I'm baised on my picks but still see BB pulling this out I'll call a split on the tossups giving both 6 champs each 5 2nds I'll call 2 3rds and a 4th for BB and 3 4ths for Avon that's tight as you can get. TeamGarcia reacted to Major Ursula in 2016 SAC Preview
Every year around this time wrestling fans in Fort Wayne flock to Snider High School to watch a little wrestling.  The old greats will gather to talk about the old days.  Rico Talamentes shall be at hand and there will be a Tony Elkins Sr. sighting.  Mr. Woodson will be present if time permits.  Hopefully stalwart Terry Burton and the legendary Russ Isaacs are in attendance.  However these festivities will have a somber” tone” without the raspy presents of Hall of Famer: Fred Tone.  It’s nostalgic for me every time I’m in those hallowed halls.  Troy Bahler, Goshert, Elbert Starks. James Starks, Jermaine Brooks, The Talamentes Bros., Greg Wagner, Jason Woodson, Oliver Richmond, The Lovejoys, Will  Ragle Jr., Tony Vaughn,  Erique Early sr., Lil E………… For the first time in a long time my Alma Mater, Snider, is not the favorite.  The Cadets from Concordia are.  Northside is poised to strike in an upset bid.  Parity has found its way to Fairlawn Ave. and I think this one will be a barnburner!
    106.  Its no secret who the favorite is here. Led by Russ Hartman, Northside’s senior Ben ”State” Streeter is the Juggernaut here.  Strong, tough, and experienced, you’d be a fool to go against him. Already a state qualifier,   Streeter is focused on a medal so he has no time to play with the younglings.   If he is to be challenged it will be by feisty  Soph. Josh “Go Hard” Goheen -Smith.   The rest of the pack will fight for third expect Bishop Luers’s   Ben ”The Wrecker” Frecker to make some noise.
    Sleeper: NONE
    113. Again this one is a culmination.  He’s come a long way from being that 82lb freshman. Wayne’s  Geoffrey “Tiltmaster” Davis, led by Josh “Colossus” Grider, already has seen Banker’s Life once and left with some hardware, a fourth place medal.  Speed and tenacity are his assets, along with a been there done that approach. Freshman, Concordia’s Luke “The Force” Aumick will use his Jedi powers to take the rest of the field.
    Sleeper: NONE
    120. Snider’s Jaydon “Raidan”Nance, Led by Dave “Gimme Some” Mohr, has wrestled 120 all four years on varsity.  He has been in the conference finals twice losing both times.  This is his weight to lose.  He shall be challenged by Dwenger’s Jacob “journeyman” Robinson. Southside’s Jamarri”Blitz” Price and Luers’s Gage “The Mallet” Mallot can upset any of the top two if they are not poised and ready.
    Sleeper: PRICE
    126. Your guess as good as mine. Snider’s Zeran”The Sultan” Couter is the favorite but Dwenger’s Michael” I don’t live in” Garrett has the pedigree to upset the field.  This is a very wide open weight with no incumbents.
    Sleeper: THEY ALL ARE
    132.  Early on this one looked easy. Woenker from Bishop Luers.  Woenker had a growth spurt so again it’s on.  Northside’s Ketan” I am” Braun was a conference champ last year.  So was Snider’s Jordan Pace.  Concordia’s Tre King can beat them both under the right circumstances.  I’ll take Braun.
    138.  This may be the SAC’s most intriguing weight.  Bishop Luer’s Chandler “Cerebro” Woenker, led by Rodney” one man team” Bolden, is the favorite but there is all type of chaos amongst the head to heads.   Northside’s Matt Magana dec. Northrop’s improved Austin "Taz” Ochoa.  Ochoa Pinned Ben”The Hulk” Macias from Southside twice.  Macias Teched Ochoa.  Ochoa dec. and pinned Concordia’s Murfield.  Woenker majored and pinned Ochoa.  Ochoa pinned Woenker. Woenker hasn’t face Magana, Macias, nor Murfield.  So they all have better records than Ochoa, yet Ochoa has beaten them all except Magana in a close dec. earlier in the year.  Carry the 1 divided by the 9 plus the 7 negative times pi= Woenker.
