Joe did Nick mention who discovered the error and how long it took them to sort it all out?  My brain has a picture of Bartlett on a bike doing a cool down 10 minutes after the match and one of the coaches says "Hey bud, sorry but you lost and aren't going to the final."  And then what a nightmare it would have been had it been wrestlers from opposing teams!

Honestly, that's one of the things I hate about freestyle and the criteria deciding matches.  I'm sure I'm in the minority, but it seems like it would be tough mat side to immediately know who is ahead if the scoring isn't automatically doing it for you.  Especially in a higher scoring match.  I had heard the same thing about it being a scorer's error with the caution and that being 2 NLWC guys they were kind of hands off, including possibly throwing a brick during the match.  

But I don't know how many times I've watched a match and a late score happens and I have no clue who won until I see it on the screen.  I'm doing well enough just to keep up with the score, not who had 4, 2, and 1s vs who had 4, 2, 2, and so on.  And in the case of this match, it was obvious in those last few seconds that Lee thought he was losing and Bartlett thought he was winning so that time becomes lost.  So the end of the match, in this case only 3 seconds didn't allow for Bartlett to make a last ditch effort. 
FS rules still don't make a lot of sense to me sometimes. For example, if a guy is defending a shot and rolls his opponent over giving him 2 for exposure then finishes the move on top, why doesn't he get 2 for the takedown?  Yet, if he gets a takedown and exposure he gets for for feet to back.  I don't get why they aren't the same thing when the same wrestler ends up on top and in control.  //End rant/rambling

Nick Lee pulls it out and won the US Open, scoring 10 straight after being down 5-0 at the break, beating Joey McKenna.  Nice breakthrough for him.
 

I believe the Final x matches are June 10, but not 100% sure.  Haven't seen the dates for the WTT.

Thanks for the clarification.  Didn't know cautions came before last points.  Either way, it was confusing as hell.  Fortunately for Bartlett, he bounced back well today beating Anthony Ashnault and will wrestle for 3rd. Hopefully Nick comes out sharp tonight. McKenna handled him pretty well last time they wrestled.

Nick Lee loses in the semifinals....  No wait, he wins!

In a bizarre turn of events, Beau Bartlett's hand was raised on the mat and the scoreboard showed him as the winner 10-10 on criteria.  At some point within the next 30-45 minutes, the result was changed to Nick Lee winning on criteria.  Apparently they got it wrong a scorer's table.  

What made it odd was Nick was down 10-8 and got a push out as Bartlett skated backward letting him do so.  A 1 pt pushout and  a caution and 1 pt was called for fleeing the mat, tying the score.  The scoreboard immediately showed Bartlett leading on criteria, so the final few seconds were wrestled with Nick trying to push him out again and Beau trying to circle and not go out of bounds, but avoiding any kind of engagement.  Everyone on the mat though Bartlett was the winner.  They shook hands, Nick walked off and Beau's hand was raised.  The video shows Bartlett leaving the mat and no sign of any knowledge the result was incorrect.

I've read differing opinions on the criteria.  Both had 4 point moves, one 2 point move and the rest ones.  I always thought whoever scored last in that scenario won.  Others are saying the # of cautions comes into play first and that final caution was the difference and the scoreboard operator gave the caution to Nick and not Beau, creating the confusion.  I guess, barring the caution placed on the wrong wrestler, Lee would have won either way, based on cautions or last score? 

I still haven't heard how long it took to sort that out and how/when the wrestlers found out.

Here is why your argument is dumb.  There are lots of types of great pizza and all can be enjoyed.  Hell, I could eat pizza every day, I'd just vary where I get it and what type.  So, if you are in the mood for something different, then Turoni's on Main Street will not disappoint unless you go in thinking you are getting Edwardo's Stuffed.  Turoni's is much closer to Tavern Style.  Life can be excellent when you can enjoy several types of pizza.  Live a little!

That said, I won't argue with your Chicago assessment, but I have never had Edwardo's directly.  Have had several others (Lou M., Due, Uno, Giordano's, Geno's East (my least favorite), and another one or 2 I can't remember). But all the way down here in Hoover Alabama, there is a small pizza place called Tortugas.  The owner's met working at an Edwardo's and the pizza is very similar I'm told.  It is the only place outside of Chicago that I have had true Chicago style pizza.  Others are all imitators!

Pizza King Pizza is very average.  Excellent Strombolis, however.  For good pizza, go to Turoni's. it's tried and true with 3 locations.  Evansville pizza is more typically like the thin Crust Chicago Tavern style, cut in squares.

Unfortunately I had to take the rabbit food off of my burger as they didn't make it correctly.

