I had that when I competed in the 80's.  I went to a small school and played football, wrestled and ran track.  In the bigger schools it seems kids specialize a bit more.  It is hard to be a multi-sport athlete bc everything is so competitive.  Perhaps I'm wrong.

Yup, definitely hard to be a multisport athlete, especially in a small school. We're lucky that we have some guys that are falling in love with wrestling and wanting to get as much in as they can, even during their other sports. But it's still hard to do a full freestyle/greco season with all their normal practices and weekend meets.

Just because I appreciate you keeping things spicy around here, I deed thee one like reaction. Treasure it, I won't make them as readily available until I'm in the Hall.

And one guy that hasn't been mentioned for HOF consideration is Pistol Pete. What a guy, whoever he is, and what a huge supporter of the OK State Cowboys. Get him in!

    Just missed on top ten

  5. Not so much a loaded bracket, but a look back at a bracket I did from last year. Last year I took some of South Adams’ middle schoolers to ISWA state. I was excited to see how our now starting 126 Will Patterson would do because he was very good as a youth wrestler and in middle school, but didn’t see statewide competition that often. He ended up going 1-2. First loss was against Ty Henderson, who I knew was good and a ticket rounder, but now is viewed differently as a state runner up. Next match on the backside was a kid from Eastern Hancock. I told him I couldn’t name a single guy from that school and they historically haven’t produced studs, and I have never heard of this kid, so how tough could he be? Well let’s just say I was shocked at Will losing so bad to this kid, but he did look the part of a stud. Turns out that was Bradyn Volz, eventually sixth placer. Left a little disappointed in the results that day, to only look back and realized we wrestled some absolute hammers.

I tell you what I just saw and no one has brought this up is the -1 point for unsportsmanlike conduct against both teams in the runner race.... CP on Friday night @ 285 for dropping his straps on the mat I never saw this on the broadcast and then against Coach Curry in the semi's @120 During the Jendreas /LaRocca match when a stall was called and Curry mentioned to the ref that he let them wrestle. He was hit with an unsportsmanlike. Considering there was a .5 point difference between their scores for Runner up at the end is just crazy.

Add to that, wasn’t it LaRocca who held off doing a backflip in the finals? That saved point got them a trophy

Heard/saw some loud/large sections of EMD, CP and maybe BBURG/CG.....how did that happen?  Did the peasant's seats get moved to accommodate the heavy hitters?

It was basically general admittance. Only tickets I could find were high up second level, yet I was 4 rows from the floor the entire time with no one coming to claim their seats.

Truly disappointed with IHSAAtv.  Had to switch to Flo(the shame)for consolations. The lack of ease and accessibility to discover the state wrestling tournament is embarrassing.  Can we get a split quad screen to watch all four matches simultaneously?.. The athletes, coaches, schools and fans deserve so much better!  Be better IHSAAtv, at least pretend like wrestling matters as much as basketball!

One look at their socials shows how little they care about wrestling compared to basketball. The IHSAA posts constantly about get your tickets for basketball, good sportsmanship in basketball, and go basketball. Meanwhile wrestling gets one post to issue a statement on the ticket debacle.

I feel the refs give you a little more leaway when you win a state title than they would after other matches.  That being said they likely don’t come out and say that and the narrative all year via the IHSAA has been to watch sportsmanship, including not over doing any post match celebrations.  I feel some kids cautioned on the said of ensuring they didn’t cost their team a point after having heard that all season. There are a few wrestlers that let a little added emotion fly.   If you  look at all the post game celebration of this years state championship team sports I’d say letting backflip or would be right in line with how others had celebrated.  Most refs also get the magnitude of the situations too, they just aren’t going to say ahead of time we will let you get by with 30sec of acrobatics if you win the state finals.

They came right out and said it at the coaches meeting in Fort Wayne in November. Anything that looks pre planned gets hit, and I back flips would be pre planned. Which is still freaking lame. There’s nothing unsportsmanlike about doing a little extra celebrating in the greatest moment of these kid’s careers as long as it’s not directed at the other kid or coaches.

  10. So even though we were told that the tickets would convert to electronic tickets, they are still will call only? I have tickets for my group, but will not be able to be at state until Saturday. How do I transfer my tickets?