    Sleeper: Macias
    145. Northside’s Logan "the leg” Capps has been knocking on that door for a while now.  A conference runner-up and Semi-state qualifier last year he was poised to dominate this year.  Slowed by an injury, coming back nearly a month late, Capps still has a little rust.  Don’t think that’s going to stop him from winning conference.  Wayne’s Oberto Solis is dangerous, so is Concordia’s Chad "Vlad” Grover.
    Sleeper:  Dwenger’s David “Neverfail” Obergfell.
    152.  Snider senior Nick “Miller Time” Miller is a hard worker poised to capture another conference crown and earn that elusive trip to Banker’s Life.  He “did the rounds” so all he needs to do is beat whomever comes to that line.  His challengers are Concordia’s Jack "Stack” Adair and Wayne’s Javi “Jaguar” Johnson.  Miller is solid. Adair is a grizzled veteran with a cheat code it seems.  Johnson has the pedigree and  is simply cat quick. This will be an entertaining semi-final.
    Sleepers: Gonzalez Northrop/ Garrett Dwenger
    160.  Wayne’s Bryson “Tyson” Mckee was a surprise semi state qualifier last season with a .500 record.  Normally with those credentials you would be the favorite in our conference.  Not this year.  There are at least four guys who could take it here.  Luke "Hook’em” Fisher from Bishop Luers lost to McKee earlier in the year.  Concordia’s Harris has been having a fine year but was pinned by Fisher.  Toss Northside’s Logan "I don’t go to” Snyder in there and now we have an issue.  McKee hasn’t separated himself from this pack so it’s a tossup.
    Sleeper: Dalton Harrington Snider
170 Concordia’s Zach "not him” Davis is used to winning.  He put in the time and did the rounds. Indiana Tech especially.  He had a trip to the Mecca called Banker’s Life Fieldhouse last year.  That gave him confidence.  They won’t stop him on Saturday.
    182.  Northrop’s Heath “Beef” Ault, led by Bruce "Lee” Ojeda, won’t quit.  He wants to be the best.  This is his chance because he has already beaten the field.  He just has to do it again.  In his way are Dwenger’s Stephen “Fleetwood” Nix and Concordia’s Dominic Perugini who have traded victories.  Southside’s Nate Garcia was poised to challenge but my insiders say he’s out. With the top three battling it out, Bishop Luers’ Mitch “Flip the Switch” Gigli is poised to conquer the rest of the field. Sleeper: Mitch Gigli.
195 is a mystery. Concordia’s Joey “Sweet as a” Rucsinski is the favorite here. He shall be challenged by the field. Not a lot is known about 195; it is wide open. Sleepers: Ricardo Talamantes Snider.
220 Concordia’s Noah “Turn You To” Asher is the class of this field. Trevor Thomas Snider was a Conference Champ last year. Northside’s Tyson Whitner, Wayne’s Dom Snyder, and Northrop’s Ta’Vonne Johnson are poised to challenge. Snyder is strong as an ox. Whitner is a veteran. Johnson has big moves and powerful throws. Asher possesses all of those qualities. This is Asher’s. Sleeper: Dom Snyder.
285 again this was supposed to be a culmination. Unless Bishop Luers’ Daemon Williams pulls a Willis Reed, this race is now Dakota “Rushmore” Ault’s to lose. Ault has had big victories. winning the Connersville Invite. Landon “Hold the Soup” Campbell is his number one rival. Campbell won the Garrett Invite. Wayne’s Jacob “Sir Isaac” Newton is poised is take the rest of the field. Sleeper: Campos Southside.

