Just want to thank all the Indiana wrestling fans that came to Carver Hawkeye Arena to cheer on Jesse(70+). Jesse definitely had the loudest crowd besides the 2 Iowa commits. Also thank you to the Joe, Mike, and Caleb for coming out(even got to see Caleb's sick dance moves). This was an amazing weekend for Jesse and our family. Jesse was really happy with the support he received from everyone and is already talking about coming back next year. Side note: Indiana has had 5 WNO competitors compared to Iowa's 1. Indiana is killing it on the national scene and there is another strong group of young men in middle school that is going to keep that tradition alive. Indiana is and will continue to be respected.

He is signed up for Super 32 under Lee Homeschool, can't wait to see how he does at the next level with his brothers, an amazing family that has raised 3 amazing young men.

Congrats to Jesse Mendez who went out and represented the State of Indiana very well at Who’s #1. He put on two awesome matches that could have gone either way. I believe he was the youngest person there and will be back to battle again for that spot.

He might not have placed top 3 but to think silas won state at 195 not giving up a offensive point all season as a cadet is crazy.. he was younger as a sophomore placing 5th at 182 than most 9th graders..he will graduate hardly 17.

I think it’s cool to have your 4 top guys battle it out, also love the new wrinkle of highest seed getting to pick the style of his choice should be interesting hopefully he can keep that #1 spot.

My thought is awesome, now I can see him win twice.

I don’t have an issue with it. Granted in this scenario it doesn’t help Mr. Mendez but it will provide him an additional opportunity to showcase his skills vs a quality opponent. Having 4 also eliminates the “what if’s” for wrestlers who had a “legit resume” to be there as well.

Basically it wasn't feet to back, they were on their knees. Basically the same as a gator roll.

Can we take another minute to talk about that throw tho.....

Mendez reminds me of Ben Whitford and has some Nolf in him as well. He is not bothered by being taken down as he wrestles with so many attacks and seems to try new moves in matches.

that shows how tough some in state kids are to actually go after him as well! scary part is that he gets better every time.

Good lord did he turn it on after that match !!!

In my opinion how that match played out was a great turning point match for Mendez rise to a state title. I’m sure he knew he had the ability to take on the best in the state, but the course of that match put his feet to the fire enough to solidify that.

Stevan Micic just picked up a silver medal yesterday representing Serbia at the European Games (continental games in the olympic tradition). All the big European nations brought their best guys, so his weight was very solid. His biggest win was over the European champion and World bronze medalist Atli of Turkey in the quarterfinals. Stevan is very much a medal threat for worlds this year and the Olympics next year.