They did mention one thing that concerned them a lot was getting professional table help like scorers and timekeepers in Evansville to work at the Ford Center.  Im not sure why that came up, but maybe some previous experiences about table workers from a prominent school came up.

 

One other advantage they mentioned was they liked was the creativity and original ideas going into the WL group proposal.  They were very impressed the novel and original idea of having the all weekend "Winners Bay" party, and also felt the guys in the Northern part of state had a better sense of humor.

The Red vs. Lee match should have been the last match, Mendez 4x should have been the last match, etc. etc. 

He gave you their logic.  You (nor I) have to agree with it, but it's right there.

This topic comes up frequently, never more so than before the 2016 Finals.  It's not new.  As fans, we see solid reasoning to do it.  The IHSAA in general has to decide if making such a chance could be a slippery slope to allow other changes in other sports. As with the placement of next year's State Finals, there is a bigger picture than most fans consider.  
 

I was hoping to come back and find that there had been an announcement, but could only learn that Evansville has .1 lower average Trip Advisor Restaurant Scores (did you check bowling alleys too?).  What an important stat from a truly reputable source!!

Oh yeah, and so many people not involved in the process seem to know everything about it.  I don't have time to check social media activity for wrestling in the other 49 states (again, sooo relevant!) but I did learn that Wrestling is Not in the IHSAA's Top 4 sports.  

The data used for some of these points is comical.  It makes for a lot of "experts"

Maybe people are viewing it differently because it is college and the whole team aspect, but Iowa had a team trophy wrapped up and they had no shot to catch Penn St.  Now, if they needed him to wrestle back to third in order to win the national championship, I believe he would have wrestled, hurt or not.

I don't see there being any connection between those scenarios.  No one else FF'd out.  Several former champions kept wrestling while their team wasn't in the race.  I don't know the inside scoop, but I have a guess.  At least he showed up for the medal presentation.

Parris handled him at the Cliff Keen in December, 12-5.
 

More randomness...

I have mixed feelings on ESPN's coverage at times, but there is no doubt they have made it 100x better than it used to be.  

But the interviews of Will Feldkamp from Clarion and Max Dean do a great job of showing what wrestling is all about and why we love this sport.  If you have access to ESPN's broadcast and missed it, find the interviews.  It's worth the watch.

Nebraska's Brock Hardy tried to go, but couldn't do it and had to injury default out of his 5th Place match.  He was bent over in pain, and looks to have some kind of rib injury.  But had the gumption to shake hands and walk to the opposing coaches to shake their hands before leaving the mat.  He was in serious pain.   And on the flip side, the injury default gave SD State's Clay Carlsson his 100th career win.  

I don't recall them doing this before, but they are running all 7th/8th Place matches at the same time on 4 mats.  I always thought they did 3 mats and all 3 placement matches at each weight together.  Am I nuts (in reference to this)?  Is this new? Update: Now they are doing all 5th Place matches at once.  Don't recall seeing this format in the past.

Other random thoughts...  I know Killian Cardinale was a past All-American but seeing 27 vs 28 seeds wrestling for 7th place is pretty cool.  Ventresca def Cardinale 7-6.

@133 - Sam Latona finished 7th to become a 2x AA.  Alabama doesn't produce many NCAA wrestlers and while I now live in AL, I haven't followed wrestling here beyond the surface.  But Latona is from about 10 minutes from where I live and Thompson HS is one of the few consistently top programs here.  Thought it was cool seeing a kid from here, where wrestling is an afterthought, continue to succeed.

Parker Filius did a nice job getting the win for 7th Place.  Purdue has had a nice tournament.

I'll go back to the OT rules with riding time as a tiebreaker.  Yes, I know you still have to wrestle, but with a guy being able to choose neutral in the 2nd period is almost allowing the match to be decided by the coin flip.  

Back to wrestling.... Lucas Davison just got stuck by Wyatt Hendrickson and will wrestling for 5th.  It was 2-1 before the fall, yet an exciting scrap.  Throw attempts, some scrambling and just two guys going at it.  HWT used to be a snooze fest.  Not so much these days!

I'm not a big fan of bowing out.  Of course, no one cares what I think.  But all of the things everyone always says about wrestling and how it builds character, sets you up for life, teaches life lessons, etc. seems to get thrown out the window with bailing.  Could he be hurt?  It's possible, but I'd be willing to bet it's his pride that's hurt.  

As others have said, I think it would have been good for him to bounce back, a challenge to get your mind right to come back, compete and overcome such disappointment.  And moving past that, coming back to the arena would be good for him.  I suspect, and just guessing, he'll be back tonight in support of Real Woods and will get his swan song/recognition then.  Life is hard and teaches cruel lessons at times.  Some bounce back better and quicker than others.  Time will tell how his story plays out.
