  1. Not surprising, guess we'll just keep hearing about all the kids moving to Center Grove, Crown Point, Browsnburg etc. Really great for the sport.

  3. I feel for Coleman Scott, but you have to get yourself out of your own rut when you have an opportunity like like this. Another 15 years of classic Cowboy wrestling isn't winning any national titles. Taylor may flame out and suck as a head coach, (I don't think he will) but you have to take a big swing. For coaches, I heard it's Gillman and Jimmy Kennedy coming with him. Didn't know this, but Kennedy is his brother-in-law. He's looking for a heavyweight coach as well, and it'll probably be a big name. Recruiting could be nuts for Taylor. He obviously can't run M2 anymore, but the club will continue to run under someone he hires and he'll instantly have a pipeline to Pennsylvania talent. It'll be interesting if any Penn State guys follow him to OK State. Haines and Kasak were M2 guys. Now they can't just hop in the portal now and be eligible, but they both were looking at redshirt years so it's in the realm of possibility. And OK State can do some major damage this year yet on the national scene. Penn State still looms large as the heavy favorite, but OK State has a very good team put together for next year, and they seem to be the favorites to land Andrew Alirez and Wyatt Hendrickson from the portal. Their lineup could look like this going into the season. 125 - Troy Spratley, blood round finisher now getting Gillman to work with 133 - Cael Hughes, blue chip recruit coming off redshirt wrestling behind Fix 141 - Tagen Jamison/Jordan Williams, not sure if Williams can go down, but if Alirez does transfer in he's going 149. Both Jamison and Williams were national qualifiers 149 - Andrew Alirez, national champ as a possible transfer 157 - Teague Travis, round of 16 165 - Caleb Fish, transfer in round of 16 174 - Dean Hamiti, transfer in multiple time AA and national champion contender 184 - Dustin Plott, national runner-up now getting coached by DT 197 - Christian Carroll, no intro needed on this website 285 - Wyatt Hendrickson, two time third placer as a possible transfer Now two of those transfers have to happen, but if they do that lineup has potential to be awesome.

@Thor and @The Genius, I'm actually seeing a lot of people on other boards insisting DT would wrestle the Olympics as his last tournament if Brooks can't go. It seems insane to think of in the middle of the transfer portal, needing to move across the country and probably selling a couple of local businesses. ...and probably leaving his training camp. But people insist it would do so much for the notoriety of the Oklahoma State program that he'd do it. They say, "John Smith wrestled in the Olympics while coaching. Cael Sanderson made a freestyle comeback while coaching. Why can't DT?" I hear them, but in this day and age of 24/7/365 recruiting and training demands for D1 coaches--seems crazy. To be his best, he needs 6+ hours per day for training, eating, and recovery activities and 8-9 hours of sleep. He then uses 9-10 hours per day for a big-time D1 coaching job, plus family, business, moving, travel, media appearances, etc, with none of the downtime that a high-level athlete's mind needs in preparing for an elite event? Let me be the first to predict DT doesn't get gold if he is our rep.

    PURDUE HEAD ASST.

Does Leroy Vega get the Head Assistant position now that AJ Schopp is going to back to EDINBORO in PA? Who else can Purdue bring in to elevate the program? Brayton Lee? One of the Davidsons? Chad Red SR.?

  8. Anyone else mind boggled over this one occurring. There were rumors the last few days, but it still unexpected considering a prestigious alumni like Colman Scott with a solid coaching record quite a decent head coaching job to take the heir apparent role under Smith all this season. And now he’s passed by even if it was for Taylor. I feel bad for Scott if he didn’t do anything that blatantly made the school consider rejecting him prior to Taylor’s interest. Someone in the search process at OK St. clearly was looking for the magic (pun intended) beans that may knock Penn State down a peg. It would be safe to say this pretty much signals an end to Taylor’s international career. Who does Taylor bring in as assistance that can start chipping away at Penn State’s recruiting and training dominance. Does Taylor retain at least one OK St. legacy coach to help retain current top commits? Who may he grab from the recruiting or transfer pool over Penn State? Where do the rest of OK St. staff likely end up? So many questions and answers are not coming quick enough.

  15. That's taking it too far, but there are definitely tiers to this game. Big Ten lower feeds Big Ten upper. Other lesser programs feed the lower Big Ten some too.

  16. The biggest potential issue I see is if the girls are limited with events like the boys. Currently there are 18 points allowed with a minimum 6 duals and a maximum of 6 tournaments(3 or more teams). Currently most teams don't have enough girls for a dual meet and the girls are better off going to "tournaments" in which there are 5+ teams there so everyone can get matches.

  17. Or at least give a year for adaptation where girls can compete for the boys' or girls' teams during the regular season as long as they meet scheduling rules.

  18. One small devil's advocate counterpoint to the idea that a tech is now too easy: Making techs and majors easier moves team scoring closer to representing actual difficulty of earning each type of win. Pins have always been rightfully worth more team points than a tech. However, tech falls have always been much better indicators of the superior wrestler. Upsets by tech don't exist. Rematch victories by someone who previously got teched are very, very rare. However, pins can happen in a variety of circumstances and are not always earned by the season-long best wrestler. What we saw in college was that tech falls were way up, but that a rematch could be a good match despite the first match having been a tech. This was not the case before. Related...close duals will now have points more accurately assigned to the deserving team. Before, a team could have 3 dominant wins totalling only 9 or 10 team points, while their opponent had 3 close wins but also got 9 points. Now, those dominant wins can rightfully be 12 or 13 points compared to the 9 for the close wins.

    NFHS rule changes

Anyone see or hear about this?
    1 point
  20. Big changes are coming to high school wrestling this season. Over the past ten years the collegiate folkstyle rules have become almost a different sport with out of bound stalling, what determines out of bounds, and this past year the three point takedown. While many were clamoring for the college out of bounds rules with only one supporting point determining being in bounds it was repeatedly shot down by the NFHS due to mat and gym size concerns. This year though, the NFHS has decided that it is time to implement the one supporting point criteria for high school wrestling. While making the wrestling area a little bigger this rule will make it easier for referees to focus on the action instead of checking for the proper amount of supporting points of the wrestlers. On top of that change the NFHS has approved the popular three-point takedown. This year at the NCAA level they went to a three-point takedown. Many people were cautious, but also excited about that big change. After the NCAA season concluded many felt that the three-point takedown was a huge success. If these two big changes aren’t enough for you, the NFHS has also aligned with the NCAA level with adding a four-point nearfall. After four seconds on your back the offensive wrestler will now be awarded four points instead of taking five seconds to earn only three points. This was implemented in the NCAA since 2015 and last year they updated the rule to allow two points for two seconds, three points for three seconds, and four points for four seconds or more. The NFHS will follow the NCAA and implement all three scenarios for nearfall. Other rule changes include a clarification of the Technical Fall criteria and not requiring a 10-foot circle on the wrestling mat. Here is the NFHS article on the changes https://www.nfhs.org/articles/participants-now-inbounds-with-one-point-of-contact-in-high-school-wrestling/ NFHS Article.pdf
