WrestleMan reacted to Sig40 in Jesse Mendez Wrestling at Flo’s Who’s #1 event.
We love the idea. Gives Jesse a chance to avenge a loss from last year at Super32 to Jack and then wrestle another amazing wrestler at same event. Giving Jesse a shot at 2 extremely tough matches in one day is totally worth it.
Side note: Willie asked Jesse if he was ok with making it a 4 man bracket and he said he was down to wrestle anyone. It is definitely the hardest way to defend his ranking, but I am really excited to hopefully watch him wrestle twice at Carver Hall.

Not sure why this matters to you. He moved his family 150 or more miles away to a better opportunity for him and his family. Not across town to Mater Dei or Memorial or Castle. Hard to argue that he isn't going to a better school and that his dad didn't get a better job. And maybe it was partially for a better wrestling opportunity too. Can you blame him? Maybe KT gets a scholarship to wrestle in college that he never would have gotten had he stayed at the same school in Evansville. Think about that. That move could change the kids life. Good for him for having the guts to go.

Yes that was the Kyle Todrank that started at Evansville Reitz and ended up at Gibson Southern. He's a popular guy now.

He did reverse Nolf and he was wrestling up two weight classes, give the kid a break. It was not meant as a taunt, again he was just trying to have fun with the sport (talked to him personally). Also, as someone stated already, he shook hands and was not disrespectful at all.

I don't know about that.  He's got a great story to tell his kids.  He was only down 10 when he got pinned in the 3rd.  Much better than Nolf's typical opponent.  If you saw the handshake after the match, Todrank was very respectful.

Was the Kyle Todrank that just got pinned by Jason Nolf the same guy that wrestled for Gibson Southern in high school!?

From my viewpoint of a small school coach.
The main difference between the large school and small school wrestlers is quite simply one thing: year round training.
Yes, small school kids have the exact same year round opportunities. But the huge difference is these small school kids are 2 and 3 sport athletes.
Adams Central- Football was in the 1A final four 2 of last three years. 16 of my 24 wrestlers were playing football. I did not get them at all from late July till Thanksgiving.  A couple ran cross county. Several are already practicing track and field and more will be going to baseball this week.
We have to share athletes to have a successful culture at our school.
We do the off season workouts, summer duals, weight room, etc. but the attendance is spotty due to demands of the in season sports. My huge advantage is that we have a really strong wrestling culture and support from administration and the community.
A larger school kid is more likely to specialize and take better advantage of the off season opportunities. It has nothing to do with working harder than the small school kids. The small school kids bust their tails the same, just not in wrestling only.
The out of season training that has emerged over the last several years has really separated the talent. The top level guys that train year round have distanced themselves from the typical multi sport athlete.
I do not want this to sound like excuses, but it is the reality. Our goals are the same as every other competitive program in the state. We just have to figure ways around some of the obstacles and close the gap. We do not say it is ok, that was a 3A or 2A kid.

How about mini Ditka? I know. Still mini Ditka.
And speaking of mustaches, how fantastic was the lip rug sported by the North Central coach? That man was half 'stache. I feel like the mustache grew him, not the other way around.

Just wanted to take a second and say Thank you to all the supporters Brayden has had though the years. We new jumping up in weight this year would be a risk, but Brayden has never been one to back down from a challenge. No complaints or excuses 7th, 1st, 1st and 4th plus being one of the smallest in 126 he did a great job and as his father could not ask for anything more. We will be looking to the future and getting a great education thanks to this sport and who knows maybe an NAIA National title along the way.
Congrats to everyone that won and those that did not keep working hard and you just might find yourself under the lights. To all the Seniors it's been one hell of a journey. Most of you we have wrestled with or against since elementary and though those battles made some great friends or dare i say family.
Again Thank you Indiana for giving my son a sport with the best fans and competitors.

And had they been keeping Team points at that time, EMD would still hold the record with a whopping 158 pts.
