I will stand up for Ethan here. Ethan's 145 is very solid and has proven himself by winning the SAC. The sectional seeds did not play out in his favor because of a loss he had against us early in the season but we then lost to Snider. He has passion for his wrestler which is what a coach should have. So much so he gave me and my coach the what for at the seeding meeting and I totally understood.

I will say this. In the offseason Ethan has constantly contacted me and recommend his wrestlers to go do offseason training. His youth club has about 40 in it this year and last year I believe around the same. He had a little beginner tournament last year for all FWCS schools and local clubs and it went well.

Coaching at North Side, Wayne, and Northrop are very tough to get the numbers and keep them and it will need to be from the ground up. We came close to getting middle school wrestling going this year but logistically it just doesn't seem to work. I don't think we have a wrestler shortage all the time we have a huge coaching shortage. Not just at the high school level but also in at the youth and middle school level. Look at what Blackhawk middle school ran into this year. Snider has an established culture that is back on the rise with a very good full coaching staff and support from the top down.

I think a possible answer can be recruiting local college grads from Manchester, Indiana Tech, Wabash, and Trine to come back and be willing to sacrifice their time to invest in the youth and middle school. A single High School coach can't do it by themselves. I personally have 2 coaches on my staff that are young and graduated from Indiana Tech. Lost a great one last year to a job change.  It's awesome to see them out on the mat wrestling the kids and doing what they love. Let's bring those graduated college wrestlers into our rooms and mentor them for a year or 2 and get them involved in the youth and middle school side of things.

I know I am not saying anything you don't know General. Just wanted to give a shout out to Ethan because coaching can be a thankless job especially in some of the schools that just aren't quite there yet. Ethan is passionate about his wrestler and that I totally understand. I am pretty upset at my 138 pounders seed but we lost a close match at the end that cost us. Tis wrestling.

wrestler A is 6-1 against the sectional field at the weight class.
wrestler B is 3-0 against the field with a win over wrestler A.
Wrestler A is the one seed for having most wins against the sectional field.
"wrestler with the most WINS against opponents in the bracket gets the one seed. It does not matter if Wrester A lost to wrestler B in the bracket as long as wrestler A has the most wins in the bracket. Wrestler A gets the seed."

Dorian Keys wrestled for me at Chapel Hill in 8th grade and was a monster. Also wrestled for me some as a Freshmen at BD. He did develop and flourish in a new environment at Brownsburg. I really enjoyed my time coaching Dorian.

42-18 through my first 60 in 2.5 seasons.  15 duals left this year hoping to hit the big 50.

Let the race to 100 begin!

Definitely in agreement on that last point.

I just dispute the idea that teams are chosen based on individual tournaments, which use completely different scoring.

Even the concern about "program" points not getting earned isn't true. This is exactly why we give points to seniors. They don't earn as many points as underclassmen, but we've investigated exactly how well a good team from each of the 4 school sizes will replace a lost guy of each advancement level and give points accordingly.

Back to the original topic, I believe Tell City placing 3rd at the Mater Dei Holiday Classic, behind Union County and Mater Dei, is an impressive accomplishment, considering the size of our school to many others on the list. We are looking forward to 1A Team State this weekend!

    All,

I want to share a story about the kind of people we have in this sport.  Last Saturday Greenfield had a young lady injured in a match at New Palestine High School.  It was a head and neck injury that required her to be transported to the hospital via ambulance.  She and her parents had never been through something like this before and were justifiably shaken.

On Tuesday of this week I was called down to the athletic office.  We had received a package.  It was a box of flowers addressed to the young lady who was injured.  They were sent from the Columbia City Wrestling Program.  I know it's a little thing and some people may not understand, but it touched me and my program.

People think wrestling is about working hard, sweating, bleeding, beating on people, etc..., but it's not.  It's above LOVING each other.  I wan't to thank Columbia City for giving my program an example of how people are supposed to love each other.

    Thank you!

Decisive victory by a very tough Rochester squad in the final dual over a very solid Cathedral team (45-22).  Very good wrestling from teams from all around the state (Avon, Columbus East, EMD, Tell City, Westfield, Ev North, North Posey, Edgewood, Bloomington S, Laf Jeff, TH North, Ev Mem and Owen Valley).  The event was VERY well run and know they are looking to grow it in the years to come!

With 2 matches left IN has enough of a lead to top IL and bringing home a 3rd place finish.  Way to make the adjustment from the first encounter in the pool stage.  From prior scores you could  easily make the argument the squad would have had a close meet with 2nd place Iowa if their was a true second.

Best finish in Schoolboy Freestyle history for IN too. Nice showing this weekend boys.

Congratulations to the 2022 IHSWCA Academic Challenge place winners. This is our second year for the program. This year's top three were:

    1st) DeKalb High School--Team GPA 3.569

    2nd) Roncalli High School  3.539

    3rd) Carmel High School    3.501

These Sectional champion teams distinguished themselves in the classroom as well as on the mat. The link at the bottom is the article that ran in the local paper about DeKalb's team.  The IHSWCA is very proud of all of these teams. They were all athletically successful while also placing emphasis on the student aspect of student/athlete. This year all Sectional champs with a team GPA of 3.25 or higher who were not in the top three will receive a digital Honorable Mention certificate.
