NavyGonzo reacted to The Berne Witness in FW Semi-State Webcast
The Berne Witness will webcast every round, and attempt to get every match, of the Fort Wayne Semi-State this Saturday. Watch on our website at bernewitness.com via the Livestream app (look up Witness Media) or through Facebook Live.
We will not remove our archives out of respect to our advertisers, and since we can only have them up for a limited amount of time due to IHSAA broadcasting regulations.

NavyGonzo got a reaction from FCFIGHTER170 in 132 super bracket from the past 15 years
Squeak out? Pretty sure he won 5-1, controlling most of the match... That's not what I would call squeaking out...

Asa Garcia had one heck of a run from semistate on

also Terrell. Coatie of Perry and New Castle pinned State champ Danny Williams and decisioned Runner Up Conkling before being upset by a VERY GOOD tim ortiz of belmont where he placed 5th..

NavyGonzo reacted to Blane Culp in Best School To Never Have A Champ
Columbia City has had 1 kid in the finals twice and have had a couple of 3rds. But never have had a State Champ. We have been to the original team state 3 times, and the new version once.

NavyGonzo reacted to Caleb Spires in Indiana modern day best wrestler
Jason Tsirtsis. The guy was a 4xer, unanimous national #1 his senior year, and handled NCAA champion Caldwell before even graduating high school.

NavyGonzo reacted to Smooth34 in Question for anyone who may have the answer...
We definitely needed another topic on class wrestling.

NavyGonzo reacted to Y2CJ41 in Question for anyone who may have the answer...
Mater Dei bumps up for team state, they would probably bump up classes for individual state.
If you are basing the reason to stay a single class state on one match out of 280, that's pretty weak.

NavyGonzo reacted to DelCo in Any change of hearts?
I think I'm finally on board with the class wrestling. It makes a lot of sense once data is present. If we want to grow this sport, this is a must. More participation= better competition

NavyGonzo reacted to maligned in Best Match Ever
In one of the two most legendary non-state matches (the other being Rosbottom vs. Jankowski), this is returning state placer Andrew Bradbury (a senior) wrestling returning state champion Josh Birge (a senior) in the round to go at Merrillville at 119 in 1999. Bradbury sends the champ packing in a wild 13-12 decision. The match happened because Bradbury had to wrestle eventual state champ Ramos at regional. He would go on to place 2nd to Ramos at state.

NavyGonzo reacted to aSnyder14 in Best wrestler to never win State
Depending on if this is strictly high school or if it goes further into college I would say Riley Lefever of Carroll. He lost once senior year in the state finals, but has since moved on to win 2 DIII titles at Wabash

NavyGonzo reacted to Walter Sobchak in Humility
He showed real Humility when he pushed Caldwell. His face was NOT straight or calm that day.
We have a tendency to look for information that confirms what we already believe. We all have faults and should not be so quick to judge or criticize the actions of others.

NavyGonzo reacted to Y2CJ41 in Any change of hearts?
Goodness, so we have a "match of the century" and it all of a sudden erases all of the statistics that show small schools are struggling mightily. WOW!

NavyGonzo reacted to munges in Best wrestler to never win State
Wasn't Baker a 4 time Al Smith champion as well?

NavyGonzo reacted to guillotine in Best wrestler to never win State
Baker is one i forgot about. He was a very good technical wrestler. What places did he finish his career with?

NavyGonzo reacted to navy80 in Chad Red beats 2X Kentucky State Champ 11-5 over Xmas
I had to think of a catchy title for advertising purposes! The Mater Dei Classic is not as deep as some other tournaments in Indiana and often gets overlooked from "Da Region" or however you northerners call yourself. 15 State Championships were present at the Mater Dei Classic! Also, 132 weight class had a combined 8 state titles between three wrestlers!! Holy smokes!!
132- THREE STATE CHAMPS!
Duncan Trinity 2 time KY state champ
Sheffer Union County 2 time KY state champ
Red New Pal 4 time IN state champ
RESULTS
Duncan over Sheffer 2-2 UTB
Red over Duncan 11-5
(it is worth noting that Duncan was beaten by Lee (7-22) by tech fall and he beat Bethel 4-0 last year. Also, Red pinned Sheffer in 30 seconds last year all at the always tough Mater Dei Classic)
Lets look at some other interesting matchups between state placers and Q’s.
106 Garcia Avon IN state champ over (7-3) Wheeler St. X KY 3rd
113 White New Pal IN 6th over (10-2) Kraezig St. X KY 2nd
120 Ervin Union County KY state champ and runner-up over (3-1) Luigis MD placer and Q.
(not at Mater Dei classic but worth noting) Ervin Union County KY state champ and runner-up over (3-2) Rooks CE IN 3rd and 4
152- Oxford UC KY state champ (145), Barton TR KY state champ (152), and Foster BW Illinois 3rd place in 3A, Lehman MD IN SQ, Clark Avon IN 7th
RESULTS: Barton over Lehman 21-10 and 15-5. Foster over Barton 7-2 and over Oxford by pin. Barton over Clark 11-3
160- Van Horn IN runner-up over (by pin) Heidorf Trinity KY state champ
195- Wildeman MD IN 6th place lost to Frankone Trinity (Ironman 6th place, and inj dflt out of state tournament) by a score of 7-2. Wildeman beat Sherman UC, KY 4th place 11-3
These numbers may be lower than correct count I zipped through them.
106-IN- 1st. KY-3rd
113-IN-6th. KY-2nd
120-IN- Q, Q. KY- 2nd (who won state last year)
126-IN- 6th, KY- Q. IL-Q
132-IN-1st, Q. KY- 1st and 1st
138-KY- 7th and Q
145-IN- 1st, 8th, Q. KY-Q
152-IN- Q and 7th. KY-1st and another 1st. IL- 3rd
160-IN- 2nd and Q. KY-1st
170-KY- 3rd
182-IN- Q. KY- 8th
195-IN- 6th. KY-2nd
220-IN- 3rd, Q. KY- Q
285-IN 6th, 5th, and Q. KY- Q
15 State Championships!!
IN-Garcia 1X, Joe Lee 1X, Red 4X (Nick Lee 1X didn’t wrestle in this tournament)
KY-Ervin 1X, Barton 2X, Duncan 2X, Sheffer 2X, Oxford 1X, Heidorf 1X
Not a bad tournament with plenty of diversity from three states! Just inagine if Konrath or Nick Lee would have wrestled! One tough tournament for the southern part of the state...I wonder why more teams down get into it? There seems to always be some openings...

NavyGonzo reacted to boomer in You be the ref... was this an escape?
I was watching that match and there was no lose of control. When they gave the escape point i was just as baffled as you. In my opinion it was a bad call, again there is just no consistency in the calls that are made between refs.
