But they are an indirect factor in determining if a team goes to team state as a result.     It improves your chances of having a higher score when a teams regional and sectional are ranked higher or in your words has a higher "deserved" quota.

"The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."
(From a sermon preached by Peter the Hermit in A.D. 1274)   "I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly [disrespectful] and impatient of restraint". (the Greek philosopher Hesiod, 8th century BC)   The children now love luxury; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. (Socrates)   I definitely agree with many of the things you say, Walt.  But don't forget that difficulty with "youth of today" has been identical in one form or another for every generation in history.  It seems none of us really become responsible adults until we're a ways past the legally defined age.  Ever since I came across a few ancient quotes like the above, I've found myself being a little more gracious for the growing pains teens and 20-somethings will face without fail.

Old.   Stodgy.   Out of touch.   Clueless.   Oblivious.  Don’t get it.   Outdated.

This is how my grandchildren and children describe me.

Honestly, I dislike most people under 35.   I do not get social media.   The whole of idea of ‘being famous’ on Twitter or Facebook is a farce.   The narcissism of so many young people is completely foreign.   And social media is just a stupidity amplifier for the selfish foolishness of millennials.

There is one group of people under 35 I still can relate to and that’s wrestlers.   I can talk to a kid who wrestles for hours.   There isn’t much selfishness in these kids.   These are really damn good kids.

That got me thinking.   Wrestling is really the most humbling thing a person can do.   At least in my opinion.   Even our greatest wrestlers ever, guys like Ellis and Tsirtis and Palmer, have been beat and pinned at some point.   If you’ve ever wrestled, you been humbled.   Probably multiple times.

So many kids today really have no idea what failure is.   I watched the video of that girl at Yale screaming and I could not believe it.   Halloween costumes are now offensive and cause a person to emotional convulse?  Really?  Too many soft people.   Too many people who have never failed.   Too many people who have never been challenged.

I see so many wrestlers perform so admirably in adulthood.   And I honestly think it is because so many of these kids failed.   They failed plenty of times in wrestling matches.   And they were taught to get back up and do it all over again.   Don’t quit.   Don’t stop fighting.

Wrestling provides these kids armor for life.   If they lose a job or something does not go their way, they don’t immediately crumble.   They move on.   And they certainly don’t fall to pieces over made up transgression like Halloween costumes or micro aggressions.

These kids who wrestle are probably the one thing that give me some glimmer of hope for the future.

    End of old man's rant.

I think the venue was easily the best so far.  Our kids faces lit up when they walked in also.  This event needs to stay in this facility.  The seating and viewing problems are easy fixes with a few simple steps.

    1. move the team seating and the scorers tables to the INSIDE of the mats instead of the outside of mats....this puts all teams facing the crowd.
    2. move "tournament control center" upstairs overlooking the entire venue (They do it this way at Disney) or move it to a corner and move the team food "lounge".
    3. bring in the end zone bleachers that I have seen in other pictures of the expo center.

Bathrooms and concessions - are always a problem unless we are at Bankers Life, Lucas Oil, etc etc.  The prices will still be too high or whatever and the cleanliness of the restrooms will still depend on the person who used the stall just before you needed to.  Pigs will be pigs and the venue has nothing to do with that.

Thanks to the IHSWCA for everything they are doing to make this event the best event possible.  I can PROMISE everyone that they really do care and they really do want this event to be the best event of the year.  I can also promise everyone that they will make adjustments and if it is at the same venue next year that it will be a much better fan experience.

Wabash has the room for the mats, but the seating would be bad. Along with restrooms and other facility demands of having 3000 people.

Cummings was the strong favorite from the first rankings to the final ones, and he looked relatively unchallenged at state.

This year, in the next ranking's update I believe we could have the fourth different #1 and there's still almost a month before sectionals. Odds are, there's likely a soon-to-be state placer at 106 being completely overlooked by a majority of the state.

As of now, I'm picking Rooks after his impressive Al Smith.

Say what you want, your logic of saying more ranked wrestlers makes a better team in a dual format is flawed. It's how teams match up and if rankings won matches, we wouldn't need to wrestle. How many times have there been upsets at team state that impacted the winner? Nearly every year. Like i said, the seedlings appeared to have been very accurate and well, nuff said. I do agree that there will likely be more Brownsburg kids ranked or at least on the watch list if not already.

    Perry Meridian Fan,

I agree that Coach Schoettle and Staff are top notch and the program is in good hands for years to come. But, for you to say Coach Tonte abandoned anyone is absurd and quite frankly offends me as a parent of Perry wrestler(s) (past and current). This is the same man that has coached and done everything he could for each and everyone of the Perry wrestlers and parents as a whole. There is nothing more important then ones family (excluding God) and if being known as a traitor to do what's best for your family, then put me down as a traitor all day long! Go Falcons and best of luck to Coach Tonte, Krulik and Morgan.

This right here is the best argument I've heard in my short time involved with wrestling. We have the best of both worlds and I think we should stop trying to be like every other state and instead be better. Having a classed team state and non classed individual tournament is a no brainer at least as long as the two are separated. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people from other classed states say they envy our single champ per weight class system for various reasons. I don't know about you but the last way to get me to do something is because everyone else is doing it. Let Ohio have 6 195lbs. state champs. Why don't we build on what we are doing here right now and let them want to be like us. Let's not class just because everyone else is doing it, the grass isn't always greener.

I just want to give props to Coach Schoettle and staff. Wow they took a team that just lost their former coaching staff, ranked 8th during preseason, no returning state qualifiers and placed 3rd at team state. Only team loss was to the state champs.

So a wrestler doesn't make weight 1 time and you want to question is dedication to this sport. I seriously doubt that of all people to question, would be a wrestler like Egli. This kid is legit and I'd put money on him that he'll be one of the top 4 coming out of SS. We'll see how he does at Team State this weekend.
