I will tell you this when I argued for wrestlebacks at the Proposal meeting with the IHSAA Mr Faulkens warned me not to use the term wrestlebacks.  So when arguing the point I continuly used true 3rd bracket as we use in sectionals and seemed to be going well until Bobby Cox said, What your talking about is essentially wrestleback arent you.  I  answered I never said wrestle backs I said true 3rd bracket.

My team is in that sectional and it is night and day to previous years.  We have VERY few kids or weight classes that would be considered "top tier", but there are a few good wrestlers that know what there doing (and yest will most likely struggle at the regional), but I do look forward to seeing several weight classes that have kids who are very competitive at this sectional (126, 160, and 285 come to mind quickly) and most of those kids are just as nervous and anxious as those kids preparing for the Avon sectional.  
More importantly though if you are only looking at the top tier kids, how they do competing with each other, you may be missing a piece of the sport that makes most of us smile especially at sectional.  It is the kids seeded 6th or unseeded at sectional who overcomes all odds and their own doubts to place 4th and get to wrestle at regional.  Some of them will have achieved their only goal in wrestling after 4 years taking a beating in practice, never even believing they could do it because they wrestled behind a stud or had 5 studs in the sectional.  That kid will ll be just as happy (and most likely or more so) than most of the wrestlers who lose in the go round or on Friday night. 
Weak or strong there is a lot of happiness and tears getting ready to happen on Saturday, but that is what make sectional entertaining and brings a lot of smiles.  

I will say it again, we've worn 2 piece uniforms with the shorts being "Fight Shorts" pretty much all year. Have yet to have one problem with fingers getting caught in the shorts.

This went into effect last year.  We did this at our seeding meeting in Jennings last season.

while not an officer of the coaches association for 4 years now, I do know where the rule came from:
Head to head and common opponents still count - so if you have a losing record because your forfeits are gone, but you have a common or a head to head you still trump the person record - forfeits don't matter in that scenerio anyway. 
previously a kid that was 16-15 with ten forfeits, could be over a kid that was 14-15 with no forfeits.  It didn't decide the better wrestler, but the person that didn't wrestle the most was assumed better.
This rule was passed two years ago, and was in use last year (whether schools used it or not)
Small schools and medium schools and large schools were in the meeting that changed the criteria.  
The purpose of the seeding meeting is to seperate the best wrestlers.  The forfeit was taken out so that only actual wrestled matches seperate the wrestlers. 
Forfeits don't show who the  better wrestler is. 
The purpose of the rule is to discourage forfeits   - push to recruit, bump kids to wrestle actual matches instead of wrestling a dual where nobody matches up.

The example I gave isn’t fictional, at least the part about the 16 forfeits.  
If anyone gets “penalized” at a seed meeting it’s the kid who wrestles the toughest schedule.  It’s not like the kid with all the forfeits has to sit the tournament out, he just won’t be seeded based off of his forfeits alone.
If one criteria to separate kids is winning percentage, it seems logical that strength of schedule should play a part.  While it is diffficult to measure strength of schedule, it is easy to see and count forfeits.

Last night we went to West Washington High School for a dual with them.  They are a first year program and our coached by a young man, Dennis Tankersly, that I watched wrestle his way to a semi-state birth on another "new" program in Eastern Pekin back when I coached at Scottsburg.
I want to say that I was very impressed by the atmosphere he is creating there at West Washington.  Prob the best wrestling enviroment we have been in so far this season.  His goal is to bring excitement back to the sport and I will say my wrestlers were excited about the introductions and how the meet went down.

The once pictured above are of a different variety than we have at Madison.  It is the NFHS approved set with the shorts (not compression as pictured above) and compression shirts.  Our athletes wrestle in shorts and shirts everyday in practice I am not sure how it becomes a issue in a meet.  I am all for the two piece rule.

Guys it was my first trip to Heartland Duals and I will rank this up there with other team trips I have went on.  Jmills did a great job of making sure everything went smoothly.  I was impressed with how our teams competed and stacked up to the best the other states had to offer.  Was a honor to corner for a lot of kids that I have no doubt will be wrestling on Saturday at State Finals in the future.  Also I had the unique oppurtunity to view this trip from the parent angle as well.  My son wrestled for two of the best youth coaches in the business (Ryan Parrish, Blake Harvey) and enjoyed every second of it.  #4thesnap   Our state has some of the best youth programs and coaches around and it makes coaching high school easier when the level of guys your getting is raised by the youth coaches throughout our state including Madison Youth Director TripleB himself.
 
As JMills knows we learned from this trip that no matter how hard you get hounded you fight and no matter what fence is in your way you find a way.
