That still might be the case. I just see alot of middle schoolers wrestling for private schools in Florida. And I personally havent seen a MS wrestler for a public school this year.

BTW... Danny's son Trey has qualified for state in the 2A 106 pound weight class (in Florida). He comes in as a one seed (since he won his region). Hopefully, he will be a 4 timer down there. Congrats to the Lane's!!!! Kind of scary when you realize that Trey and Asa Garcia would have been battling for a varsity spot (if they did not make the big move). With that said, we look forward to going to down to train with Brandon this summer!  #HillboroughCountyWrestling #OurSisterCounty #TheCounty

DLane reacted to Darrick Snyder in 138 State Finals - Brayton Lee (Brownsburg) vs. Matt McKinney (Warren Central)
Brayton Lee dropping from 145 to 138 was a team and coaches decision - and ultimately my decision.  We made a move of dropping all of our guys from 152 to 132 a weight class.  This allowed us to get a hard working senior in the lineup at 152 and we felt made all of our other wrestlers stronger a weight class down.  I would say it worked out okay for Brownsburg Wrestling this year.

To say Brayton Lee dodged anyone is absolutely hilarious and insulting.  He was in Nick Lee's weight class last year as someone else mentioned.  Also, fell free to look at the tournaments he attends - like Flo Nationals, Super 32, and Fargo.  Pretty decent competition at those.  Heck I can't get him to go to some of our team tournaments because there isn't tough enough competition there for him.

To the couple of internet hero tough guys who decided to come after a sophomore in high school I ask:  What in the world did Brayton Lee do this weekend to make you attack him?  He won a State Championship as an undefeated Sophomore in High School and I could not be more proud of how he handled himself.

the only time and place you see Brayton wrestle Red would be at Red Cobra. These two are very close friends and have been together since they were 5.....My guess is they would never be in the same weight #TheCounty

Would like to give a shout out to Kobe Woods. I have seen him wrestle, know he is a great athlete but have never talked to him.   After his loss on Saturday he came up to my son Mason Parris and said good luck go get 3 state titles.  I think that says a lot about his character and I have a new found respect for this young man.  I want to wish you luck in the future, and we will be following your career at Purdue.

It's a family decision, IMO. Others will have their opinions either way but it all comes down to the wrestler's decision. In Jake's case, he made the decision himself. He shadowed at MC and it's an hour up to Chicago from Lowell so his school days for 4yrs have been: up at 5:15am (up at 4:45am on morning practice days) and back home at 8pm at night, every night. I assumed and totally expected him to say "thanks but no thanks" after his shadow day. I made him go through a typical day of getting up early and coming home late, etc. so he would know what it was going to be like for 4yrs. I figured after the shadow day it would be put to bed. The first thing that came out of his mouth when I picked him up was "that's where I am going, that's my school". There was absolutely no pulling or tugging from me or my wife, he made that decision on his own and we love the decision he made. It's not for everyone but it was best for him. We love our friends in Indiana and we spent all of his formative years in wrestling in Indiana and we wrestled a lot in Illinois and all across the country. As for the actual wrestling part of it? Jake would have been fine if he stayed in IN or went elsewhere because of the nature of our sport, it's all about national tournaments and who you are competing against and defeating/staying close with. Jake's coach at MC is a 4x AA and an NCAA D1 National Champion. He coached at Overtime for 11yrs, he coached Andrew Howe, Alex Tsirtsis, Angel Escobedo, etc. and is probably one of the best technicians in the country. With that said, Bobby Howard at Lowell is also a great technician and Jake would have succeeded under him as well plus Jake has always been an RWA kid, working with Tsirtsis, Hawkins, and the gang for years. There are so many people involved in the success of a wrestler, it's just not black/white on any decision to attend a school. One of the many aspects that I loved about IL was the culture for wrestling and the dual team series. We are going to Dual Team State this weekend and after coaching 3 straight undefeated middle school teams at Lowell, the team aspect of our sport really appealed to me personally and for Jake. Being ranked nationally at #12 is a thrill and I wish there was some way for IN to bring back the dual team series in the IHSAA. Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't include my wife in this conversation. She is a South Side of Chicago girl, grown up and raised in IL. MC was very important from the faith-side of it (we are catholic), it's a big deal for her son to go to a school like MC and it may mean nothing to most people but it meant a lot to her and her family...but she still left the decision up to Jake. She was like me, she never thought he'd be able to keep a strict regimented schedule of getting up so early every day and getting home late, etc.
I could go on but it's safe to say that we love our friends/wrestlers in Indiana and we also love the decision Jake made by going to MC. I hope this answers your question.

And while we're on the subject of Indiana wrestlers going abroad, Brock Morgan and Gable Steveson at Apple Valley are currently ranked #1 at their weight classes as the Minnisota State tournament is about to begin. Morgan has committed to Columbia and Steveson has a few more years left but should have his pick of colleges when the time comes.

Jose and Jake made history by becoming the first Indiana residents to win an IHSA-Illinois High School State Wrestling title. (Jose placed 3rd in 2A last year, Jake placed 5th in 3A as a Soph two years ago...these were also first time feats).

These Indiana boys fared pretty well in Illinois. Great job!

Carlos is super talented, I can't wait to watch him in the future.

Jake is excited to join his longtime club/middle school teammate--Drew Hughes at Michigan State. Exciting times ahead!

I have coached Asa in too many national and local duals to count. He is a big match wrestler. The kid has ice in his veins. Again, SUPER proud of Asa. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this young man. Congrats buddy!!!!

Huge congrats to Asa and his family from Team Mills!!!. It was a well deserved championship after putting his family through so many overtime wins throughout the tourney.  I think he had like 2-3 overtime matches in the state tournament.  I have to think of Gable's quote "Once you have wrestled, everything else in life is easy".  That certainly applies to this season for Asa... He came up clutch when it mattered and goes home with the championship!
