.
Good luck to everyone this weekend.  Hope you enjoy the ride!

Some hearty congratulations are due to this Castle stud for pulling off what has to be the biggest upset of the D1 season. The Boilermaker has been turning it on lately, but his 5-4 TB win over #2 James Green was nothing less than spectacular, and has to be the best win by a Purdue or IU wrestler in recent memory. Great job, and I hope this is a springboard to a strong finish to his season.

I can't speak for the Guru, but based on what I saw Friday night I'd have to say that not all of the wrestlers are working the "Aggressive Always"mantra. There was a noticeable amount of stalling once a couple of the guys got a small lead. But, that was only with a couple of the guys I felt were wrestling that way. As for the rest of the guys, they looked extremely aggressive and hungry from start to finish. And also from the results of the Roadrunner Open, I'd say that they were wrestling very aggressive, based on the amount of bonus points they racked up. Excited to see if it will carry on thru the season.

Harrison just brought Scott Hinkle in as a coach, so Harrison will definitely improve with him in the practice room everyday. I think that will push them into the top 5 for this semi-state.