TeamGarcia reacted to runner-up in Red vs Lee State Finals?
Chad Red Jr. is the number one wrestler in the nation at 132. He had to find ways to win against the best kids in the country to earn that ranking. I would argue that you really couldn't even attempt to rank another 132 pounder in the nation ahead of Red based on his success over the past few years.

Nick Lee is very good--elite level good. He is aggressive, has excellent technique, and possesses a killer instinct. I get excited watching him wrestle. He flat out breaks kids. But I just don't see him breaking CJ.

It would be a great match. Words can't accurately describe how excited most of us would be to witness such a spectacle. For me, it would be on par with watching Taylor vs Dake match a few years ago. It surely would be the most anticipated match I have ever heard of in Indiana (though I have been told that there have been similarly exciting potential match ups in the past that never happened, e.g. Angel vs Reece).

I hope this match up happens. If it does happen but doesn't take place under the lights, it will be a shame.

We are talking two extremely talented and hard working wrestlers. Very few Indiana wrestlers have had the success they have had thus far in their careers. It is rare that two kids of this caliber would find themselves wrestling at the same time at the same weight.

    My take:

CJ is the number one kid in the state and country. If anyone were to beat him, including Nick Lee, it would be an upset. Not to discredit Lee. He is a great wrestler and I think his aggressive, tenacious style could potentially prove to stifle CJ. If anyone is capable of preventing Red from claiming his fourth state title, it would be the elder Lee brother.

I just think Red's experience wrestling in big matches against the best kids helps him find away to win. I'm picking Chad by decision, though I think more high scoring than some on here. 7-4 with CJ getting a third period takedown and ride out before showing off his last celebratory dance moves in his high school wrestling career.

I know that no one asked for it, but those are my two cents.

TeamGarcia reacted to hook and half in Hook's Annual SIAC Preview and Analysis
The post-season is here!  For SIAC fans, this means a trip to fabulous Newburgh, Indiana.  Mrs. Hook, Hookticia, Hookert and Hookun have the trusty 1985 Chevrolet Caprice station wagon, cleaned, gassed-up and backed into the driveway.  They even scraped the gum off the seats so that their grandparents, “Big Hook Mama” and “Cool Daddy Hook Bucks” will have a safe place on which to sit.  Our Kool-Aid is stirred; the Lays Stackers (much cheaper than Pringles) are packed.

106- Mater Dei’s one-seed Clay “Scrambled” Egli is the favorite.  The Castle Knights counter with freshman Devon “Lightning” Casebolt, who brings a strong, 29-3 record to the party.

113- Baxter “Vader” Annakin is back!  While this is good news for Bob Harmon’s Knights, it bad news for the field.  Recovered from his injury, Annakin could make a deep run in the State Tournament Series.  Seth “Hears a Who” Horty has steadily improved and rolled up an impressive, 31-3 record.  Horty will likely meet Mater Dei’s Blaine “Bring the Pain” Mayer in the semifinal.

120- Fifth-ranked Mater Dei junior Kyle “Sweet” Luigs nabs the top seed.  Castle’s Neal “The Real Deal” Bealmer will duke it out with Central’s Cody “Samsonite” Baggett in the semifinal.  Harrison’s Beau “Geste” Barrett, Drew “Little Big” Horn and Reitz’s Chris “Not the Actor” Tucker also expect to compete for podium spots.

126- The Knights’ Carson “What You Talkin Bout” Willis has put together an awesome 29-1 record, his only loss to Cathedral’s top-ranked Breyden Bailey.  Reitz’s Caleb “007” Craig and Harrison’s Jay “Spice Boy” Hollowell will likely battle for a spot in the final.  Mater Dei’s Joe “Don’t Worry, Be” Happe will also be in the medal hunt in this deep weight class.

132- The North Huskies’ Josh “Hamburger” Elpers has screamed to a 30-1 record and the top seed.  Castle’s Braedon “Slowhand” Clopton is an SSQ, boasting a 20-2 record.  Throw in Memorial’s Jacob “The Rock” Brockman, Reitz’s Kye “Cabinet” Fehrenbacher and Mater Dei’s Kyle “Minogue” Embry and you have yourself the makings of a real donnybrook.  I know Castle’s concession stand is calling…better make a run well before this bracket is wrestled.

138- Actually, you had better stock up on concessions; you will not want to miss any 138 action, either.  Castle’s Austin “Pharaoh” Ramsey gets the nod for the top seed.  A senior, the ranked Ramsey will be dissatisfied with anything short of a State berth.  In his way is Mater Dei’s fifth-ranked Blake “Air” Jourdan.  Down from 160, earlier in the season, and from 145 last year, Jourdan looks poised for another spot on the podium at Banker’s Life.  BUT….before he gets there, Jourdan will have to get past North’s Nick “House Of” Burke.  Burke is under the radar but brings a 29-1 record to the meet.  Overlook him at your peril.

