The 170 pound soon be Danville junior recieved one of the only 4 Black Hats given at J Robs 28 day intensive camp out of hundreds of wrestlers...He graduated with over a perfect score gaining 10 positive ratings during camp and ran his 15 miles in 2 hours and 6 minutes...very proud of this young man who is like a nephew to me and glad he represented Indiana so well during a challenging but life changing experience!  Look for big things the next 2 years and beyond out of this fine young man!  He's had a very productive off season winning Nuway and Indy nationals while wrestling on dual national teams and gaining valuable knowledge for the future.

Of the seniors that won the state tournament - he was the most dominant this year. I don't have access to his complete record but what is listed on Track for the season he had all Falls (1 Tech Fall), except 1 major and 1 Injury default. He had 0 matches without scoring bonus and only 1 major - that is dominant on a whole different level...

His matches in the state series: (3 sectional matches) 0:32, 0:35. 1:33; (3 regional matches) 0:22, 0:40, 1:19, (4 SS matches) 1:07, 1:18, 2:55, 1:14; (State 4 matches) 0:54, 1:02, Inj. [time] (This match may have been in the 2nd period), 5:59.  Not only did he finish everyone, on 2 (maybe 3) of the 20 matches went past the first period.

I dont know how to define Mr. Gorilla any better than a dominant pinner, he was an absolute beast this year.

Plus he has the best national accolades.

Bailey was dominant this year too, but not as dominant.

In all honesty - I would love to see this match-up at a national event (especially in the finals) rather than at the IHSAA tournament.

I just think it is better for Indiana and would bring in more recruiting to have easily recognizable dominant wrestlers (3-4x champs). Especially ones that crush it at the national level, like Lee and Red.

All wrestlers have a certain swagger or confidence in their mannerisms and how the represent themselves. In my interactions with him he has always been respectful and just like any other teenager.  Remember guys like Reece Humphrey and Steve Sandefer both did a little dance after they won state titles.

Micic was ranked 1st in the nation last year but definitely did not have the most "lopsided" performance of the tournament last year. Just sayin'

As  for Interesting Friday Night Match-ups

182 - Andrew Davison v Conner James... Got to be close to the most interesting,
#3 v #4 - both have only lost to 1 other wrestler year  combined record of 82-3 brutal draw here....

Some folks have had a lot of negative things to say about the Lebanon junior, but I saw him do something very admirable after his 3rd place match at New Castle. Right after beating Rutledge of Southport for 3rd, he spent time showing Rutledge some techniques and even drilled with him for a while. In this day and age of extreme competitiveness and 'not showing your cards' to your opponent, I thought this was good sportsmanship in its clearest form and I wanted to commend him. I think he's been unfairly targeted by some people. That doesn't mean he's perfect or not responsible for his less ideal behaviors, but I've seen him a lot and I think he's a good kid and a really tough competitor. Just wanted to shine a little light on something positive.

Everything considered I think the worst trick of fate for this years ticket round:

    Merrillville 160: #3 Schurg (CP) v  #5 Sopko (Hobart)

Both have wrestled at the field house 2x, both previous state placers (Shurg 2x including finalist last year), state ranked ranked 3rd and 5th, both only have 2 losses on season.

Both are seniors that have had stellar high school careers, which for me, is what really separates this ticket round from others.

I was at the meet.  From a fan's standpoint, I can't believe that no one has mentioned yet that Eldred wrestled REALLY well.  Just want to give Eldred some credit.  While some other factors may have come in to play, the fact that no one has mentioned that Eldred was on fire for the match is very noticeable.  He wrestled very well.  Also, I'm sure Jack was ill, you could see that.  I also wish he would have made every attempt to get to the awards stand for the presentation.  Regardless of illness or not, I wish he would have been there, deal with the nausea for 2 minutes and show respect to those in your weight class.  Two great competitors, hopefully we'll get to see them again down the road.....again in this entire thread no one had mentioned Eldred and felt that he deserved to be recognized for an incredible match.
