With it being a first year tournament, I think it is more about needing to get more mats than more qualifiers.  I know that Fort Wayne is not the preferred location (even for me) after spending all day at a Semi State, but the venue is actually quite nice for running something like this.  Or at least that is what I thought.  I thought that having 16 and 32 man brackets helps our sport, as that gives the athletes the ability to get some quality matches all in the same day, rather than having to go down to Frosh-Soph state and have only wrestled 1-3 times max at the qualifier.  Maybe I am wrong on this, and you can certainly tell me I am.

This was offered to a local club for Sunday, but the event decided that they could not do it for valid reasons.  They brought me and the rest of my volunteers (TrackGopher) in February 3rd to run the tournament.  I have/had many people offer to assist for next year as it definitely will help my club with money.  I already run a tournament the week before, so unless everyone wants to come to Portage for the event, I will not be running it the week prior for next year.

As a parent of a senior wrestling tomorrow. It will be an emotional day. Win or lose tomorrow I am nothing but proud of him and his past 4 years. He has learned so much on that mat, the highs from the wins and the lows of his losses have taught him life lessons I alone could not have taught him. He has made friends from surrounding schools he would have never met had it not have been for wrestling. He has pushed himself further than I could have ever pushed him. His coaches and his team mates have formed him into an incredible young man who has a bright future. Again, nothing but pure pride and joy for him.
I will miss sitting in those bleachers cheering him and his team mates on.
Lets go boys. One more weekend. You got this. I am nothing but blessed to be along for the ride,

Region sports network will be providing live coverage of the state series again this season. Region sports has stepped up the game and added Dan Bedoy on the calumet sectional and regional broadcast. I will be doing crown point again for both. Region sports will also be archiving the semis and finals.

I understand there is basically no reason for our varsity to wrestle "bad" teams even if they are in our conference so it's ok for JV or varsity 2 to wrestle. But I don't like when we wrestle 5 of our "studs" and then list it as a JV win. I feel that's just trying to belittle the other team. But I am an old school I guess. Lol

I wanted to throw an idea out and see what others thought.......

I have read most of the 'class wrestling' vs 'one class' discussions here over the years and I can see the pros and cons of both sides of the argument.  (I also understand that we coach in the largest school in the state)

Right after I started CIA, I remember going to see a big 32 team tourney over winter break to see the finals of kids that trained with us.  I remember looking over to mat 4 and seeing the wrestling for 7th and 8th and then my opinion on class wrestling changed.  Seeing the level of wrestling for 8th place of a 32 team tourney means that there were hypothetically 24 guys worse than the guy getting 8th.  At that moment, my opinion of adding class wrestling moved in favor of starting class wrestling (as long as it keeps our state tourney in Bankers Life...but that's a different story).

If smaller schools had a chance for success against other smaller schools, I can only image that they'd go back to school, pronounce themselves as Sectional champions and get some notoriety in the school and making it more attractive for others to participate and hopefully that would help 'snowball' into a more solid program over time.

I believe that the top 10 percent of Indiana wrestling is as good as it's ever been in our state's history, and the bottom 10% is still the bottom 10%.  What can we do to make sure the 'middle class' of Indiana wrestling is also getting better?  Class wrestling could be something that could help.

Then my thought went to JV teams wrestling in varsity tournaments.  This year Carmel sent their JV to a varsity tourney for the first time.  They finished 7th in a 16 team tourney and had 1 champ.  We were happy for them to have some quality matches.  But if the top 10% of Indiana's teams (I'm definitely saying we're top 10%) didn't send their JV teams to varsity tourneys, wouldn't that leave a place for other teams to have success?

....and if nobody sent their JV to varsity tourneys, wouldn't that mean that we could get better JV tourneys because they would be looking for tough JVs to compete against?

I guess my question is that if we all stopped sending JVs to varsity tourneys, wouldn't it open up places for Indiana's 'middle class' programs to have more success?  I'm thinking if we all stopped sending JV's to varsity tourneys it would be a baby step towards class wrestling and it would make opportunities to have better true JV matches.

Mr. Littell did your son loose the wrestle off with Fair? I have seen your son wrestle at 2 different events this year and don't believe for one second he lost a wrestle off to anyone from PM from 106 to 126! I truly believe Littell places at state at any of the weights from 106 to 126! That kid is a stud at any school! Just like the Moran brothers! All should be allowed to wrestle no matter where they go. If a parent makes the choice to switch schools for what they believe is best for their child, they should be allowed to do so!

As regards to my son, no final decision has been made whether he is going to be released from Perry. It is looking like it will not go in our favor the coaching staff at Perry are working hard to get their AD to release him. To the outside world that does not know everything that has been going on, only the recent drama around his wrestling, it would appear this is strictly wrestling related. I can only tell you that, first, I have two daughters in Center Grove, we have always and still live in Center Grove. He went to Center Grove from kindergarten to eighth grade, 8 years. Went to Perry because it is literally 5 minutes from our house we live on the south side of county line which puts us technically in Center Grove. As we were planning on moving over into Perry District we wanted him to start and finish at that High School. My daughter being a Jr and my other daughter in middle school did not want to change schools, so we decided not to move out of Center Grove but just make it work. I never had any expectations of him being able to finish out this season. I already knew that was one thing he was going to have to deal with because of my mistake of starting out of the district. And to think he may have to sit out until this time next year because of decisions adults have made. I've always said I cannot believe that the kids are the ones to get caught up with this stuff. Lastly, if by some chance it all gets worked out and Brayden is released to wrestle this season, we would never step into a room and wrestle off the kid that has been in that spot because we transferred. We are not that type of people and Brayden is not that type of kid. The only way he steps into a spot in that room is if it is agreed upon by that kid. Y'all that don't know us may not believe that, but you all that do, you know that that is the way we are. This is not the way I want his memories of high school to be. Just everybody try to remember that when you're on here talking about all this stuff, if it is good or for kids bad or whatever it is about the kids. They get on here probably as much as we do. I would never want Brayden to get on here and talk about somebody, calling him garbage or some of the stuff I've seen. I'm not judging anybody. Just asking everybody to remember what this is all about.
