  1. You have to do the rematch... Brooks gave him a rematch and lost the title back to him via BS DQ... PACIO didn't take anything back, it was given to him
  2. He had a close call in the Semi-Finals that year with a Cathedral kid McGinley... Score was like 6-4 or 7-5?
  3. Delta David Palmer 3X Champ, Runner-up It's probably him for Muncie South as well... Won his first title there as well as his runner-up
  4. I know of at least 9... They met in Regional, Semi-State, and State Championship matches 3 years in a row Depends if they wrestled each other through the regular season or not...
  5. 2004's list of champs was pretty solid. You had: Angel Escobedo - 4X HS Champ, 4X AA and NCAA Div 1 Champ Matt Coughlin - 2X HS Champ, 2X HS Runner-Up, NCAA Div 1 AA Alex Tsirtsis - 4X HS Champ, NCAA Div 1 AA Reece Humphrey - 3X HS Champ, 2X NCAA Div 1 AA Andrae Hernandez - 2X HS Champ, NCAA Div 1 AA Blake Maurer - 4X HS Champ Adam O'Neil - 2X NJCAA AA Darren Elkins - 15-year UFC Veteran Jon Lloyd - NAIA AA
  6. Duke Myers wrestled a perfect match! Great match IQ!!!
  7. The IHSAA has heard our complaints about wrestlebacks and secretly passed an amendment in the night, thus enforcing the "Top 4 only" initiative! You now must win your first two matches to be a placer! They expect a 100% reduction in complaints by moving to this more single elimination model. (Sarcasm disclaimer)
  8. I believe 1984 was the last year they did this. Other major changes that would drive people crazy if still in effect: From late 80's through 2002, the 5/6th place match participants were determined by the winner of the semi-finals matches. Example: You lose in quarter finals, and the wrestler you lost to loses then you wrestle for 7th, if he wins you wrestle for 5th. Through the early 90's, only the top 6 were placers, so back then you could win your first match and not be a placer based entirely on how the wrestler who beat you does in the semi-finals. Wrestle backs to 5th only took effect in 2002 - 2003 season. Basing this on the current strength of the Mooresville Regional. Prior to 2009, only the Top 3 from regional advanced to Semi-State with the winner getting a first round bye. I believe the first year this changed, we had a few state qualifiers who had gotten 4th place at regional, thus justifying the change.
  9. Was there any action taken? Team points or anything? That was truly disgraceful
  10. Again... I respectfully disagree... Not that my bias towards Delta or my horrible West African internet streaming attempt have anything to do with it
  11. I respectfully disagree... Jackson had 2 escapes prior to that last one that "should" have been awarded to him... The potentially dangerous from out of no where and when they went out of bounds and Harris clearly did not have his hands locked around him while facing each other on their feet However, I do agree that the escape that was given was a bad call
  12. My guess would be somewhere around half (Just a guess) This has always been a thing with EMD, Cathedral, and other private schools going back 20+ years when it comes to wrestling... We now live in the age of the "Super Team" with Brownsburg, Crown Point, and Center Grove competing for the best wrestlers... This happens at smaller school systems as well I don't blame parents at all for sending their kids to schools that get better competition, and its even easier now that a lot of people can work from home...
  13. Top 4, in order: 106: Boyd, Barbosa, Byrum, Webb 113: Bollinger, Johns, Reno, Beer 120: Jackson, Douglas, Faurote, Keith 126: Mosier, Daniels, Rowles, Spurlin 132: Bradley, Mosier, Schortgen, Stuffel 138: Wood, Boone, Tuttle, Dubach 144: Rhonemous, Hoppes, Bollenbacher, Wolpert 150: Jett, Luginbill, Byerly, Robinson 157: Davis, Meyer, Davenport, Duncan 165: Stebbins, Myers, Abbott, Cox 175: Russell, Palacios, Flores, Behning 190: Currie, Wenk, Mendez, Ullom 215: Martin, Bluhm, Powers, Ortiz 285: Cruz, Wurm, Moss, Baker
  14. After doing only about 20 minutes of digging back to 1999, the two seasons of "Most State Champions by a Semi-State" I can find are 2006 and 2012 Both seasons had ECSS with 8 individual Champions Same Semi-State has 7 champs in 2004
  15. Wow! Pins Abbott and beats Myers in the same week... Very solid wins!!!
  16. Track is showing Kaeb Stebbins just beat Duke Myers 5-2 Confirmation?
  17. I think this is a double-edged sword... The biggest fault with stalling calls is that I see refs call stalling if you are simply winning, and then sprawl when your opponent takes a shot... Example: Ft. Wayne Semi-State championship match a few years back, I saw one of the most egregious staling calls I have ever witnessed twice (I won't name names, but those who were involved may remember) Score is tied 1 - 1 with about 14 seconds left in 3rd period. No stalling calls to either wrestler at this point. Wrestler A gets a TD and cuts Wrestler B, score is now 3 - 2... 10 seconds left on clock, Wrestler B takes 2 shots, Wrestler A sprawls both times and get hit for stalling twice, once per sprawl. This of course ties the match and Wrestler B wins in sudden victory... My point is that there is ZERO justification on hitting Wrestler A, who has the only offensive points of the entire match, which he just scored, with 2 stalling calls for simply sprawling out to avoid a TD
  18. I am very surprised that you didn't mention 2001 HWT Greg Wagner...
  19. I know I'm on the older side of things, but leaving David Palmer out... Ouch!
  20. Don't remember Greg Wagner? 2000 Runner-up & 2001 Champ Finished 3rd in D1 his senior year in 2006, I believe 4th in 2005 Last College Victory was over former UFC Heavyweight Champ Cain Velasquez
  21. I've always had the belief that there are more factors than just how many times you placed high. An argument that holds the most weight to me is how many wins you have over the State Champs, especially in the season that they earned the title... Again, this is just my opinion, but Ty Mills would be easily #1 with multiple wins, in multiple seasons, over that season's weight class champion. Other notables using my criteria would be Rickie Elkins and Randy Baker Elkins was runner-up as a junior, Nationally-Ranked as a senior, was upset first round in a come-from-behind pin. Had wins over both of the wrestlers who wrestled in the finals that year, including an 8-3 win the following weekend at team state over the champ. Baker was a 4X placer (3,3,6,7). Finished 7th his senior season, beating that season's state champ three times, including Regional and Semi-State. Baker was heavily favored his Junior and Senior seasons, but I believe was dealing with some lingering injuries and was upset in the quarter-finals both years. And yes, a little bit of my "Early-2000's" bias is showing here...
  22. Only due to my relative being involved... Randle's only loss that season was to Steven Gonzales at the first dual tournament of the season, I believe to score was 3-1 or something close to that. Randle avenged it at Semi-State with a last second TD. The regular season of this weight class was insanely back-and-forth and went something like an old Freestyle round-robin tourney: Gonzales beat Randle Randle beat Campbell Todd beat Gonzales Campbell beat Todd I'd hate to have been the rankings guy that year
  23. Rickie Elkins - Portage Shannon Stout - Delta Randy Baker - Bellmont All of these guys beat multiple State Champs, some in the same season...
  24. The Legend that is Naegle. I wrestled on Team Indiana in the 2003 National Duals with Naegle on the Greco team... Can't remember the exact score, but he won one of his matches like 25-18, hitting nearly a dozen headlocks in the process The Coaches on both sides were struggling to hold back their laughter