145- Mater Dei’s Joe “Younger, But Bigger” Lee grabs the spotlight.  Last year’s State Runner-up is the heavy favorite.  Harrison’s Bryce “De Moray” Ransom, North’s Dalton “Battleship” Gray and Castle’s Clay “Almond Joy” McNutt will battle for medals.

152- The Wildcats’ journeyman “Abercrombie &” Mitch Lehman gets the nod for the top slot.  Memorial’s talented “Take A” Chance Williams gets the two seed.  Williams has battled non-stop injuries for two seasons.  Here’s hoping Larry Mattingly’s senior stays healthy for a post-season run.  Castle’s freshman, William “Milling” Nunn and Reitz’s Blayd “Runner” Blair will also be in the mix.

160- Castle’s Jacob “Old McDonald” Farmer is the favorite here.  Danger lurks, as Farmer will likely meet the Memorial Tigers’ Jack “In the Box” Folz.  On the other side of the bracket, Shawn “P. Diddy” Coane of North meets Mater Dei’s Hunter “Baby, You Can Drive My” Carr in the first round.  The winner of that one meets the winner of Reitz’s Noah “Ark” Reich and Harrison’s Dymond “Legs” Harris.  No bathroom breaks during 160!  I’ll be taking notes.

170- Castle’s Evan “Sville” Dowell is a big favorite.  Dowell has a ton of varsity and big match experience.  Look for him to cash some chips.  Bosse’s Raymond “Bradbury” Garnett is the two seed.  Garnett has rolled up 17 wins and looks to bring his gridiron success to the mats.  Memorial’s Mitchell “Encyclopedia” Brown, Mater Dei’s Blake “Bing” Chandler, North’s Marcus “Axle” Eatan, Central’s Kiave “Guerrier & Ives” Guerrier and Reitz’s Jeremy “Ring My” Belli will also look for a medal.  Wrestlebacks will be a blast!  Are you going to make me say it?  Very well.  NO BATHROOM BREAKS.

182- Bob Harmon gets another top seed with his junior, Carson “Cougar Mohlercamp” Mohler.  The first-year starter has rolled up an outstanding 29-3 record and looks to top the awards stand in his home gym.  The Tigers’ Conner “Buster” Brown is the two-seed.  Reitz’s Andrew “Dean” Koonce, North’s Justin “Gun” Naylor, Central’s Austin “Monte” Hall and the Wildcats’ Seth “Of Courth” Orth will also battle for medals.  I’m not going to say it three times in a row.  If you have any questions, refer to 160 and 170 for personal instructions.

195- Mater Dei’s Coach, Greg Schaefer, is grinning over his top-seed, junior Kurtis “Call of the Wild” Wilderman.  Reitz’s Andrew Shaw “Shank” and Castle’s Will “Rock And” Rolley will battle for a right to meet Wilderman at the center mat.  Do not discount North’s “Captain” Nate Smith or Memorial’s Marcus “Niemen” Gahagen—they will both be in medal contention.

220- Schaefer is still grinning!  Why?  Because his sophomore, Michael “Made For Walkin” Boots is the one seed.  Boots will likely meet the Tigers’ Jacob “Cole” Sulawske in the semifinal round.  On the other side of the bracket, Castle’s Brennan “Stormin” Norman should meet Reitz’s Blake “I Need A” Huggins for a right to pursue all of the marbles.

285- By now, Schaefer’s smile is ear-to-ear.  Austin “Powers” Fleck is at the top of his bracket.  Reitz’s Brett “Ed” McManus and Castle’s Brock “Lesner” Lofton will meet, with the winner getting Fleck.  Central’s Jordan “On the label, label, label” Libby is the two-seed.  He will likely face the winner of Memorial’s Ryan “Flyin” Ohlen and Harrison’s Davionte “Howard” Hughes.

    Hookemendations:

Don’t miss these first round matches:  113- Harrison’s 21-13 “Mister” Christian Nix and North’s four-seed, Brenton “Fort” Myers.  120- Barrett vs. Tucker.  126- Jacob Brockman is a senior that has seen a lot of battles.  He faces Reitz freshman, Kye Fehrenbacher.  Athletic and tough, Coach Scott Ferguson has a good one in Fehrenbacher.  160- Coane vs. Carr.  Coane is a very solid 23-7, while Carr is 0-3.  Carr is coming off injury and should be ready to present him a stiff challenge.  170- Belli vs. Guerrier; Chandler vs. Garnett.  182- Koonce vs. Naylor.  285- Lofton vs. McManus; Ohlsen vs. Hughes.

