I saw a commercial the other day on the BTN with Ashneault from Rutgers saying 'If you wrestle me, you have to wrestle my entire family."
I think it was Jim Gibbons who said "When you go out for wrestling your entire family goes out for wrestling too

My family was the same way. When I first went out for wrestling, my dad was against it. He didn't understand it much. It didn't take long for him to catch on and fully support me. He grew to love the sport and was my biggest fan.   When my mom moved from our family home to a retirement community, I found brackets and wall charts from tournaments I forgot I wrestled in. My brother, sister-in-law and niece faithfully followed me around.   I have met so many great wrestling families over the years. People who truly care about one another and support each other. So, if this is your first trip, your umpteenth, or your last trip to the State Finals, I wish you the best. Most importantly, don't forget to enjoy the journey.

Many local clubs have been decimated because most of their kids are at academies instead of the local club. Then they shut their doors and there is no where for the beginners to start unless they want to get a baptism by fire at a local academy.

The academies are great for your top level kids, but the beginners and others that aren't that level don't benefit as much. Kids that can't afford the academies are also hurt when they don't have a local club to attend either.

Sometimes we tend to forget about the kids that aren't the top ones in our room.

You are grossly misinformed as to how their program works if you think the main cogs are the high school coaches from the time they are 9th graders until their senior year. I think there is a little more to their program than that.

Fair replaces Littell at Perry 113.  Fair is injured.  Littell has beat almost everyone in this field. Now neither of them get a chance to make a run at state.  It's a real shame it worked out this way

The Schoettle from Roncalli vs Mac Taylor from New Castle were fun ones.  Mac was usually undefeated until that point.

As far as runs.  I have to say Riley McClurg's was impressive.  I thought for sure he was going to be eliminated in the ticket round, but injuries happen and he caught fire and won a state title.

If we are talking old school, Brandon Ingalls and the LN teams in the late 80's early 90's.  I also remember Donny Sands from Pendleton Heights and Brent Suozzi from Beech Grove had nice cradles (Both mid 90's)

Decatur Central late 80s mid 90s...but I'm gonna say the best cross-face cradle either goes to Nick Walpole or Sampson Cook...Cook wasn't very good on his feet, but the kid could cradle anyone...I remember seeing him down in alot of matches by 8-10 points, & he would choose top in the 3rd lock up his cradle & win by fall...

bgcoach reacted to tskin in Saturday Night Slams in Vevay
Just getting a chance to sit down and relax after the inagural Saturday Night Slams in Vevay.  The Lynx Wrestling Club asked me to be tourney director and help them set there first ever tourney up with the blessing of their Tourism Board.  This tourney was a huge hit with everyone in attendance.  We initially planned for a outdoor tourney but weather didn't want to allow that to happen and Belterra Casino in the 24th hour stepped forward to allow us to host in their ballroom and it was a blessing in disguise.  The Casino was blown away by the event and they were blown away by the positive feedback they recieved from the wrestlers, parents and coaches in attendance.  We had a few hickups that any first year tourney will have but the amount of emails i have recieved post tourney have floored me.  Coach Jackson and Coach Richards did a helluva job in spearheading this idea.  I was lucky enough to get 8 great officials and Tom Clark haha.  The DJ and announcer we had did a tremendous job.  So much So that Mark Durham was toying with the idea of bringing them on board for Indy nationals next year.  Durham, once again showed how trackwrestling has become a important fixture in tourney management and was awesome in setting everything up and training all of our volunteers.  One email in paticular I recieved really blew me away and part of me thinks its just someone showing some love but not being 100% serious.

"Thanks for an awesome tournament! That was a lot of fun… reminded me of Flo Nationals except better!"

That sets the bar pretty high for next year but we will sit down with Belterra Casino and see what we can make happen for next year.

We are up to 11 states now that will be represented at our Technique/ Team Camp that is expected to sell out again like every other year.

Our overnight youth camp which runs from June 7th - 11th still has several openings.

It is getting close and looking forward to hosting another great camp at Wabash!
