Butt Drag reacted to navy80 in Crown Point, Brownsburg, Center Grove
I'd like to know what the schools, coaches, wrestlers have done to change the culture into a dynasty culture? What are practices like? What are the coaches like? What's the secret sauce?
I'll go on a limb and say Indiana has never had such three dominant teams.

This is the terps second dual win since joining the conference. So good for them. PU needs to get back on the recruiting trail.

Maybe not the most huge upset due to the winner, but 2015 120 Tyler Ferguson from Reitz over defending state champ at 106 Jeremiah Reitz from Griffith 17-13.
So, yes, that reads Ferguson from Reitz over Reitz from Griffith. It takes what it takes.

Davison was #2 that year behind Blake Rypel (State #1 and National #2). That was the headline match of that weight class, but many were upset because they ended up in the same half bracket and would’ve been a semifinal match and not a finals match had Davison won.

In 1990 my wrestler Kirby Kirkpatrick had placed fourth in the Semi-State and wrestled Jeff Jorge of Munster. Jorge was undefeated and was being recruited to wrestle at IU (which he did). Kirby was a HUGE underdog, but Kirby beat him by a decision 4-3.

From 2001:
Curt Schleibaum, Seymour def. Rickie Elkins, Portage, won by fall, 3:19.
I believe Elkins was up a couple of points before getting put on his back in the pinning sequence. Elkins was Nationally ranked and a returning runner-up from the previous season... One week later, at team state, he beat the State Champ Allen Weinzapfel 8-3
I always put him in the discussion for the annual "Best to never win state" topic

Sinkovicks getting pinned like that might be the one that will always stick out in my mind.

Kudos to our Mishawaka Trainer Hannah Hess who traveled to EC to support the Cavemen wrestlers and spent all day as a volunteer working the event and helping everyone's wrestlers. Saw her at the end of the day and she looked more exhausted than our boys that competed. Great job Hannah...way to represent.

141 & 133 are deep every year, probably the deepest weights every year. that’s why.
There are rarely easy matches in the Big Ten. On top of that, 15-8 in the Big Ten with Lee, Lee, Eireman, Bergland (AA), Micic, Rivera, Filius, (probably 20 All-Americans right there), and figure in you can see those guys 3-4 times every year at duals, Cliff Keen, Big Tens, and NCAA’s. That is unbelievably brutal.
cripes, there are no slump-busters…

Disappointing day for Purdue. Another year without an All-American for Ersland. Has Ersland ever had an AA at Purdue? He puts some competitive dual teams up, but, just can't break through the ceiling. He's recruited some good talent, but where's that Ipwa tourney magic that he experienced under Gable? Hope he finds that someday.

Purdue coaches blew it with Penola in that last match. He had no issue getting away on the bottom in the first period, but they had him go neutral in the 3rd? Don't agree with that.

It's moving day!
A few notes from last night's session 2 and this morning's action....
- Brock Hudkins MFF this morning after injuring his knee. Tough tourney for Brock
- Drew Hildebrandt won his first consolation match and then fell 8-4 to Brody Teske this morning and has been eliminated
- Nick Lee got a 9-2 win over Quinn Kinner of Rider. He get a 2nd period Fall over Grant Willits of Oregon State to advance to the Semifinals tonight against Real Woods. Lee opened the season with a 11-4 dec over Willits
- Chad Red had some tough luck dropping his match last night to Sebastian Rivera. He'll face Ian Parker of Iowa State shortly
- Stevan Micic won 7-4 over OK State's true freshman Carter Young last night.
- Donnell Washington lost a 6-1 dec to Travis Stefanik of Princeton and is eliminated. Hopefully he'll be able to come back healthy next year.
- Thomas Penola dropped a 3-1 dec to Jacob Warner of Iowa. He'll face Tanner Sloan of South Dakota State this morning
- Andrew Davison lost 5-0 to Tanner Sloan and was eliminated
- Lucas Davison earned a 9-2 dec win over Matt Stencel of Central Michigan and his reward is a date with Gable Steveson in this mornings QF
- Mason Parris beat Nathan Traxler of VA Tech 7-3 and faces 2 seed Cohlton Schultz this morning, which could be a really good match!

Red in a barnburner now. Got headlocked and thrown to his back. Was in trouble but was able to roll through and get a reversal. Only gave up 2 back points. Lucky it wasn't 4, IMO. 5-5 going into the 3rd. Chad does have over 2 minutes of riding time.

Kudos, he shows up with the lights.
He could have folded when he got caught in the headlock. Great match, but most impressive was his top game.
Simon from Central Michigan is a bull, but Red put a man's ride on top, working the whole time with some great mat returns, tough riding & scrambling.
Man's Ride!