Best first round match:  182, Austin Hall vs. Seth Orth.  Only at 182 could SSQ Seth Orth not receive a seed!  The senior will face junior Austin Hall for the first time this year.

Don’t miss these semifinals:  113- Mayer vs. Horty.  126- Craig vs. Hollowell.  138- Burke vs. Jourdan.  152- Nunn vs. Williams.  160- Farmer vs. Folz.  Carr/Coane vs. Harris.  170- Brown vs. Garnett.  182- Hall/Orth vs. Brown.  195- Shaw vs. Rolley.  220- Norman vs. Huggins.  285- Ohlsen/Hughes vs. Libby; Fleck vs. Lofton/McManus.

Best semifinal match:  132, Braeden Clopton vs. Kyle Embry.  Clopton is very strong and solid; he fell in last year’s SS ticket round.  Embry is very strong and solid.  The senior has had four years of battling for a spot in a crowded line-up.  This should be a good one!

Best title matches:  113- Annakin vs. Mayer/Horty.  Mayer and Horty are healthy and in supreme condition.  Annakin has five matches—what kind of shape is he in?  We will soon learn.  132- Elpers vs. Embry/Clopton.  Josh Elpers is as muscled-up as any 132-pounder you will find.  However, Embry and Clopton have wrestled super-tough schedules and experience brutal practice partners, on a daily basis.  Who holds the cards?  138- Ramsey vs. Jourdan.  Both are high energy, super-hardnosed grapplers—they are also great kids.  I can’t wait for this one.  285- Fleck vs. Libby.  Fleck owns a win over Libby.  However, the win was narrow and Libby is a wily veteran.  Expect Libby to be coached up for his center mat appearance.

    Bold Observations, Questions and Predictions:

    ·         Give Harrison’s coach, Matt Mastison, a week and some plastic sweats.  I’ll wager he can get to 113…again.
    ·         Central’s coach, Mike Lapadat, will burn more calories coaching than at least half of the 285-pounders do wrestling.
    ·         Castle’s concessions will wow you with pizza slices that cover an entire paper plate and baked potatoes that resemble, in size and appearance, Wrestleman’s head.
    ·         IU89 has the scoop.  Trust me on this one.
    ·         Ask Mater Dei’s coaching staff if they go with light, medium or heavy starch on their shirts for the SIAC meet.  Then, find me and give me the answer.  I want to know.
    ·         In spite of their heavy Castle bias, 1gold, backtothemat, todddfoxxx (Triple D, Triple X) and bluebolt1 are actually pretty congenial guys that would love to talk wrestling with you.
    ·         Bob Harmon will have his beard freshly-trimmed and a stern countenance.
    ·         My daughter, Hookticia, will be matside complaining about how the yellow mats screw up her photography.
    ·         Ask Larry Mattingly “What is going on?”  I’ll bet he will have an easy smile and a great story to tell you.
    ·         Mater Dei’s fans will take issue with at least one of the referee’s calls.  The balance of the fans will take issue with the fact that MD fans have an issue.
    ·         JonH will be imbibing a libation from a can marked “Ski”, but he will not share.
    ·         Some folks will be offended by my nicknames.  I have no choice in the matter, as my fan(s) (sometimes one, sometimes two) demand jocular comments and pithy analysis.  Everything I do, I do for my fans.  Or fan.

I don't really understand why people get bent out of shape on rankings because a team or an individual is not where you think they should be. Last time I checked, the rankings don't win your team or individual matches. Yes, I know its good to be recognized and all that, but I'd rather my team or individual not be ranked or not be ranked as high, and use that as some motivation to prove people wrong.

Not a complaint, rather a suggestion.  Can we add a column for "previous ranking"  It's interesting to see who the big movers are each week and this is an easy way for people who aren't familiar with EVERY wrestler in the state to be able to follow those kids that have either climbed or fallen significantly.
