Jayruss
I was just curious if someone was able to list Mater Dei's greatest wrestlers by weight class?
PURDUEdad
I would guess three of the slots would be filled by Blake Mauer at 130, 145 and 171 . . .
WrestleMan
I would guess three of the slots would be filled by Blake Mauer at 130, 145 and 171 . . . Craig Weinzapfel was a 2 timer who wrestled 145 as a Senior and won and Bret Schnur was a Champ back in 1987 (I think) at that weight. So, I guess a couple of decent guys to fall back on if you just want Maurer to fill one weight class.
Jayruss
I would definitely take Weinzapfel senior year over Maurer's sophomore year
MD92
Off the top of my head: 103/106 - Gabe Zirkelbach 112/113 - Chip Elderkin 119/120 - Greg Schaefer 125/126 - Buzz Mieras 130/132 - 135/138 - 145 - Craig Weinzapfel 152 - Matt Armentano 160 - Matt Coughlin 171 - Blake Maurer 182/189 - 215/220 - HVY - I'll have to think about these other spots later. My mind is drawing a blank.

My mind is drawing a blank. Buzz Mieras was a state champ at 138, so I would put him there. Craig Macke, while never a state champ, was a beast at 125 and probably would have been a state champ at least once if not for Escobedo.
Ahawkeye
What weight did Chris Wildemen win it at? His son Sam was pretty darn good too, I was thinking Chis was at heavy but I could be wrong. Craig Elpers desrves a nod as well. I can't remember any weights, Craig went to state all 4 years with a loss in the finals to a Lawernce North wrestler. I can't remember exact scores I can just remember Craig being on bottom and the LN guy had the cowboy in and Craig tried everything he had in the tool box but could not escape. Of course the MD crowd was beside themselves wanting a stalling call that never came but that's the way it goes. We were quite blessed to have so many to choose from, Macke should also be considered, Tim Nosko was pretty good as well he got caught Friday night in a spledle (sp) Dustin and Dave Nosko were outstanding as well. Chris Wildeman was 145 lb. runner-up his junior year and 145 lb. Champion his senior year. His only loss the last 2 years was championship match his junior year. randalllynch
I wrestled in some of the same events as chris and he was one bad dude! We wrestle at their holiday tournament and i make sure to point him out to our kids.
Jayruss
Sam Wildeman was pretty darn tough, Nosko was a beast, missed those Joe Robinson and Nosko battles. Macke is one of my MD all-time favorites, and in my opinion Matt Coughlin was possibly MD's best at any weight his senior year!

loscoz
I would say Kevin Head should be on this list at a couple of the weight classes. He was good and was jerked around at the state level by the officials and the most memorable was the state finals against Deters and the ref called him for stalling in the middle of shooting in on Deters.
